I have read the post on how to fix it, but it isnt working. I dled it off marketplace and when i try to play versus it wants me to make an account do tutorials and then exam. afterwords it says i need an update and then it fails. I dont know what to do.

There have been many posts regarding this, but few have returned to say whether the various 'fixes' have worked.

One post that I remember says to delete all content except for the game itself (profile, saves, etc.), then go to xbox.com support and find the compatibilty faq.

There should be a link that lets you download an .iso image of the FULL compatibility update. Burn it to a CD and insert it into your Xbox 360, answer the prompts to install it. Then load up the game and see if it will apply the updates locally and let you run versus.

Do you know if there is a download for whatever update splinter cell is trying to give me?

The only d/l would be the compatibility update that actually comes from M$. Splinter Cell, AFAIK, didn't have any updates after the initial one.

One important thing that I remembered was that for some updates/patches you need to be logged out of your Live profile before you launch the game. Only log in when the game/updater asks you to, using it's dialog - not the Guide or Xbox one.

Other than that I'm not sure what else to tell you.
