Was just reading about this yesterday, check out the price North Little Rock paid for their decommissioned sub.

I plan on visiting, but my son is a little too young at the moment. He'll appreciate it better when he's a little older anyway.

Naval vessels do seem to stay in service pretty long don't they? The HMS Victory was already 40 years old when she fought in Trafalgar according to her official site. Of course a sailing ship is not a sub but it seems to be par for the course for ships to have long service lives.

Here in the UK we get through new subs every 10-15 years
