Before I start let me just say that I am a big fan of the franchise.
After playing HH thru twice (veteran then "Authentic") I have to say that I am dissappointed. When I played EIB I was very impressed. While not perfect, it was alot better the RTH30 in terms of playability in Authentic mode (the only mode that should be offered IMO) without the "all the enemy are out out kill Baker specifically" difficulty and no "trap me in a box with an enemy tank" moments, plus nice wide-open battlefields (well maybe not really wide open). So I waited a looong time for HH, with the expectation that the trend was for the franchise to get much better with each iteration... Dislikes: * The first "Tank shoot-em-up" was a big "you've got to be kidding" moment. Please go back to the tank as one of your fire teams and/or make a separate "Brothers In Armor" game for tank battles. * Give me a freakin' gunsight to look thru while "dug-in". (and maybe some of the other suggestions people have made around this device). * Have Franky shot by a sniper, hit by an 88 round, or run over by a tank and be done with it already - I don't like having to play Doom3 just so that I can get back to tactical squad combat at some point in the future - leave that other stuff for the cut-scenes. * please, please please spend more time on the AI programming. This is another area where EIB made improvements, and that I expected even more improvement with HH. Having worked with the SDK for the previous games, I have a fairly good grasp of what is involved with programming the AI routines. I am a professional software developer BTw- 12 years now - and I think that more time/resources should be placed on this area of the game. Sure you can suprise and ambush a squad of German soldiers, but they by no means were likely to hang around behind dissintegrating cover, waiting to be killed. I see no advancement over EIB in this regards. * lost the "circle of indecision" while aiming down the gunsight (I'm sure people complained, but there is a loss of authenticity with it gone). * hey Paddock! sorry I got you killed a moment ago making you run in the open with un-suppressed MG crossfire, but its sure nice of you to heal miraculously and join us to take out that 88 up ahead... Likes: * more realistic cover areas with less "random table in the road that can't be destroyed by an 88 for some reason" (though they are still present to be sure). * Nice and long missions. The sense of space in the outdoor missions is improved even over EIB. The objectives made sense and made the sense of being in combat greater. * Three fire teams at once? shweet * Definitely looks good... To sum up: EIB is still the high point of the franchise. You need to go back and play that game a few times to pick up on what was great about it and carry that stuff forward. The "sitting duck" AI is getting long in the tooth and needs to be advanced a great deal - pretty graphics will never be able to make up for shortcomings in the area of AI. I'll keep my hopes up for the future of the franchise. Regards, Otter Bob |

1. My god what were you thinking when you left out the prone. I read a post stating that it was left out because we didnt really need it??? Christ ol mighty...I ask again...what on earth were you thinking.
2. What is that 3rd person doing there. 3. Dig in command is just clumsy and stupid. 4. Shooting is way too easy. Bullets go where ever you want. Dont you know the bullets disperse a bit even if the weapon is bolted to a table. This was well done in the previous games. Now its just like COD in that respect. 5. What happened to all other offline game modes??? 6. Basicly what happened to just about everyting that was said in the game features. Actually your websites still claim there is stuff that just isnt there. Just read the features and think what is in the game and what is not. You'll find you lied to your customers at every turn. 7. Dont even wanna start with the AI. 8. Dont expect to get my money ever again. 9. Well...what did you expect... Sure there is pretty graphics and cinematics but that is simply not enough. Dont ever make a PC game that is optimized for consoles again. Thats just stupid and insults us PC players. ***I don`t think you did enough editing to your thread, like the swearing. Here I`ll remove it for you.*** This message has been edited. Last edited by: Firefight700, |

I enjoyed the game. But not as much as I thought I would.
I think the main problem is that it gets too repetitive. Covering fire -> run around house/obstacle/fence/whatever -> shoot stupid AI. In some instances you are 5-6 US soldiers against 10-20 and even more germans, hard head veterans from the Russian front as well, but they just stay behind cover and shoot at you once in awhile, never do they take the initiative to try and flank you. Or move up on each side of a road, forcing your own team to "dig-in" and defend your position. Also its quite funny how you can kill an enemy who is dug-in because the top of his head are sticking up, but the Germans don't have that feature to rely on. The whole dig-in feature is obsolete and boring to be honest. Sure its nice if you were to use it sometimes, but its almost the only viable option if you don't want your head blown off. So many of the obstacles are in the maps just so you can move up and kill the enemy. You can dig-in and not get shot, but if you crouch behind the cover to use iron sight you get pounded down. I've posted another thread for some ideas on how to emerge the player more into the game world ( http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2751085444/m/6871021496 ) its mostly about gore and decals. In terms of how much they advertised reality. I have a hard time finding it. - Your team gets cast +5 healing and they re-appear after they just got sawed over by a MG42. Yet the poor krautz gets insta killed. No wonder they lost the war. (JOKE! - You cant get your assault team to assault. The overview map should be used to plan ahead. Maybe a simple waypoint system where you can plant a few waypoints for your assault team to flank an enemy while you pin them down together with the MG team. - Your team has unlimited ammo? A simple counter in the bottom of the HUD which gives you how much ammo each team has left, forcing you to do real time planning and tactics. - The RPG team is dumb as snot. Jasper seems to have a hard time grasping that it is actually possible to aim over the non-shootable wall in front of him and hit the sand bags. - The squad leader goes in to a house alone?! and cleans it out Rambo style. As far as I know you went in minimum 2-and-2 for house sweeps. And what is the deal about going after one person. If Franky decides to go AWALL that is not really something you do much about in the middle of an enemy counter-attack on a city. - As many more have pointed out, why is the tank missions even in the game. A tank going in alone against 88's and Panzerschrek - that would surely have gotten the allies one less tank in their arsenal. Yet mr. English goes in and cleans up. Another instance of extremely stupid AI. For some reason the Germans think they can combat it with 98Ks and MP40s eagerly running towards the tank throwing themselves under the tracks. A really nice addition would have been infantry and tank battle together. I have a lot more, but I guess no one will read it anyways My point is that, if you market a game as being extremely realistic and point out in ad vids on IGN time after time how far you have gone to get realism going, you are in for a fan-pounding when your game turns out as a semi clone of COD. I liked the game and i've played it through almost two times now - but what I expected is nothing compared to how the game came out. |

(reposting this in the pc section, accidently posted it in the console section)
So some honest feedback... First of all, what a great game. Thanks UBISOFT!!! + Graphics are good, realistic animations, some odd behaviour however at times, when your squad mates get stuck in objects. + Story is superb. Hats off to the writers. + Easier to play, command and lead. + Very immersive on "authentic". + Last mission's squad command is superb, more of that! (commanding 3 teams or even 4(mortar too!)) Now on the other hands the bad stuff. - Maps are too linear, meaning to restricted, not open enough, for alternative routes. - Tank missions needs to go, do it as in EIB, that you command the tank in those mission along with your squad, but you guide it as a squad leader on the ground. (I think this was your intital thought, judging by the coversation between the tank commander and Baker in the cutscenes) - The single player maps, could have been with full squad as well (except the fire inferno and hospital map then). - No mortar team. ;( - Allow us to command firing team, assault team, and mg team on more missions than just the last one. - Would be nice if Red's squad would appear at times on the maps as well, to make it more of a grand scale conflict like WW2, rather than a squad vs squad all the time. What I am saying, larger encounters. Where did Red go after we crossed the river? He vanished!!! - AI needs to improve, more aggresive and using grenades. - OPEN MAPS, so you can approach a house from more than one side. Check the game: Hidden and Dangerous 2, grand scale maps with AI that patrols the area. Anyways, a great game. Too bad about the tank missions though, they stole alot of fun. Wish I could have done that last segment with the squad instead. |

I think the single player was pretty good. If i could i would have changed it a little.
But i hope the new patch will really fix the online. fix the lagg bring in the carbine, grease gun, Kar98, more gametypes (the AI). new mapes graphix: the landscape looks really good, some of the best i've seen. But when you come to the germans it's worse then CS 1,6. some weapons like the Thompsons looks really good too, but the k43 looks bad. I also hope they would have more objects penetryble, and that you could jump over more fences |

Hey everyone. I have a few suggestions for what to include in the up comming patch.
1. Fix the problem that ati cards have with black friday..............obviously. 2. Make it so Baker's mouth actually moves when he gives orders. 3. The final suggestion that I have is purely based on what happens on my rig, whether or not other people are experiencing the same symptoms I'm not sure but on the mission after black friday, the one called "Hells Highway", I sometimes have a problem with my squad not firing a single shot. Even after I've given them the order to. I realize not every game can be perfect but I honestly fail to see how you could miss such an obvious and serious bug like that in the black friday level for ATI cards. Your game testers must of had something better to do that day. Could you PLEASE give us ATI users some sort of expected release date for this new patch? |
||||
|
This is the importest thing to patch. How can a game released when such a big mistake is in it... |
||||
|
I'm just past Black Friday so I guess there is a lot of game left. From what I have experienced, I get the ideal that the rest of the game will be like the first part. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of good in it, but there are a lot of things that need help. A lot of what I mean has already been said here but there are some things I have not seen. Example: In the video, you can hear the troops walking, you can hear them go through the grass but in the game you can't even heard them walking on wooden stairs or floors. No sound at all. And one more thing....do you get the ideal that the game is leading you to one path??Meaning you don't have any other choice but to do what they want you to do. Many other games will let you decide where you want to die. I see many places that you could circle around the Germans but the game says "No, you much stay on this course." Just some thoughts for the Developers.

Basically, I agree with SeaFireLIV.
Will keep this simple, and in no particular order. What I like:- 1. Graphics. 2. Cinematism (is that a word?! If not, I have now created it :-D ). 3. Destructable cover. 4. BiA is the only series with good squad-based gameplay, which is great. Really like the proper fire teams, too. What I don't like/needs to be there for the sequel:- 1. ONLINE + LAN CO-OP!! This was the biggest disappointment about the game. This gave EiB such great replay value. 2. The fact the missions are so linear. 3. The fact that going in to 3rd person makes it so easy because you can see everywhere. In war, you keep your head down and look around briefly. How it is at the moment means you can see everything all the time. 4. YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO USE IRON SIGHTS WHEN DUG IN. The digging-in is nice, but it makes it easy, as you can see everywhere. But then it makes it near impossible to shoot anyone without the crosshair. 5. As a solution, use a similar iron sight system to MoH Airborne. That was so good, as you could lean and take cover so easily, and whilst using your iron sight. 6. EiB was great because, when aiming, you had no idea where you were shooting, because you basically HAD to use your iron sight. If you didn't use your sights, you tended to miss. Which makes it more intense. Bring that feel back!! 7. Make the AI better. They need to attack you too. 8. Make it longer. This was really short. Actual mission playing time couldn't have been more than a few hours. 9. Just. Sort out the multiplayer. It's just. So. Bad. :-( It's really odd, because this could easily be a great game. It really should be a great game. But it's actually a big disappointment. Which is a shame. Especially as it's been in the making for so long. The biggest things are the 3rd person makes it too easy, but then near impossible to aim, and also the lack of co-op. I really hope GearBox reads these comments from everyone....?? |

also very important, pls gearbox bring it BACK ! |

First of all, let me state that I LOVE the game. But , just as in all love affairs, you know its not a perfect creature you've fallen for. Gearbox puts out a pretty darned amazing game with its squad based shooter. That's why we all loved the two previous titles and why we all looked forward anxiously for HH.
Now, I understand that this is a new engine for Gearbox and that the next game should follow the same pattern and the advances between RTH30 and and EIB, so that gives me hope for the next title. Things they should be looking at have been stated quite a lot here and on the Gearbox forums. I got the feeling that Gearbow was out to satisfy : 1) The Fans of the series 2) the run and gun crowd 3) The fans of games such as first Battalion who love to drive tanks. The problem is that when you try to please everyone, you end up with no one being 100% I mean, I actually cheered at the end of EIB, and thought What a Game! Personally, I'd have preferred to be commanding the tank again rather than have the commander go through all the fuss of asking me if I could give him a hand getting down the street, only for me to disappear. And why does the bazooka team disappear? I mean yeah, I can understand that maybe it would just make it too easy, dut at the end of the game, the grand finale, man I was hoping for an epic battle where I had command of the bazooka team the machine gun team, the base of fire team and a tank. Verses a very tough determined enemy, who had grenades and panzerfausts and who were out to flank my teams and I honestly thought that was what it was leading up to. Anyway, just some thoughts. By the way, funny place to end it as the Dutch Campagne had another part to it known as 'The Island' which should be covered as it was an important one in the history of the 101st |

I HAVE FINISHED THE GAME AND I THINK IT'S ONE OF THE BEST AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW... YEAH IT DOESN'T HAVE CRYSIS WARHEAD'S GRAPHICS BUT THE GAMEPLAY IS AWESOME... ANOTHER GREAT THING IS THE HISTORY, VIDEOS AND HOW IT ALL CONNECTS WITH PREVIOUS BIA TITLES (IF YOU HAVE PLAYED ROAD TO HILL 30 AND EARNED IN BLOOD THIS GAME IS MUCH MORE ATTRACTIVE)
I DON'T AGREE WITH THOSE WHO INSULT THIS GAME... FOR ME IT HAS BEEN A GREAT EXPERIENCE.. EVEN EMOTIONAL I MUST SAY.. FOR PERSONAL REASONS. THANK YOU UBISOFT, AND EVERYONE WHO DEVELOPED, THOUGHT AND DESIGNED THIS AMAZING GAME! I'LL WAIT TO SEE BASTONGE AND THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE NOW =) (LEGGET SAYS "HOW CAN YOU HANDLE SNOW OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, I DON'T REMEMBER THE EXACT WORDS) ANYWAY I'M GOING TO DO EVERY MISSION IN AUTHENTIC MODE NOW. ONCE AGAIN.. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS KIND OF FILM-GAME! |
||||
|
First, I don't think anyone is insulting the game. Least of all me. But there are things that are wrong and should be looked at. In fact, I think gearbox should, the next game, pass out copies to some of you guys for your judgement BEFORE it goes on the market. Sometimes people in "high places" forget the ones that actually use the product. This would save a lot fo grief in the future and I'm sure they would get a lot of good ideals. Now, I guess I'm through with the game on the Casual level because I got a "Congratulations!!! you have be bumped to The Authentic Level." Why would they pass me by the Veteran Level??? Anyway, I think the game is very good but not what I expected from all the hype and definitely not worth $50. It is too short and really needs a lot of work. Let's hope the fixes are soon coming. |

pls make a uncutpatch because i buy the game for 40€ fore singleplayer and 2 german server in multiplayer?! NOOOO! I also want to join amerikan server and so on! or i want my muny back! i spend not 40€ only for the singleplayer...

Agree. Just because we say the truth doesn`t mean we insult them. They need to know where they went wrong. I think the dev team either... a, Forgot what they were really supposed to be making. or b, Didn`t care and just wanted the money. If it`s `b` then I won`t buy any more of their `authentic` WW2 games. If it`s `a` then they dropped the ball badly and should`ve realised something was really wrong when they playtested it oh, and get rid of whoever it was that thought the arcade unreal elements were `Authentic`. Too much focus on trying to make `War and Peace`, not enough on emersing the Player into the uniform of a WW2 US soldier and the difficulty of fighting a war. I believe they wasted those years simply writing the story and animating the actors and totally FORGOT about the game until too late. |
|||
|
I too hope it is not all about the money. You know, I think gearbox should invite some of you guys to a round table discussion about this game and get some ideals from the people that play. I know they think that they have all the "brains" working for they already and they don't need any out side help but they are wrong. I worked for a very large chemical company as an electrican/CAD designer and had to deal with many engineers that thought that way but they soon found out that the man on the floor knew some things that were not in the books. Gearbox has to get out on the floor. |

At the beginning of HH I was still very enthusiastic. But now I've played out the game I am considerably disappointed in Hells Highway. I have been a big fan of the series and after EIB I expected that the strong line would have been continued. But actualy this successor is not even as good as EIB and in fact also worse than RTH30. The AI of HH is much too weak. Even on authentic, its just a turkey shoot. At the beginning of the game I still thought, "well, the beginning is just a training exercise and that's why the AI is very weak.", but unfortunately the AI remained very bad during the complete game. They hardly attack and only exchange defending positions. Even when they are behind cover you can easily give them a headshot. And why did you leave out the German handgrenades?
Moreover the game is just boring. All you do is you basic FFFF tactics. It does not have the suspense and the challenge of RTH30 and EIB. The last level of Hells Highway is just a joke. You knock out a couple of positions with the tank and that's it! Game over!. What an absurd end! There's also nothing to indicate that the Allies are losing the fight. The tanks you can simply ignore. You can just walk up to theme and place a bomb. In EIB they are killers!! You **** your pants if you run in to them! Gearbox: The games graphics are good. But the gameplay and the AI are simply bad! If this is the future for BIA then I'm sad to say that you've lost me as a customer. |

havent got the game yet, but what ive read, seems im going to be disappointed...my only question,which maybe someone can answer in their post, is there a save point button?...or replay over and over to get it right?...seems most are impressed with the sound and looks but the game play and the ai that thinks and fights back is lacking..i thought thats what we were all waiting for?..i would gladly give up great graphics for better ,smatter ai

I have a Athlon X2 4800+, 2GB RAM, and an nVidia 7800GT. This game runs so slow on my system that it is unplayable. I recognize that it's not the fastest rig out there, but it's not slow either. There was a time when PC games were made scalable so that you could dial down your detail level and get a decent frame rate. With this game, I'm screwed. Thanks for nothing Ubisoft.
|
||||
|
No save button. It works with checkpoints. You'll have to start over, You begin from a fixed position set by Gearbox. So, if you're 10 min. unther way and get shot, I'll have start from the last checkpoint (on authentic you'll start agian from the beginning of the chapter). |
