"The objective for both teams is to find the VIP before the opposing team. Centcom has intel on his last 16 known locations. Once you find him, help him make his way to the extraction point before the enemy can track him down and kill him. Be careful not to extract your CSAR team before the VIP. Either team can locate the VIP. Whichever team is successfull is considered the CSAR team" More details: http://www.ghostrecon.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=47057&st=0 Make sure to read the responses he got for hes idea.. This is what I meant about a WOW feeling, I got one while reading about it (good marketing for any game) and I really got a WOW feeling while playing it.. The game mode is something real new, and something real exciting.. there's a vip mode in CS, but that doesent even get close to this vip mode. Ideas like these that will surely give people the WOW fealing im talking about is bound to be a hit, something new and fresh --- XLive Gamertag: Mysticaly PC Gamernick: Mysticaly, See you around |

A full compliment of new maps; updated graphics and weapons but don't go overboard and drive system requirements so high only the wealthy can play. Watch glitch issues and and include an anticheat system.
Why are we doing this? Feels good but is it going anywhere? With GRAW seemingly dying on the vine I actually considered trying to find some gameplay in the old GR. Roll |

My list. Now get to work UBI if you want my dollar!
Technical: A game engine that rendered all enemies when the map was loaded – and not when a script event occurred (al la RavenShield). So there are no nasty surprises. A game engine that did not have enemies outside the draw distance i.e. enemies that could shoot you but you could not seen/shoot them. An architecture that allows a client to download and implement a custom map from a server without having to restart or re-bundle anything on the client (like Tribes Vengeance (Unreal Engine) does) Total anti-cheat is a dream – but Punk Buster at least would be nice. Proper SADs (i.e. does not require the entire game to be installed on the server) Proper Server Admin tools - See any game other than GRAW/GRAW2. Built-in Admin kit restrictions – See any game other than GRAW/GRAW2. Built-in admin kick/ban facility A decent built-in MP game browser – I’m surprised that in this day and age I have to include this, but it is required. A progress indicator showing how much of the current mission has been loaded. A small point, but one which will avoid irritation. Game: 3 Squads and the ability to choose who goes in which squad from a large pool of pre-defined members. Ability for user to switch between players in any squad. Large, varied maps with the ability to achieve objectives in any order. Binoculars! No video/news-feeds or other jibber-jabber. Mission briefings should be enough. Coop mode that works! Night/day missions. Weather effects. |

Here's a little more in no particular order of importance...
SP players pay the same amount of money than MP players... Don't kick them to the Curve. If more maps, patches, etc, will be available for MP after launching game, make them available and playable for SP players as well. Location, Location, Location... I have nothing against Mexico or Mexicans but dang it, when you have play one map in Mexico, no matter how you twist it around, you are still in Mexico... send me somewhere else... make it rain, make it dark, make it snow... keep surprising me instead of just going with the flow. Multiple enemy AI spawns for multiple Replayability... Do Not worry so much about the money you will loose if you do this, we will still buy the next game... I guarantee you that!!! Huge and Open Map Paths... make your devs play FAR CRY and you will understand what I am talking about... No matter what path I choose to take to get to the assignment, I will encounter enemy AI to fight with so don't make me use the same linear path to trigger the spawns. Same abilities as the Enemy AI... If he can snipe me or my teammates from the rooftop of a building, I want to be able to get inside and climb to that rooftop as well, do not be so lazy and go for the easy money, earn it and give me more to be WOW with... Not trying to insult you, I am just not that good of a Politician so I say what I feel Campaign Modes should work according to steps... EASY: Enemy AI should be easy pickins, not so alert and there shouldn't be that many per spawns NORMAL: Enemy AI should be a regular trained soldier and fight as such... a few more soldiers per spawn HARD: Enemy AI should be a veteran soldier of the armed forces with training but more maturity and understanding of fighting stance, cover posisition and firing accuracy... a few more soldiers per spawn than Normal. HARDCORE: Enemy AI should be the Elite of their armed forces, better stance, better cover, better fighting and accuracy... tons and tons of soldiers per spawn. Weapons and Uniforms should not be even remotely close to the ones used by the Ghost, ammo is ok so we can pick it up but that is the end of the similarities. If a teammate is dead, he is no longer going to appear on the next map, if injured, make it work according to the extent of his injury. I hate earning Medals of better weapons as I go along, if you going to give me weapons, don't be cheesy and give it to me until the last map... I HATE THAT WITH A PASION!!! Others have said this but I think it is a good idea to repeat it so you understand that it should be a Must... Give us RECON, DEFEND, ASSAULT missions, just like in GR1 Also, Don't make me waste $1,000.00 on hardware to be able to play the game at 800x600 because you are to lazy to streamline the game for multiple PC Specs. HOld BETA testing for both the SP & MP sides of the the game so all the little annoying quirks don't end up being the deal breakers on whether people will want to buy the game or pirate it. Beta test it one more time just for good measure. I'm going to get off on a rant here (sorry, it wouldn't be my character if I didn't)... Have 2 different price points for SP & MP... if you later on make more maps, sell them to the SP guys to make up for your loss and/or as Expansion packs... you'll get your money back and you will avoid Piracy. Got to keep on working, Peace... I'm out! P.S: Colin, you may want to consider changeing your Heading to something like this... "How do you want your Next Game to be." It would get you more responses I think. ---------------- 0 ----------------- 0------------- What does it take to get a simeple answer from UBI about the PC? GRAW I & II, Vegas 1 & 2 were throwned to the Lion's den and now FC2 is going to suffer the same fate? How Proud are you UBI? |

Minimum specs should accurately reflect the minimum requirements to run the game smoothly and reliably on systems with 2 year old hardware and should be included in the testing. MP should be tested over a standard internet connection. Not across a 100M or 1G office network. |

Snipe re wording.
I really wanted it stay as in in the past, ie the year thing. I did not want the last 3 years get in the way of good posting, which I dont think it has. I want us to imagine that GR1 and its add ons are just in the back ground still but a replacment may be in the works, ie just before GR2 was announced. I think there are some people in the Ubisoft side that wish they could go back 3 years, on the pc side any way. If one wants learn from a previous mistake then I will help if I can and Im sure you will too. You still want the heading changed? |

2004... Hmmm.
Please Ubisoft can you make a 3000 3.5" floppy disk version? I don't have an optical drive. (or is that more like 1994? Mr 2Snipe has eloquently described the art of a good game sequel - keep the good bits, slicken up the not-so-good bits. i.e. Don't remove the kit selection and spawn options and buttons from so-called OGR mode!!! |

I would actually love to hunt some talibans, OK no racist thing behind that statement, but it would be great to have Mitchell or whoever going to Afganistan in a "covert operation", into the deep dark caves, etc...
Possibly, the "team" could go hunting Terrorist cells or whatever all over the world, why only limit it to one location/country ? Make something like Want2Snipe suggested, where you have objectives all over the world. Anti Terrorism and Terrorism where a big concern back in 2004, I especially remember all the focus on the TV about it, and the hunt for both saddam and osama.. If we cant get Osama in the real world, lets off hem in a game Edit: i'm really to tired to post anything now, so excuse me if my post made no sense.. --- XLive Gamertag: Mysticaly PC Gamernick: Mysticaly, See you around |

(steps out of time machine, nekid and steaming into 2004 when the promise of a future Ghost Recon Game seemed a distant, beautiful reality)
Take OGR, and upgrade the graphics. update the weapons to mirror todays weapons (today being Feb 9th 2004 and I'm typing on my AMD2800XPM hopping around planetside somewhere. keep the maps, the maps were so perfect (yes even swamp) that, even though I've played them like a thousand times, no match was ever alike, and for some weird reason (i have no idea why this following statement is true) i never got bored of them. Even that silly little Day Docks map that was the size of a postage stamp. A 16 player match on that was a nightmare that you could WALK on the flak flying round, and I loved it. ok, and since its 2004, i need to make reference to this REALLY cool version of the Mustang coming out. They took EVERYTHING that was great about the original and brought it up to todays world and the thing looks great, drives great (mine anyway) and love the look of it. IM SO GLAD THEY DIDN'T TRY TO REINVENT IT. yeah I use hammers to swat flies too. I'm off to see spiderman two! I hear it's rockin with the ocktin. kp |

Make it backwards compatable, so that all the old maps still function.
You can join all the old servers. But you have new higher res textures as an option and new maps and new guns. |
||||
|
My reply would second Colins more or less.
I liked Baffs idea about backwards compatablity I'd like to see MORE player slots for a coop game "out of the box" (although it has been modded by AS to do that) And more "mod tools" for the modders (Im not a modder,so dont have any idea what those would be) |

Being a strict coop player I am a bit biased about what would make a proper sequel to GR.

PROPHECY:
In the future...(since this is 2004) many of the great points brought up in prior responses to "The Question" can and will be address by modders from many Clans, Teams and by creative GR loving Individuals. They will develop new skins, weapons, vehicle models, sounds and game styles to carry the life of GR way past what the original developers have designed it to be. But I can also sense that this will come with much frustration through lack of tools within IGOR and no access to the SDK. If they had the SDK, they would probably change some simple things like: - Kit Selection: Let me type in a kit number, not scroll forever to find the kit. Or choose from a pool for the primary and secondary instead of having them bound together. - Nades: All soldiers should always have nades, binos and a sidearm available outside of the normal two soldier class weapons. - Larger Coop Teams: Not limiting it to 9, let it get to 36 if the bandwidth is there. (Side Note Prophecy: Someone will invent a GRX Coop limited to 4 soldiers... They will piss off an entire community of players) - AI Robotrons: More complex devious AI to challenge FUTURE HOPE: I play both COOP with Alpha Squad and have played a good deal of TVT on many quality No Cheat servers like BADS, SIR (Goats), AEG and others since GR2/3 never panned out. Back in 2004 if you had asked most any COOP, SP, MP or TVT player that was passionately into GR and wanting to see it get better and better for the entire community so we would still be attracted to the game in 2008 and still play 2+ hours a day (sometimes 16)and buy whatever mod pack was available that quarter and still fill forums with posts and spend an hour daily catching up with forum posts and STILL GET INTO THE GAME SO MUCH - THAT WHEN ARE LEANING INTO THE MONITOR DURING A CRITICAL POINT IN THE GAME AND WE GET SUDDENLY SHOT, WE JUMP OUT OF OUR SEAT AND OUR FAMILIES LAUGH AT US FOR BEING "THAT INTO THE GAME! AND A GOOF" what they would like to see in "GR2?" Most would have said: - Up to Date Graphics Modders would have said: - More control with an SDK But *ALL* would have said: - Keep the game playability the same - Keep the funability in the game - Make it playable on at least a 1 year old model PC "I don't want to have to spend another 1K to play." - Make the game keep going even if Snitchell dies. lol Good enough place to start. Alpha Squad / DasLimpet The way the game was ment to be played... |

Probably the best post of this thread in my opinion. (DasLimpet)

Hard to say what I would add after the posts by my clan mates Buehg and DasLimpet.
As a scripter I was increasingly frustrated by the complicated and somewhat time consuming scripting used for IGOR. Huge amounts of time were used for very simple things like extraction, placing demo charges and some others I wont go into detail about as I don't want to type for the next few hours trying to mention everything. As with Limpet and many others who participated in Alpha Squad tourneys the pure adrenaline rush that went through me when trying to sneak up on a possition was lost in the AW series. The only other thing I could add would be larger maps. With the somtimes 18 we would have on the Alpha server playing at once room to move became rather tight. But a short wish list : Larger maps Better graphics Easier use for simple scripting tasks Better tango AI ie no more everyone on the map runs to a possition that a GL was launched from. A short please don't list : No jumping, it ruined the BF series for me. No player limits for Co-op No one person dies and the mission ends And please please please let me choose the loadout I want and not what the developer thinks I should carry in any soldier class. I was referred to this thread from another forum and registered just for this post. I'd like to think the original question is more than just hot air. Now would be a good time to prove it.
The short version: Transplant the GR1 gameplay into this new (2004) Far Cry engine. A Far Cry realism mod with the addition of SP squad-based gameplay and mission-oriented co-op. The longer version: You can't swing a dead cat without smacking into a new first person shooter. But GR isn't just a shooter. It's a tac-sim. This goes to weapons, movement and, most importantly, maps and missions. Realistic weapons (ballistics, accessories), realistic movement (no run-and-gun). This isn't necessarily rocket science. You can do a lot by merely tweaking the standard FPS setup. The key issue is maps and missions. Less linear than Far Cry and even GR1. Multiple insertion points and multiple objectives is NOT enough. The map is just a battleground. It should be designed like a, map. Not like an obstacle course for the player. The objectives and enemies should be located realistically, not conveniently one after another as the player progresses. Oh, and the GR1 MP/co-op stuff (server options, lobby e.c.t.) is fantastic. This is not the place to cut the fat. Most important of all: The developers and producers MUST be 100% aware that they are making a tactical shooter. Everyone on the team must be on the same page from the word go or you shouldn't even try. Never mind the details, they can always be worked out and tweaked. The key is the mindset of the team. They have to be crystal clear on what they're trying to do. On the overall objective. And "making a first person shooter" isn't it. Respectfully krise madsen PS: This new "Future Warrior" stuff? Sure, why not. It fits a Tom Clancy title. But it has to be implemented properly, not just as window dressing. |

My favourite Ghost Recon game was Ghost Recon Desert Siege. Now if UBI could expand on that game with better graphics(DX10/9),new maps and game modes and I think it would be a great start.
The biggest annoyance of the current game for me is the multiplay maps amd its objectives. They are too small with too many objectives. I feel like im going around and around in circles going from one objective to another, it feels alot like a quake arena fight sometimes and gets boring fast. So make the maps more linear but at the same time larger and more interesting in how to get to the objectives. An example would be a middle eastern city map. Your task is to secure a building hideout at one end of the the city. But to get there you have to battle it out with militants in every street before reaching that building. There are only certain city streets that can be used to get to the hideout. This would encourage teamplay more as its almost non-existant in the current game everyone seems to run around like headless chooks. Once the troops get to the hideout and destroy it you feel a certain level of achievement. In the current ghost recon there is no real sense of achievement or effort. Anyway just a few thoughts |

Honestly if this was 2004 i wouldn't change anything, i loved this then and i still do. i still play it, when i can find the ppl to play.
