I just want to say THANK YOU and congrats to Crytek for such a fun game. And thanks for including the editor. You know a game has legs when editing it is as much fun as playing.

Now everyone make more Assault maps (instead of TCs that no one will play.)

Well that's probably the stupidest comment I've heard... Especially since FarCry has possibly the most potential for awesome TC's than any game ever released.

Try opening the file with a different archive utility, like winrar.

Tim,

I take it the downloadable version of the editor manual is a newer version than the v0.1 beta that comes with the game?

And is there any chance to possibly collect orders for a printed version of the manual, in color? Alas living 'in' the Bavarian Forrest (backwoods in other words Wink, copy shops are kinda rare here that could do it.

Yes, AE-on, this version is the latest available right now, although I have just completed v1.1. Most of the changes in that are minor, though, so anyone who has already printed it out can just slip in the changes listed in the back, and not have to print the whole thing out again. I'm afraid there is no printed version available for purchase right now, but if there becomes enough interest, maybe it will be a viable proposition.

Tim,

thanx for the quick answer. Just noted that the manual I downloaded indeed is v1.0 Smile

Would be wonderful if a printed version were possible. I really miss the good old days where you could hold things in hand 8-).

Really wonder how things will go after 10 years of mapping (or so) and GKTradiant Quake 3 Arena mapping vs. Sandbox...

On another note... is there any policy at Cryteck concerning the use of the maps available in the game? (Presently I am assuming Sandbox maps let you always edit them). As a DM / TDM fan, it would be wonderful to have adapted/cut down version of all the Assault maps for DM... maybe Smile

I don't think there would be a problem as long as you weren't using them for commercial purposes, in which case you would probably need to speak with Ubisoft's legal department Big Grin.

It doesn't work for me. I click on the file and it says it can't decrypt it or something.

I have a question.

Beside many screenshots in the v1.0 manual, there is a name given to it like Demo:AIPoint865 or DEMO: FobiddenArea_Island03.

What is this referring to?

I did find a demo map (very cool, btw) but didn't see these particular areas on that map.

So, what are these names referring to?

Thanks! Smile

Also - any chance of a more advanced version of the manual? I find the current manual just barely scrapes the surface on the things you can do, which I understand is great considering it was done in 180 pgs. But I'd love to see more examples and more advanced tips, like how to get a Merc to sit in a chair and type at a desk, etc.
Cool

Swooper,
the advanced stuff is actually more or less what the forum as a resource is for. At least at the quake3world forums, all the really advanced stuff is asked/replied to there.

I am sure the more knowledgable folks will start their own tutorials on certain advanced aspects, for us to read up on.

AEon

P.S. Tim: I am starting to work through the manual v1.0, page by page, and have been finding a few 'errors'... currently I am writing them all up, to post here. Is there actually any interest in this?

This is very true, but it sure would be nice to have advanced info all compiled in one nice document instead of scattered all over the Internet. Wink But, maybe this brings up a reason to start a new Sticky called Online Advanced Tutorial Sites WORTH Noting. There's a lot of very weak stuff out there, so the keywords are Advanced and WORTH NOTING.

I would be interested in your errors findings as I have found some too.

Cheers! Big Grin

I downloaded two different files. I use WinRar. And I download the files twice each.

Hmm. All I can say is it works for everyone else.

Try doing it on another pc or give us in exact detail your steps in downloading and opening the file. Exact errors, too.

Sorry you're having trouble...

Swooperz,

Just did the first walkthrough map. So I am still at the very beginning... the parts I am looking forward to is the *real* geometry manipulation, that I am used to from Quake 3 Arena...

From the bit playing around, the editor is amazingly easy to use... but seeing how delitant my first attempts (crater, sand, vegetation) were, I am really starting to respect what the Crytek folks were able to build... Bow

Ok. In full detail. I click on the link, I download as usual, and save it to a floder named "My Downloads". Once the download is completed, I double click on the .zip file. Once the file opens up, I double click on the file "FC_Editor_Manual". A seperate window opens up as "Acrobat Reader", and it says "There was an error opening this document. This viewer cannot decrypt this document."
