For the dutchies: Do you live near one of the places of Market Garden?
And some small information about it during the war.

Myself, raised in Best, still living there, born in Eindhoven.
No family members died during the war so far I'm known with it, although my grandmother lost a friend of hers during the war.

As of matter of Best itself: heavy fighting lose of a bridge (Joe Mann for the Americans, and they should know which one) Heavy fighting at the stonebakery, Heavy fighting in the fields.

Church itself substained some damage, but not as much as other churches and it got repaired in the early 60's. Thus ensuring its survival and the location of the church for years to come. (interessting note: First church to be taken back from the protestants in 1794, and the only church in the Netherlands to be built on the birthplace of a saint)

Another funny fact: The house my grandfather and grandmother lived in was a hospital for 101st Airbornes.

Don't live near Arnhem but have been allot at the places where their has been fought, including the Oosterbeek Military Cemetery,Hotel Hartenstein in Oosterbeek,Arnhem War Museum 40-45 at Schaarsbergen, just around the corner of a entrance of The Veluwe(you can even buy some fixed rifles there at the museum and even allot more stuff.)

I still want to go to museums in Best en Groesbeek. My parents went to the memorial that was held i believe 2 weeks ago at the Ginkelse heide (i was sick). They talked with some British vets from a Paratrooper division that landed there,my stepfather videotaped and when he has put the tape on dvd i will make a nice compilation of it.

He also bought a little bottle of whiskey from the 4th Bn Parachute Regiment, the British that dropped there, they gave two of these little bottles at every british soldiers(very good for keeping yourself warm).

But i live in Zoetermeer,it's close to The Hague but when you are in a high flat here in the south of Zoetermeer you can see Rotterdam, when the Germans invaded here in Holland and our troops gave heavy resistance (more resistance than the Polish and France gave)they almost wiped Rotterdam from the earth with a heavy bombardment and ash and burning pieces of paper landed in the outskirts of Zoetermeer.

When the Germans retreated from Holland they mostly came through here...They where picked of by Spitfires on the long polder roads here.
