I played the Xbox 360 version demo of Double Agent and it seemed like an alright mission with what SC fans had always wanted (or at least curious), a daytime mission. Not as great as I imagind it (the lack of hiding in the shadows made the mission hard). Besides, even if Double Agent (Current-Gen, I refuse to call this gen 'Next-Gen' after 3 years) is **** that still doesn't change the fact that they made Pandora Tommorow, which introduced outside jungle levels as well as other exotic (yet appropriate for SC) locales, and it introduced spys vs mercs. As well as making competent ports of Splinter Cell for the PS2 and Gamecube (I loved the Power Plant level as well as the Sticky Bomb).

Who hates Shanghai? It's one of the L&S levels on SC D.A. that SC fans love!

Personally I liked almost all of D.A. and was only disappointed in missions like Iceland (too short) and Ellsworth Prison (none of the interactions that were shown in cutscenes).

The most hated levels by SC purists were the JBA HQ levels, only being able to walk at a slow pace unless you entered restricted areas and it's repetitive nature. I felt like I was in some kind of loop each time I hit the JBA levels.

These daylight missions would have been much better received if they'd have been better designed.

Poor cover placement and bugs in the cover make it impossible to hide. For example the ice wall in the supertanker mission and the pool deck on the cruise ship mission, it's impossible to sneak up on the guys at the wall because they can see you when you're hiding behind the snowmobiles, and the pool deck is a disaster because there is no cover, which Shanghai did on purpose for some stupid reason, and jumping in and out of the water is extremely risky.

It's not the concept of daylight that I hated, it was just the overall poor design and quality that upset me.

I played the pc version so thats one of the reasons, all the bugs Smile

But that aside, when i played the daylight missions it just wasnt as fun as the first 3 games, like the magic was gone. Plus the retarded red light green light and the interface on how to use things. The jba missions was very boring and irratating to go trough too. I only really liked shanghai mission and the beginning missions. And even in shanghai i was faced with more difficulties then enimies and alarms, some places i fell trough the floor in the pc version Smile

im also replaying splinter cell 1-3 again now, awesome games and i hope they go back to that sometime. Because that is what got me hooked on the series. Im all for some new things, but common, you dont put a game like doom 3 on a sunny day on an island in the pacific...

Seems like chaos theory is gonna be the best splinter cell for a long LONG time.

The daylight missions were there for a solid reason. If you follow most of the story lines it only makes sense.

Sam has to hide in the shadows of daylight as well.

Its the gameplay that comes in at first with me. And there the daylight missions in double agent were far from as fun as nighttime missions in the first 3 splinter cell games.

Even pandora tomorrow on its dvd box said EMBRACE THE DARK. That stuff is part of the splinter cell gameplay, hiding in the dark so you can just see your 3 green eyes Smile and then slowly appearing out of it to grab a baddie, then pull him into the dark and interrogate him.

What would thief 3 be like if it was on the daylight? Smile

The glitches/bugs was what frustrated me the most in DA 360..At times I was spotted when I was well hidden behind walls..
This one time on JBA HQ2, the timer had about 3 minutes to go and I was heading back to the bomb assembling room (coming down the stairs that lead back form Enrica's workshop) to meet Enrica, when one of Emile's guys started walking to the retinal scanner.
I stopped and waited a while on the stairs, then went to see where he'd gone. But he'd stayed in one place, constantly getting an error on the scanner and 'sliding' from the door to the scanner..so I run out of the door and get the "Hey, you shouldn't be here" thing, and then he goes back to the same thing..
THEN, Enrica and Jamie rock up on the other side of the door, AND Moss rocks up on the scanner side. But of course no one moves. Moss constantly walks on the spot heading away from the door, the scanner guy stays there getting the error on it, and Enrica and Jamie just stand there on the other side of the door.. Hammer

So I run up to where Moss is and whistle and stuff to get there attention, and they tell me to go away, and then they go back to the same glitchy thing.
By this stage, the timers run out, I've gone and done the lame objectives that I missed like the Training course and Firing Range one, come back and there still at it Smash..

So I run at Moss and the guy and walk into them so they move away from the door, and finally the door opens letting Jamie and Enrica out! Jamie sees me and sits down on the invisible chair, leans back and asks me how I'm going, then leaves and FINALLY Enrica talks to me and, Mission Complete, -20% rating Googly

Wow...

I like it on the supertanker mission where you can grab the guys on the cargo section, break their backs and throw them off the ledge with the rope, and if you climb down there, they're invisible but you can still pick them up, and while Sam is holding their invisible body, he looks like he's about to do some kung fu XD
