p.s. Italeri has also dutch markings with the B-25C/D but they are just wrong. If you want to make a Dutch B-25, look for decals from 'Dutch decal' wich are out of print unfortunatly. Or ask around on www.simmerspaintshop.com or www.1java.org

Try a Tamiya kit just once and you'll never go back to Revell.

Bugger, I have ordered a 1:72 Revell B-17F on Sunday. I already have two 1:72 Lancaster bombers which look great (IMHO) but I wanted an American heavy in my collection.
Do Italeri do any soviet aircraft in 1:72? The only company that I could find that did them was Zvezda (Not sure of the spelling), I have an IL-2 and La-5fn by them which look ok.

I have a feeling that the B17 might be an old Monogram kit of high quality (though I might be thinking of the 1/48 scale kit) , so don't despair - yet Wink.

Even if it isn't an old Monogram model, it still will be nowhere near as bad as the 1:72 Airfix Tornado GR4. That kit was so frustrating that it nearly ended up in the bin on three seperate occasions. That kit is probably the worst one that I have ever done, it was a total ball ache from start to finish.
It is a shame because some of the other airfix jets are actually quite decent (the ones that I have come across), The F-14, Harrier GR7, Hawk and the Eurofighter are very good.

I used to be an avid kit builder of some 20 years or so until the advent of the console and PC started to erode my interest and then the necessity of surrendering my hobby room to my eldest lad as his bedroom provided the coup-de-grace.

I have found my mind wandering back to kits recently with the imminent arrival of a 1/32nd scale P-47D by Hasegawa being of particular note. I may be delving into the world of kits once again. I'd better dust off my airbrush and compressor.

@Dieg - I went round and round on which to build - I love those Polish Squadron decals....To be honest, I built the Spit that is the closest to the plane I like to fly the most on WarClouds (clipped wing, no bombs).

Get an airbrush - makes it a LOT easier to paint models nicely. I snagged an airbrush and compressor on Ebay (separately) for <$100 total.

Also, this site is chock full of useful tips:

thanks for info- I was origonally going to get a seperate decal sheet and do it as a plane from 602 or 603 squadron which flew these against the V2 launch sites in Holland ( including the famous big ben raid) but I was a bit dissapointed with the paint , which went on too thick, so just built with stock decals. An airbrush is definatly the way to go or thinning down the paint by a good percentage.

I also fly the clipped wing more now on warclouds since getting this - its a very nice plane there as well

Aside from photographs, which are irrelevant, you did a very good job on that big 1:48 B-17, which is not an easy model to build. Appears you reduced the seams nicely, and the finish looks very smooth. Very good. I would suggest joining the local IPMS chapter to get some pointers on camou. I would say you are off to a flying start!
