Have a good day,
I hope that someone is reading this e- mail and that it wasn ´t moved into spam folder right away. I write you directly, because forums proved to be quite an ineefective way of contacting SOMEONE responsible in Ubi. Recently, I bought Brothers in arms Hell Higway (PC DVD) and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Both games cannot be installed and run properly on my system because one reasom. Securom DRM. I thought that DRM was meant to protect your games against piracy. As I see it, it does nothing to thwart piracy, it just causes troubles. Both games can be barelly installed and I cannot launch them because this virus based DRM. I spend a lot of money for your games.. and well I am being treated like a criminal. And finally those damn games won´t even run. Is this a bad joke? Oh yes, I am sure that it´s caused by Securom virus, because other games without it can be installed without problems. And they even run. Not to mention the fact, that if I am able to run your games on my PC (usually forced to use cracks), they are often poorly coded, bugged. Both above mentioned games have serious bugs(Dark Messiah crashes after launching, very funny). I was deeply dissatisfied when you implemented securom virus internet activation anti user protection. I ceased to buy your games using this protection (check my account how many other games you distributed I legally own). Now I ceased buying your games completely. I am tired of being harrassed and treated like criminal. I am tired of having problems when running your games. I am tierd of your company using cracks in patches (R6 Vegas 2) and then implementing internet activation. I am tired of fact that I, who bought the game, paid for it cannot play it without problems, don ´t get an adequate tech support etc. I am tired of being your custommer and I will not be it anymore. Enjoy your kicking into your customers, I hope that latest drops in sales will show you the right way soon. Securom and crappy tech support is not the way. Sincerely, your former customer Ivan Bernatek Liberec Czech Republic |

Considering that this is your first post in the BIA forums, and you've never posted in the DM forums, perhaps you should have posted asking for help with your game problems, instead of simply making yet another anti SecuRom post like all your other posts in the Far Cry forums, but then, SecuRom bashing seems to be your main aim here.

I´ll be honest with you. I expected such reply. I hoped something different. Yes, it´s popular Securom bashing, because that virus actually prohibits use of legally bought games to many customers, not only me. I hoped that UBIs response will be something like:
"we are sorry that DRM we use causes you troubles, please describe it in detail or contact tech support, we will try to help you." No, something different arrived. So, please, tell your management, when tehy cry again, that sales on PC are low. It´s not because of piracy, part of it is your DRM policy. I am bored of beaing treated like criminal and well, your games are pretty expensive so I am not happy that they even don´t run on my system because of securom virus. When I pay for it I expect that it will run without troubles. Neither BiA HH, nor the Dark Messiah are running. Both because of that DRM crap. So, if you think it´s okay (and whole post about SecuRom trash and recent talk of your management indicates that you don´t find it sick) I don´t think I have need to buy your games. I can spend my money on something different. Until you come to common sense, I am not buying anything from Ubi. Check my profile and you will see that I bought lot of your games. I am the hard core gamer who doesn´t hesitate to invest a lot of money into games. Not into yours anymore. I hope you will see it as soon as possible. Some of your games are still worth of buying, not ingoring. Maybe, you will regain some of my trust (and others). Give it a try. |

I agree with IvanBernie. I have posted a request for BiAHH support on the Ubisoft Technical Support and the automated response was useless, and the request was cancelled after 48 hours. I tried to contact Ubisoft by email and the address is invalid. What is going on? I have written to Ubisoft UK. I have bought several Ubisoft titles but we shall see if I buy any more..

I haven't complained about securom before, but I have been putting up with it for a while.
I have a problem, everytime I use a game taht uses it, say far cry 2 and others that I have purchased, if I have the disc in, it says "please insert disc" or "please use the original and not a backup". This is infuriating, when I have the case and disc right here! I have to reinsert the disc and wait for autorun to work (which it not always does) and click play in the menu. Every time I want to play the game. Not cool. |

@IvanBernie
Before purchaseing any game you need to read the specs and warnings on the box/package. The warning on BIA HH PC package is: It may be too small to read in pic. This is what it says: "NOTICE: This game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some disc and virtual drives." That alone should have made you think if you had the proper equipment or not. If in doubt ask someone whom knows this very well known problem instead of bashing UBI for they DID warn you. It's not just "Securom", there are several others on the market. I know of others whom have had this problem with DVD Play/Record drives so they just buy some other read only DVD drive, ( also very cheap in price these days ) slip it next to their DVD Play/Record drive, put BIA HH in new drive and off they go winning the BIA HH war. BIA HH is not the only game out there that will not play if you have the wrong DVD player. ( usally a DVD Player/Recorder ) Some DVD Player/Record drives do not see the code on the disk. There are several of these drives on the market. Mine is a five year old DVD drive ( Just read, not record ) and it reads BIA HH disc code perfect as in NO problems at all. So you might want to give it a try for a bunch of the newer games you will have trouble again with the security on the disc. Don't blame the game developer or the publisher as they are only trying to protect their product from being possibly stolen. Some of the earlier DVD drive mfg.'s did not think of that in time. If you manfactured something and someone else copyed it and started selling it leaving you in the hole I'll bet you would come up with something very fast to protect your product. Same thing for UBI and other publishers. |
