Loved GR1, bought the whole set, played it and played it again mods’n’all and on occasion still do – really appreciated the whole series, without a doubt one of the best, ever.

Enter GRAW…. What miserable experience. Luckily I did heed the comments I had read… for a long while at least - and bought for under a tenner - but experiencing GRAW was still enough to stop me buying UBI again, maybe for life. No GRAW2 for me. I hate to waste my time even more than the loose change…

But the very worst bit by far was that I could not find ANY medium to vent my frustration to UBI directly and had to subscribe to this forum and entertain the enlightened with my rant on what they already knew - how sad, bad and enough to make you plain damn MAD.

UBI take note; Yes, I was seriously disappointed, this miserable game and limited feedback options did not meet my expectations… and I am not inclined to forget it or withhold my opinion.

Totally agree with the previous comments, absolutely would love to see a “true to the original” GR2 (maybe with weapons pick up), won’t hold my breath.

Hmm, almost feel better now.

Hey Colin, I'm glad to see you pushing out topics like this. But I think it might just be too late for the community here. Most of the hardcore GR players have just given up on the franchise. They, like me, come here rarely now, if at all.

I'd love to see a revival of the GR1 game play and style. But I don't UBISoft has any interest in providing that. They follow the lowest common denominator with regard to what sells. And they take as few risks as possible.

I believe, to UBISoft, a "niche" market means "no money in it" so they aren't interested.

It's sad, really. They have some excellent IP that they have really squandered their potential. And most of us have finally been disillusioned about what UBISoft will do next.

Basically, we've given them several chances to "get it right". And they keep missing the target. Too often by quite a wide margin.

I, for one, will just wait to see what they do next. But I have no illusions and no hope that they will produce something that I will like in the GR/R6/SC worlds.

Even this board seems to be dying due to lack of interest not just in GR, etc. but also due to lack of hope for anything better by those who used to hang out here (myself included).

Still, you keep poking away at it. I hope you get good results.

Cheers mate.

Yes please.
It's about time to bring the binoculars back out of mothballs and way past time to retire Mitchell.

A lot of people have been saying this for a LONG
TIME and Ubisoft are NOT LISTENING .

I like others would like to belive in false hope
but after seeing how much the RUINED GRAW1,GRAW2
R6 Lockdown and Vegas 1 on the PC a lot have
totaly given up on Ubi and their 'so called
tatical gaming' which has become the low skilled
gamers squad fps/3rd person shooter series.

Its a shame that Ubi and other companys
dont release multiple series
eg R6 and GR for the real hardcore games
that love coop , then two NEW series for the
console and low skill gamers .

A way that software companys can return ALL
the game series to its roots (game play before
graphics) is easy look at the first game in the
series and LISTEN to community/customer feedback

Also what has RUINED A LOT OF GAME SERIES
is now PC only FPS games been ported over
to console (In my view consoles should
NEVER have been allowed to have FPS games
using a joypad as the main control method
which has ruined game play today) then
once on the console game play is REDUCED
and RUINED , COLOURS ARE THEN LIMITED
and over all fun is reduced then since
its a console and game devs refuse to release
a dedicated server , number of players
in Multiplayer is REDUCED and coop
almost disapears on the PC platform .

If Ubi is really honnestly want to fix the
Abomination that GR series has become they
would :

Release a free dedicated server for PC and
console platforms that the game server is
hosted on a PC(Windows/Linux/Mac) without
needing a high end graphics card

Games can LIMIT (setting) the people
joining by Ping (eg BLOCK anyone
with a ping over 150 from joining)

Release a FREE BETA to the public
and dont use the current beta testers
that ARNT doing their proper job
Get each person to sumbit a report
or have the beta client do that
telling the game company if the game
worked okay and what hardware it worked
with .

Increase graphics without using Gloss
Reflections - pretty wanky stuff that
isnt real graphics , Dont increase
the pixel shader requiments .

If possible use OPENGL instead of DirectX
New Opengl standard is going to come out
in 2008 to become BETTER then DX10
on the same hardware and run on 2000/2003/xp
/linux/mac

RE RELEASE GR1 for PROPER FREE THIS TIME
to THE WORLD , NOT limited to USA ONLY
not with ADS . Make it freeware.
(if single player wasnt it in that would be
okay aslong as Multi and Coop was their)

Bring back SPWAN INSTALL MODE that a lot
of older games supported (NFS2SE/Diablo1)
this would reduce piracy , one copy can
be used on mutliple computers
The Spawn edition could be limited to:
LAN ONLY not internet
Multiplayer ONLY
Supports COOP
Doesnt allow hosting
Doesnt have music
Doesnt have gigs of movie intros/clips
Can only join a dedicated server

drop using disc protection methods
People have been pirating games before the
XT (x86) was released its going still today.
Every protection is cracked in the end
and some of the time is effects legit buyers.

You want poeple to buy more games:
* Listen to customers/community feedback
* DONT RELEASE ****
* PROPER BUG TESTING
* BRING BACK GAME PLAY BEFORE BLING
* Work on a title for longer before releasing
incompete programs that never get fixed
by 10 patchs anyway
* Dont be platform favoruties with free
adds . Release free maps/material on
ALL or NOT platform
* Support split screen gaming on PC
* Support Linux platform
* Support OPENGL
(no need to downgrade to vista , easy
to write a linux and mac port)

To be perfectly honest I have little or no interest in the Ghost Recon franchise or the Rainbow Six franchise or indeed anything with "Tom Clancy" on the front these days.

I couldn't give a tinkers cuss what they do with the next "Ghost Recon" game because I know whatever we get is going to be a poor relative of the console version. Either it will be a rushed tie-in or they'll double up on development and give both platforms essentially the same game.

I'd rather have a tac shooter made by a developer who wasn't stuck with a load of a shoddy script, models and IP from a console game designed for the Halo demographic.

One designed from the ground up for PC.

I can't really see how a game like that would tie into any of the "Clancy" franchises now because all of those properties are pretty much the stuff of Vin Diesel movies directed by Michael Bay now Googly

So. Yeah. I'd support the OP's suggestion if I thought there was any chance of it coming to pass.

As things stand I want a new game.

Call it "Masters of Chaos" of something and come up with a plot that doesn't involve "suitcase nukes" or "bioweapons".

And please pick a developer who knows something about making good online games.

So I haven't even tried GRAW 2.
I just went back to good ole Ghost Recon.

I fully agree with you on the new GRAW games. I bought the GRAW when it first came out and have not played it since. I still have and play the Original GR and Mods (which I paid way too much money when they came out), but they were worth it. I am in the Army and loved to real weapons and tactics of the original and only hoped with new computer technology, the graphics and AI where going to be better. But instead, the game play suffered and became more scifi. I might as well play HALO 3 with my son. I only hope that you come out with a new version that has the old feel to the game you all started off with so well.

Cheers,

Also,I wanted UBI to know that they MISSED getting any of my money with AW1 and AW2 ( and NO I don't play "cracked" games,I buy what I play) ,when they dropped the features that made GR such an enjoyable and great game (see "poll" and other threads for explainations) and limiting coop to 4 players.I'm still wondering WHO came up with THAT not so bright idea. Bottom line UBI,you treat the coop community like "redheaded step children" and you dont sell as many games as you could have,IF a good coop mode is included in your productions.

New to these forums here but Played with the "Grumpy Old Farts" back in the day with the original GR. I too would like to see the original GR game modle/mechanics back but fear it will not the more I read on.

UBI "I think" is focusing much more on the PHEW PHEW 1337 shooter type games as this is what the younger community would like to see, just my opinion. A stratigic tactical game with the level of immersion we are looking for in a coop type modle I fear may not bring the profit that UBI is looking for. Profit that is over the amount of man hours spent on the AI's alone.

The younger community is drawn more to Console games it seems like then to PC games, just my impression so I fear that the days of the great GR game modle/mechanics are gone. But I hope to be wrong here.

I have to agree with the negative comments about the new and "improved" Ghost Recon - Advanced Warfighter. I was very disappointed after playing a few missions. I tried to download and play the GRAW2 demo to see if common sense soaked into the GRAW designers, but it crashed my system. This seems to be the end of the Ghost Recon series for me.

I'll ramble a little more. The sepia hue was obnoxious and not even close to realistic. The brightness balance of many missions was off enough that I had to continually switch between night vision and normal vision in situations that should not need it. This was very tedious. The brightness setting control seemed not to matter.

The original had a great save ability. GRAW has no save ability. This made the game even more tedious. I think the designers may not have wanted users to save games as this would make the game too easy and make the missions too short and boring. Well, this is probably true but instead they are both boring and tedious.

The enemy has perfect aim when they are moving. They can see me in dark corners and at night where not even my night vision helps me. They can see me through trees, bushes and through raging fire and smoke. They can accurately hit me at distances my sniper rifle has trouble seeing. With one silenced shot they know exactly where I am.

My team gets stuck in rubble piles and behind buildings where I have to go find them and lead them by tiny steps into the open. Many times they can't be moved so I have to leave them behind. The AI mostly sucks.

DirectX seems to have a problem with mouse and keyboard delay that I haven't seen in OpenGL apps. In GRAW (and in other DirectX games) I get at least a quarter second delay from the time I move the mouse till I see movement on the screen. I've started to look at all DirectX apps with a wary eye. My system is nowhere near a high-end graphics machine but it does OK on most games where I can reduce the resolution and other performance settings a little.

The one improvement from the original to the GRAW series was in the use of textures, the blending of one texture into another is much more pleasing then the hard edge technique of the original, but that's about the only thing I can think of that's better.

The mission areas have been reduced in size from the original too. I got so tired of hearing: "Mitchell you are leaving the mission area", ...that I left the mission area.

I wonder if game designers listen to comments like these or just rationalize them away as a disgruntled nerd that will never be satisfied. Well I was satisfied with the Ghost Recon - Original.

Sorry for the long rant.
