Update: The bug described below is not the only one causing BiA not to save properly, but if you have problems with BiA saving, try the fix anyway, it worked for some people.

Bug
There is a bug that prevents BIA HH from saving any settings or progress if the "My Documents" folder is set to a non-default location. (For example "E:\" instead of "C:\Documents and [...]"). There is no error displayed ingame.
If you go to the menu or quit the game, all progress is lost, even if the game displays "Checkpoint saved".
In the menu, the profile-list is empty, and creating a new profile always states that a profile with that name already exists.
Solution
Extract the following folder to "My Documents\My Games":
http://rapidshare.com/files/152366358/BIA_Hells_Highway.zip
Do NOT delete any existing folder, but overwrite if prompted.

If that does not work, the long way to do it:
Set the location of "My Documents" to the default.
Start the game once.
Set the location of "My Documents" to your previous setting.
Copy the "My Games" folder from "[WINDOWS-DRIVE]:\Documents and Settings\[USER]\My Documents}" to your "My Documents" folder.
Play the game, BIA now saves properly.

I hope I could save some of you guys the trouble of finding this out the hard way.

That's interesting, my "My Documents" folder is under D:\Documents and Settings\... and not C:\ and it works just fine.
Could this bug only happen with vista? Or maybe if you changed the "my documents" folder to something very different like E:\I like it\Somewhere Else\My Documents\...?

I guess D: is your Windows-drive? So your "My Documents" folder still is in the default location.
For me, this bug appears in Windows XP SP3.

Fearendon, you're right. D: is my windows drive, so my "my documents" folder is in the default location, I get it.

Thanks but it doesn't work for me. My "My Documents" folder is already in the default Location ("E:\Users\*****\My Documents", E is my windows drive) and it also contains some BIA Data but I cannot get the game to save my progress. Do I have to copy the "My Documents" folder to my C: drive? Or is there a config file I have to type in the locatin of the "My Documents" folder?

Thanks in advance

I only know how to solve this bug running windows XP, and it seems that you have vista. You can try extracting the folder to a "My Games" folder and see if that works. (For you the folder-structure should be: "E:\Users\...\My Documents\My Games\BIA Hells Highway\".

Thanks but I've fixed the problem.

If someone has the same problem try this:

Make sure you have full access to the "My Dokuments" folder. Many problems are caused by an insufficient folder control.
At \My Documents\My Games there's a folder called "BIA Hells Highway". Delete it and run the game.
It creates a new folder with the same name as the deleted one.
Now you should be able to save your progress.

Hope this helps.

Well im not really sure wht the problem you guys are having is ..
In my case i have been able to save game progress till a certian point in the game , but now i cant save past this point .

Is this the same for everyone here , or can you not save at all .

A few games around had a problem if there were to many saved game files , im wondering if deleting some may help ??? ( crysis would crash if to many saved games )

Just bought this game , i could have downloaded it for free .
So please give us a bone and help us out..

In my case, I can't save at all because I can't even create a profile. Even my video or commands configuration don't save.
For a 50€ game, that's really a shame...

So i ahve followed the suggested bug fix to the letter with no result. The notion that i will move my 500gb document folder is just not going to happen, there must be a .ini file or another settings file that we can edit and point the game to the correct drive, personally i would of though when installing the game it would be able to detec if the documents or in vistas case user folders have been moved.

I understand it must be a nightmare coding games for such a wide range of GPUS, CPUs, OS's, consoles and so on... but the with out the simple things working there not much hope for the rest of us!

share the wealth of your knowledge and let me play the game i paid good money for!

Hi

I have tried the solution in this thread and it has stopped me from running BIAHH at all.
I try to start the game from either the desktop or the BIAHH folder, and the BIAHH.exe file errors and crashes.
I have tried re-installs to no avail.

Does anyone have a solution?

Many thanks for any information.
