I get killed more times while dug-in than at any other time - why 'cos I can't aim down the sight - so I have no idea where I'm firing - the only time I can do this is when fighting with a German weapon that has a scope.

The same thing happens with the .30 cal or german light machine gun when fired from behind cover.

It wasn't a problem while I was playing first time around you get the aimpopint - but I'm playing through on Authentic and its losing a lot of the authentisity when you can't aim right - hopefully a patch can sort this out.

You were never in real life military service were you?
WELL you wanted it real, you virtualy got it.

Now watch out for that German up in that window behind you for he's got a G43 and the crosshairs are right on your neck.

Seriously though you really have to be more cautious and remember the German AI is a LOT more experienced and he WILL nail you.

Dosn't holding down both the middle mouse button and the "W" button while in "Dug In" help your aim?

I have had militry traning when I was younger!

Normally I press the rmb to aim down the sights - doing this while dug in and pressing either the w, a or d (depending on my placment doesn't zoom - it enlarges what you see and brings it closer but you don't look down the sights.

Hence you can't aim correctly down the sights while firing from cover.

And the AI is good but I'm also supposed to an experience Airbourne soldier whose been in the field, almost constantly, since D-Day - so I should be albe to aim a rifle correctly.

NO NO not the right mouse button, hold down the "Middle" mouse button while pressing down the "W" key while in "Dug In" mode. Try this and let me know.


Sorry about the service rant as I thought you may be a young teen ager with no combat experience. I do apologize.

P.S. This is straight from the BIA HH manual:

AUTHENTIC - Completing the game unlocks the Authentic
difficulty. When playing on Authentic, all HUD elements
are disabled, giving you an unaltered view of the
battlefield. You will have to watch enemy movements to
determine their suppression level, and you won’t have
a crosshair to assist your aim. Your enemies are also
crack-shot accurate. Good luck, Soldier!


Notice it says that you will have NO crosshair.

Don't be looking for a patch on this. But try the middle mouse button at the same time as the W key when in "Dig in" mode as it still may help?

Sorry - I actually meant middle mouse button - its all the other games Iplay that I usually have it set to the rmb.

I actually prefer no crosshair, just like the original games forced you to acually aim down the sights - more realistic - taking it away when you dug-in seems a bit idiotic to me.

It saying that someone behind cover who leans out can't aim as well as someone outside of cover, whihc is obvioulsy nonsense.

Because of what LostGunner said regarding the lack of visual aids in authentic mode, I've found that I have to play the game differently. In authentic mode I only use the dig-in command to restore my health, and I have fewer safe spots from which to engage the enemy. I'll typically find a spot that gives me decent cover without having to rely on the dig-in command. I just aim down the sights, peek out from behind cover and take as many shots as I can before having to duck back into cover. If I'm in a location that leaves me partially exposed, then I'll use dig-in to regain my health, disengage dig-in and start shooting down the barrel again.

Patience coupled with the procedure mentioned above is the only way I can play the game in authentic mode.

Yeah I'll stick to "Veteran" and use my G43.

Which reminds me. If you don't mind, use the cheat and use a G43. With its scope you can nail them. Although it may be canceled out in "Authentic" ??

nope you can still use the scope in authentic while dug-in.

what really annoys me is that in the other BIA games when the germans where suppressed they were suppressed - this game they don't - there's no difference in behaviour with suppressed or non-suppressed troops.

I too play the game differently in authentic mode - the game stops being an fps and almost becomes a 3rd person squad game - I use my squads more (and actually better) and I try to get close enough to the enemy to use grenades on them - especially as in dug-in mode you can't see where your shots are going except at night (unless there's heavy rain)

Personally I don't think I'll be replaying the game after this run through and I don't play BIA online so I'll be uninstalling it. Its got zero replay value for me.
