Is it possible to install and play a map without applying a patch first,ie. on the original ver.?

well the patches are maninly used to play online and fixes the necessary bugs from version 1.0. You can't play online unless you have the most recent released patch that is out. You don't need the patch to play on lan servers tho.  |

The answer is yes. Single player maps can be installed with any patch or no patches.
