After talking with some members of the community to develop a patch with compromises between 1.33 and 1.4, I have put together something I hope both groups can enjoy playing. Here is the changelog:
-- Reverted SAW back to 1.33 levels. -- Reverted Shotgun back to 1.33 levels. An early, improved shotgun that was not supposed to be in 1.4 somehow made it in final scripts. -- Fixed vehicle bullet damages. Buggy now takes 100 bullets to destroy. Humvee now takes 200 as intended. -- Reverted canvas bullet stoppage to full. This will stop the single player AI from seeing through buildings. -- Modified Clivey's fix for bino bug to be less of a hamper on normal sniping yet still be a fix for the bug. I've also created a new PB config to allow for the new file and md5 check for it. I've also disallowed a SystemCfgOverride.cfg in the root folder and only allow cmdrate at default of 40. This should help put everyone on the same playing field. Patch Download Patch Mirror by Strategy Informer Patch Mirror by FarCryFiles 1.41 Punkbuster server config Server installation instructions: Server must be patched to 1.4 and then simply put SCRIPTS141.pak in FCData. Reboot the server for changes to take effect. **Note: Do not have SCRIPTS141.pak in your FCData folder if connecting to a server that is not patched to 1.41. I'm personally satisfied with the current patch. It was a pain at first, but people have adapted. Honestly, I don't want you noobs running around with SAWs again. To me, thats the easiest weapon to use and requires little to no skill. Scoped weapons are teh pwn.

Well I have to agree with you there Forbes, but I did this for the majority opinion of FC players. Let FC go out with a bang and full servers while everyone anxiously awaits Crysis.

I welcome any updates. 1.4 created a lot of shotgun and nade noobs, but it did move folks away from the SAW, which had become the dominant weapon in 1.33 to the exclusion of any others.
I like the OICW, but it would be even nicer if you eliminated the circle-X lineup deal sight system. The way the nades work right now, I can hit a stationary target from any distance as long as it is within range. I think to make things fair (and to maybe make the Euros reconsider not allowing any use of OICW nades), the player should have to estimate the range and angle rather than being able to point at a target and have the weapon range itself. The AG needs something to make itself a usable candidate. Right now nobody uses it as far as I know. There are some hacks out there with it, but that's become a way to identify them. I'd like to see an AG you can use to launch regular time delayed nade type rounds at a slightly greater distance. About 10 of them in the clip maybe, to account for the lack of precision. I guess what I am saying is that I'd like to see a round coming out of the AG that can be bounced off of things on the way to the target. Lastly, any chance you'll get time to fix what I call the "engie one shot full clip bug", you know, the one that allows engies to unload an entire clip worth into you with one single shot? |

lol @ Forbez... just take one look at the servers that are active.. they are either running a modded script or they are empty or both. I dont wanna start flaming anyone but this wasnt a "u must download this Patch or Else" thread...

@Forbes- I'm not sure if your post was sarcastic or not, but I'll reply as if it wasn't.
Do I personally agree with some of the changes in this patch? No. But if it's going to bring some people that have uninstalled the game back and get a ladder competition going, so be it. Let people play the way they want to for the rest of the time of the game. The XT mod has been available for quite some time and I have seen some clans run both a 1.4 and an XT server, but there's many reports of installation difficulties, increased lag, and .NET crashes. Hopefully, this will eliminate the problems. @ALastNoob- TBH and brief, I don't have the time or talent to adjust the firing mechanisms of the GL'ers. The changes to the OICW in 1.4 were coded by 3up who made my idea a reality. While it's hard to find the balance between making a GL too noob-friendly dominating and pretty much useless in an FPS I think we did well with what we did. As you said, targets usually have to be stationary for effective usage. This makes them a great anti-sniper weapon and flag coverage. The single-clip fire bug was looked at during patch 1.4 development and we didn't find an adequate fix without dramatically hampering all other weapons. @StrategyInformer- Thanks for the mirror |

I saw 1.4 come and didnt like the weapon changes but liked a lot of the other stuff. I played on and got used to it. I saw XTV3 come and didnt like it. Didnt play it, went on with 1.4.
In my book the only way to hold on to some sort of community was to go on the official patch only. But it didnt happen, everything was a mess with different settings everywhere. These last few weeks 1.4 has gained some support and i started seing clanplayers on our 1.4 servers again. And now this. I hope you are right docseal, i hope we all go on 1.41. But i think not. On a personal note it annoys the cwap out of me to have to change my gameplay again. And whats up with the pak-file? We dont have a choice do we, we have to upgrade or we get ûber-saws on our 1.4 servers, dont we |

Doc: First off, there is little we can do to bring people back to FC. 1.4 was not the reason people stopped playing. Although, I understand what you are saying, I think it would be more beneficial to just play as is. Throwing a new patch into the mix will only cause more confusion and potentially problems?
Rizno: I am fully aware of the modded servers. I probably play more often than you do. However, its up to the admins to determine their own settings. And I'm sure the same modified settings will happen in 1.41. So if most servers are already running 1.3 SAW settings, than what would be the point of a 1.41? I guess my biggest problem is whether the SAW will have a huge over-advantage as it did previous to 1.4. I'm also concerned with shotgun going back to 1.3, where you actually had to be on top of someone to get some damage. |

Whereas a normal patch would require a reinstall, using either 1.4 or 1.41 is very simple process. The decision will be by majority usage/opinion and the server admins. I put this out to the public as an option. What they do with it is their choice. It was better to do something than nothing.
As for game balance, it doesn't appear that the vast majority of FC community cared too much about it tbh. The just grew to love the SAW that they used for over 2 yrs. |

This patch sounds interesting, well it would be worth a try, but there's only one thing that doesnt make me wanna install it, it's the cmdrate lock. With cmdrate on 40, I've got nearly no hit detection, that's why I'm used to change it. I'm not a maniac, tweaking it everyday just to get a better hd, I use the same values for a long time, just to improve it. In my opinion it wasn't the most important cvar to lock.
I'll still try it, just to test new weapons balance, binoshiat fix and stuff. Also community was already splitted with 1.33/1.4/14+xtv3, and I got the feeling this will split it even more ^^, but eh maybe I'm wrong. PS: sry for any mistakes... blabla I'm french =). |

Contrary to what some of you might believe, 1.4 is EXACTLY why most of us in Australia stopped playing farcry. It was stupid to change things after so long. The saw now is erratic and anyone can shoot it with the same results.. NONE! Who asked for weapon balancing?.... its not like its was meant to be real life..It was what it was. I welcome this new change, and hope that our Gameops patch the servers, Farcry will definately acrue more people, How can it not? People keep persisting with 1.4 but leave with smashed walls and keyboards from frustration, knowing what they once could achieve was now no more, thankyou 1.4. To all you that dissagree with me.. Time will tell.. But I'm right!. Thanks Doc, It is better to grab a reaching hand from ruins than to let it slide into the past without having tried. |
