General protection fault!

History: Address = 0xf9b2a2 (filename not found)

Hi

Has anyone else had this error. I started getting this after I changed my 'My Documents > My Games > BIA HH' folder with the folder from the rapidshare website,

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2751085444/m/1501073296

Got it because I wasn't able to save my game, and the checkpoints weren't saving.

Now my game crashes everytime I try to start it up.

Thanks for any help guys!

Specs.
Intel Core2Duo E6750 @ 2.66GHz
2GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB
Windows XP SP3 -32bit
Latest nVidia Drivers: 180.48
PhysX 8.10.13

EDIT: I have re-installed the game twice now, no change. It's strange that it doesn't work anymore - worked fine before, just no saves.

It has been 7 years now and I still love Stronghold. I must be weird, lol.

I've had the same exact problem.

I'm running a AMD Dual Core (not sure the model) with 4 gigs of RAM, an nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB on Windows XP. I have the latest drivers for the graphics and physics card (180.48 and 8.10.13, respectively.)

I've read on other forums that a solution is to reinstall the drivers that came with the game, 8.9.04. I tried uninstalling the drivers and then installing 8.9.04 and running the game, but it still didn't work. Someone else said they just added another gig of RAM, but I have four so I don't see how that's not enough.

Please, Ubisoft or really just anyone: could someone figure out what's wrong?

(Apparently General Protection Faults are memory faults and occur when a block of requested memory is already being used or the program calls for a block of memory that doesn't exist. So it would occur if you didn't have enough RAM or too many things were running in the background, I'd think.)

I have tried the other forums. I have posted in the Tech forum with the same message - no replies there as of yet.
It is just that the game was fine, it was just the occasional crash which was the most stable I could get it. But since I replaced the original My Games folder with the other one to fix the game not saving checkpoints, BIAHH does not want to run no matter what I do.

The game was fine with my 2GB of RAM before. I may run it windowed if I can. That fixed my Fallout 3 crashing issues, luckily.

If anyone else has anything else I can try, please leave a message. Any working solution is only going to benefit the community after all.
Smile

EDIT: I have tried to run BIAHH in windows mode - still nothing. If anyone has had my problem, and fixed it, or at least made the game playable once more, please post here.

OK, I don't know if anyone is following this thread, but here goes anyways.

OK - I have updated the following drivers:
nVidia graphics driver - 180.48
PhysX driver - 8.09.04
nForce driver - 15.23

I got the game to run this morning in windowed mode, and then it crashed when I got to the MG in the church. OK - so I restart the game, change the res and go again. Got it to load the next part, so I start changing the resolution to a higher one. But as soon as I changed the texture quality in the option screen, the game crashes.

Now I am back to the same error message, and I am at quite a loss at what to do.

Does anyone have *any* idea as to why BIAHH decides to crash once and then never startup again. That is, I start the game and soon after the splash screen comes up, the game crashes or just locks up.

I guess I can load up my dxdiag file here as well if anyone wants to have a look.

If anyone has any tips, it would be very much appreciated. It is such a shame this game is like this, it is awesome when it does run.
BTW, Fallout 3 was crashing as well every now and then, but running it in a window allowed it to run. I hope this option allows some people to run their game.

I've had the same problem.
I got the game to run when I updated drivers for my graphics card (Nvidia). When I did that PhysX version 9.XX(can't remember the exact version number) was installed
After that the game worked like a charm Big Grin
I hope this will help you all
