Memory lane, SV. I used to own a pile of Avalon Hill games in younger days, including PL, but donated the lot to the local orphanage in the course of one of my house moves.

Yes, I still have Panzer Leader downstairs in a closet. Kind of gathering dust since computer games came along, like Steel Panthers, among others.

They were awesome board games! Could play them for hours!

Ya I have the itch to take a few out and give them a try once again Rattler. What I may look for later is a on-lone site that runs M/P's of these games. I think that would be cool. Cool

Funny you should ask, as I was thinking about that very thing when typing my previous post. I held on to "Battle of the Bulge" for some inexplicable reason, but over the years the game I've really missed has been "Jutland".

"Jutland" would make an excellent board game IMO. Never owned it but getting a copy wouldn't be a bad idea. Wink2

Due to the wonders of the internet, acquiring such things like this one once owned and unfortunately gave away or lost is distinct possibility now. Cool

They even reached Limeyland.

Tried Napoleon out with a young relative last weekend. He seemed quite taken with it - it's by far the most accessable Avalon Hill game I had. I let him win and I'm sticking to that excuse Blush - might have 'round two' in a few days.

The 'monster' games seemed more than a bit daunting to him - the thought of setting it all up and wading through the rulebooks and the space needed can't compete with simply switching on a games console or p.c. A shame, but that's progress.

Thanks for the very interesting post L/F. "Limey land" Big Grin

looks like you have a real nice collection buddy. Cool

i don't know there is just something about the details and info in these games that keeps drawing me back to them. I guess the thing is a little element called real "Strategy" Something I find missing in video games.

Yeah, I had 'Panzer Leader', and 'Tobruk'. The last time I played an Avalon Hill game was back in the late 1990's, unfortunately. Like the others have said, it's a lot easier to start and play a computer game like 'Rome: Total War', and not have to bother setting up before playing, and then have to pick up afterwards.

Besides, I like seeing the little p!ssant formations get bowled over and torn up by the catapultae. My favorite is to set one catapult unit to shoot solid shot while the other unit chucks the fireballs. You can't get that sort of satisfaction from a board game unless you actually set the cardboard pieces on fire. Winky

With the other thread and this one I've really been itching to try some of these games but as has been stated, it can be kind of rough learning all the rules and setting up a game, esp when you may not have but one or two friends interested. Does anyone know if there is a PC version of any of the Avalon Hill board games? After reading the last thread a found my old copy of Risk II for the PC, and it is still the board game with the same rules and same fun, without the hassle. It even has an advanced war board game with more complex rules and many more territories etc., but I would love to find a PC version of these classic war board games, maybe Axis and Allies or something...
