I tried modifying the defaultinput.ini file in order to enable cheats, but I'm unable to save the changes. I get a message saying in effect that the path is invalid, although it is correct. Anyone know why I'm unable to save this edited file?

I'm assuming you're using Vista...

If you're already logged in as the Administrator, right-click on the defaultinput file; select "Properties" and click on the "Security" tab; click the "Edit" button and highlight "Users" in the user name box; put a check in the box for "Full Control" and click Apply > OK; alter the file and save away.

Note: You may need to repeat the above for other users that are not authorized full control of the file, but the user name box will probably only list SYSTEM, Administrators and Users. SYSTEM and Administrators already have full control.

Thanks, that worked, but now I can't use the "tab" key to select a team and have them fall in. What do I need to do to regain this control?

Did you happen to assign the tab key to ConsoleKey and TypeKey in the following?

ConsoleKey=
TypeKey=
MaxScrollbackSize=1024
HistoryBot=-1

If so, try replacing it with the tilde ~ key instead and see if it works. If not, then change it back to tab and just re-assign the team order function to another key in the game's options menu.

I installed some cheat codes that I coppied.

I am running a PC.

These: BIA: Hell's Highway Cheat Codes
Cheat codes.
Select the "Enter Codes" option at the main menu. Enter one of the following codes to turn on cheats.

I entered the bottom three and each was excepted by the game.

Problem is there seems no way to activate each one. I thought by pressing the ~ key you would have an option cheat. Guess I'm wrong.

I'm surely missing something here but I don't know just what.

Need some help please.

EDIT: Never mind, after some googleing I figured it out. Now working just fine ( cheats that is ).
