Hi everyone... i'm a newby here, and it looks like i'll be here to stay. I got graw2 given to me by a friend because for christmas i have asked for graw1 and rainbow six vegas. So, I installed the game and it all went well. At the end it told me about what i might need to improve to get better performance and quality, that was only my cpu power which is clocked at 1492mhz, which is a bit rubbish, but i also have a gig of ram and a geforce 7800 video card. Anyway it all loads up okay, then as soon as the game displays, the picture is not right. THere are black areas in the screen, some objects don't show up in the game and it hardly moves when i walk or shoot the gun. For example there is like a 3 secs time delay. Then all of a sudden, the display disappears and all im left with is the sky and a few clouds with a pure white ground and nothing moves, i.e the computer has frozen. But, i can still hear the sound of me walking when i press 'W' and when i shoot as i press the mouse. There is no time delay and it all sounds pretty perfect. Could anyone help me out plz, i have talked to a lot of people who don't specify in this game, so their ideas are guesses.

Rainbow six, however seems to work fine, a little bit of lag outside the city but not too bad like graw. Yes, i know, i spoilt my own christmas present.

p.s i cant sure be the cpu, because I have quake4 and that requires a minimum of 2.00ghz pc pentium 4. I have an AMD Sempron 2200+ @ 1.5ghz and it works with fantastic frames.

Hard to help w/o all of the pc specs but, for starters:

Update your video & sound card drivers... PLEASE!, don't tell us that you have the latest ones, give us the version you have at least.

1GB of Ram with GRAW is sure to give you a heart attack and even though GRAW 2 is optimized, the std is now 2GB's.

What mouse are you using?

Is there anything that needs to be updated here, and where could i receive he downloads for the drivers. Also, i suppose 2gis of RAM is a definite?? even for my low cpu power. Thanks for your support, best wishes Mark

p.s: mouse is a logitech 'pilot wheel mouse' uses a ball rather than a laser.

IIRC there is a newer driver version for the 7 & 8 Nvidia series cards and there's definately a newer for the sound card or, you have got to get out, get a second job and buy yourself something more recent

I had asked for help with the same issue. The issue first appeared when I bought GRAW. I would have to reinstall my video driver every time the problem occured which was about 2-3 times a week. The same issue was carried over to GRAW2 and persisted until I upgraded my video card.

My system specs while having issues:

256MB NVIDIA GeForce 6800
1GB DDR2 RAM
250GB SATA HD (x2)
SoundBlaster Live! 24bit
350Watt PSU

256MB ATI Radeon X1950 PRO
1GB DDR2 RAM

I also later updated my soundcard to a Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer. But updating my video card immediately fixed the problem being discussed. That video card was something like $169 +tax. I hear now the card to look for that is the same price is the ATI HD3850.

thanks for replying, i have updated my video card driver to the 169.21 driver found on the Nvidia website, supposedly works for all three series or cards: 6,7 and 8. Strangely the driver that came with the video card is newer than the one on the website and i got my card about 5 months ago. can't unfortunately find a driver for the c-media wave device from the link given.

I've taken into consideration your post 'syrfer', but other games seem to be working really well with the 7800gs, so i could really do without changing it. Obviously i havn't got GRAW yet, so i suppose i'll just sit on it to find out how it works once i've installed it. But seeing as your old card was a series lower than mine maybe GRAW was too unstable with it. The 7800gs maybe a bit to old for GRAW2 but still well in date and of a good spec for GRAW. I will be spendiing money on updating memory and most possibly a cpu that fits on my motherboard, but i'll just have to wait and see. Thanks... Mark

The 7800s aren't necessarily better than the 6800s. They're just a different series of cards.

Also, I never had any issues with any other game while using the 6800. The dissappearing map thing was unique to GRAW and GRAW2.

The NVIDIA chips/drivers have also had issues with COD4 where they failed to render certain textures etc. and everything was black. This included 8800s. So as much as I have enjoyed using NVIDIA's cards... I don't think they are without their problems. Same goes for their drivers.
