Pilot to passenger:
"Okay now remember Jeff, what ever you do don't touch the yellow and black strap below your knees. Jeff? Nooooooooo!"

Check it, bleed. Bro... was ON! Didn't trip. But the folks was freakin', Man. Hey, and the pilots were laid to the bone, Homes.

We had a SWO Captain (Surface Warfare Officer, ship driver) do that from a tomcat in my airwing. He was getting a backseat ride and punched himself out near fallon. The pilot came back and landed fine in his convertible. The Captain was fine, if a little shaken. He was joking about it later, but the squadron didn't find it funny as that jet was down for weeks waiting for a couple-hundred-thousand $ replacement canopy. The pilot said it took him several moments before he figured out what happened.

As one observer said: "What a trip. That guy took off in an Astra, came down in a parachute, and landed back at base in a helicopter. Not bad for a for a single flip."

Yup, that is the one. Interesting they also mention the one that went down behind the boat. I was in my rack when that one went down. By the time the announcement went out and I was topside the helo had already plunked them out of the water and the plane had sunk. That jet was not lost to "poor fuel management by the crew" anymore than that US Airways jet that went down in the Hudson was lost to poor bird avoidance by the crew. Whoever wrote that does not know the whole story.
