That level has several spots that you can actually slip past the guards using careful timing and slow movement.
I also tried to play PS2 DA on Expert and it was hard...infact I think I got to the same place as you SFisher1993 and then changed my mind and am just working on finishing my normal level one.

Of course you can hear someone sneaking right behind you on snow and ice.
