There are two kinds of (legal) additions to the Far Cry game. Mods and Maps.
MAPS Maps come in two main flavors Single Player (SP) and Multiplayer (MP). All maps are placed in the ..\Far Cry\levels folder after you unzip them. Single player maps are like levels in the game complete with mercs and/or trigens with AI and cutscenes. You access a single player map by starting Far Cry and hitting the tilde (~) key. A green popup will fill the upper half of your screen. This is called the console. In the console type "\map mapname" use a backslash and do not type the quotes. Instead of the word mapname type the name of the map you want to play exactly as it appears in the levels directory. The map will load and you can play. A common error is to have a map imbedded inside another folder with the same name. So D:\games\farcry\levels\mapname\ will work but D:\games\farcry\levels\mapname\mapname\ will not. Multiplayer maps come in two main flavors. Free-for-all (FFA)/Team-Death-Match (TDM) is one and assault is the other. To play a multiplayer map you need to start the game and hit the multiplayer button on the left of the main screen. From here you can log on to UBI and find a server that is running the map. To test the map locally, create a server on the LAN tab. In the server main page select the type of gameplay in the lower right and then select the map you want to play. Hit start and the map will load. You can download maps here: http://www.farcry-maps.com/ MODS Mods are modifications of how the game looks and plays. There might be different "skins" to give weapons or vehicles a new look or characters might be added or new weapons or sounds etc. To load a mod you need to put the files in the ..\far Cry\mods folder When you start the game click the mods button in the main menu and select the mod you want to run. You will need to restart the game. When the game has restarted it will have the new mod in place. Happy gaming This message has been edited. Last edited by: fabulouscoops, |

When I play a "fan-made" SP map, is there any way to choose difficluty levels, statistics mode and all the other things I can when playing a "normal" SP map?

Since my gaming background is primarily Novalogic Delta Force series etc I am wondering how PB acknowledges and deals with mods and skins when your playing.
Since Nova had major issues with mods and skins and most of the time skins where cheater / hacker created for an advantage during game play. Does the server or host have to accept skins for this not to cause any type of advantage to someone ? I am a big believer in mods and feel that they can add a new demention to the game if used correctly Thanks SSGWarHog-USA Vietnam Veteran 4th Infantry US Army Retired Anti Cheat Guild Head of Council http://www.anticheatguild.com |

WarHog - you have it correct, a PB enabled game server with whitefile lists and HD5 hash checks on key files would have to be set up to specifically allow certain modified files for skins, and most likely for mods as well.
If you have a modified skin and you play on a stock FC game server with PB running in the recommended configuration, you will most likely get kicked for a whitefile list violation. |

I followed the "map install" directions to a T... nothing.
I was trying to play the map called Sabotage. After I type \Sabotage what do I do? Do I press enter? Do I press the ~ key? I did both... and nothing. Lost and wanting to play. Thanks!! |

You need to type \map sabotage in the consloe and hit enter.
you left out the word "map". |

It's amazing at how ONE LITTLE THING can make a difference... just had to add the word "map" to it.

Hi ther eeveryone, i love farcry online multiplayer, most of all the FFA. I have a problem though because there are only the four common maps, Monkey bay, Cliffside, Surf and Radio. I have already downloaded the tournament map pack and put the maps in my farcry map folder, but i cant access the new FFA levels or any more TDM or *** levels, whats goin on i thought there were loads of levels? I am mostly concerned about the lack of extra free for all levels.

Did you check out Farcry-maps.com? Tons of FFA levels.

this is my first time trying to play a custom map. i followed the directions above. i type in \map scratch then hit enter and nothing.
anybody have an idea? |

Make sure you have the map scratch installed in the right place. Go to Programs Files(if this is where your Far Cry file is), then Far Cry file, then Levels file. You should find scratch in Levels file. Now click on scratch and if you find another file named scratch it won't work. If this is the case just "Cut" the scratch file that has stuff in it and Paste over the file named scratch in the Levels file and click Yes to all. Start the game, press ~ key and type \map scratch then enter. Should load. To quick save press ~ key to bring down console, type \save_game 1 then enter( you can call it 2 or 3 or anything you like )and press ~ key to continue game. Now this saved game will be on top of the Checkpoint list until another game is saved by you or the game.

FABULOUSOOPS, I am running farcry version 1.33 and No i havn't checked out farcry-maps.com yet, i downloaded the tournament map pack which has extra FFA levels like warhead, but there never seems to be anyone playing on them? Do the maps on Farcry-maps.com have more people playing, like ten to sixteen like on the Ubisoft FFAs? Also how do you access last man standing and the other game types? as it tells me that i need a mod or something? Also does anyone know of a gamepad which works with farcry, as i have been using the keyboard and mouse for a couple of months now!

Last man standing is a game type for Obsidian Edge, a Mod for Far Cry. You need to load the mod and get the maps for OE as well as play on OE servers.
You are probably right that few maps other than the stock ones are being run on most servers. Not much to do about that. |

Hi.. being new to this aswell I have recently upgraded Farcry with the latest patch and have downloaded map packs from recommended sites. After following all the instructions and good advice in the above posts none of the downloaded SP and MP maps exist in the levels folder, nor can I find them on my PC...even though they have their own folder... can't even find them using the Sandbox... any idea's or suggestions?
|

|
Have found the MP levels and they work fine... any suggestions where the SP levels may be hiding? Sorry for sounding ignorant
