My response to http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2771048463/m/5831025086

A Microsoft representative and I were tackling this issue the other day for over an hour. I was trying to get my friend's new Xbox360, his old one broke and his warranty ran out, to play it but every time we went to Versus it would ask for an update.

After the hour or more of trying to fix this issue, the representative said there weren't any other methods of fixing this problem and that if I ever found a solution to call back and they would put it on record to use when ever they got a similar problem. Well... I did find the solution.

======================
Solution: Step-By-Step
======================
1. Remove any disc from the disc tray.

2. Disconnect from XboxLive (including cables and wireless adapters).

3. On the Dashboard, navigate to System -> Memory -> Hard Drive -> Games -> Splinter Cell-CT and (if you have it) Splinter Cell-CT vs.

4. Press the (Y) button on the selected file, if you press the (A) button and entered the file press the (B) button to go to the previous screen.

5. Press the (A) button to delete.

6. A side bar will pop up and ask you to confirm the deletion, press the (A) button on the "Yes, delete content" option. Do this for both if you have them. (Warning! YES THIS WILL DELETE ALL CHAOS THEORY SAVES, DOWNLOADS, AND PROFILES!)

7. Navigate back to the screen that asks you to select your Hard Drive and press the (Y) button.

8. You will now be in the Device Options that lets you Rename or Format your Hard Drive. Without selecting any option press these buttons in sequence: (X)(X)(LB)(RB)(X)(X).

9. You will get a side bar pop up that asks for comfirmation on a Maintenance on your Hard Drive which all it does is reset your internet cache (this step erases any memory of trying to access versus mode in Chaos Theory).

10. Press the (A) button on the "Yes" option.

11. After it finishes you can navigate back to the main dashboard.

12. Go to http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardscompatibility.htm#disc and follow the step by step directions on "How to burn a DVD or CD" for the Xbox Backwards Compatible update (The file to the download is in the header of the sub-section labeled "Original Xbox Game Support
November 2007 update here.").

12A. When you download it, the file will be in zipped, got to http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm and download the version of winRar that matches the computer type you are using (it is free to use so no worries).

12B. After it downloads, install winRar. Afterwards go to where you downloaded the file from the Xbox site and right click it, and press "Extract Here". You should now see the Default.xex file that you need to burn to the disc.

12C. I highly suggest when burning to the disc that you use the slowest method to get a more accurate result.

13. After it finishes burning, insert the disc you created into the Xbox360 and close the tray.

14. The disc will play, you might be on a black screen for a few seconds. After it finishes it will show a screen saying that it finished installing.

15. Press the "Continue" option. You should now be back at the Main Dashboard.

16. Reconnect your cable/adapter and sign on to XboxLive.

17. Remove the disc you created and re-insert
the Tom Clancey Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory disc into the tray.

18. Navigate to the Versus option and try it out. You will have to recreate your profile (if you had one). Afterwards it may ask for an update (DONT PANIC). Just click ok and it will show you the original Xbox dashboard. If it looks like it froze or messed up, dont worry, it's just a graphical glitch from the manual update we did. After it finishes it will take you back to the game.

19. Enjoy Chaos Theory all over again.

Hope this helps you guys. I did give this information to the representatives over at 1-800-4MY-XBOX so if you need someone to guide you step by step they now have this information and can help you. Any problems or mis-understandings just post here and I will try to help solve the issue.

Enjoy Guys.
