I'm trying to resist a sudden urge to buy until more concrete information comes regarding a few early reported issues.

Oh, and GOZR's not helping either. Loved the thumbs up screenie from the previous page. It showed his contagious excitememnt.

NO trim in WWI aircraft...ROF is the same! Very challenging and tiresome (for me) to keep level flight. BUT, if that's the way those guys in WWI flew these crates, Okay....I'll live with it.

That or you could cheat and use hardware trimming.

Massive complaining about the game's shortcomings at SimHQ certainly scare me. Besides, the game sets a bad precedence with it's intrusive requirement to be online with their servers at all times and is a bad business model in general. I hope people realize this and don't buy into it.

Has anybody tried off-line, your thought's on mis. building/playability/special effects you noticed and enjoyed...just any comment would be welcomed for this fence sitter ...edit: nevermind, I just bought it

Been carefully watching and reading. Nothing here has made me want to be online permanently for this. Don`t get me wrong, I like WWI sims, but I will not change for a collar around my neck.

I've only flown offline so far. Haven't gotten around to trying the mission builder.

For flight physics I'd say it is similar to IL-2 in terms of difficulty. The flight controls are twitchier for fine movements but for large maneuvers like a barrel roll the planes don't feel quite as agile. As mentioned before, no trimming so cruising for distances requires constant correction; although you fly slow enough that even with time compression you can keep the plane on course. I haven't tried flying in really bad weather yet, but it seems like the wind does effect your plane.

For playability I've had no real problems. My rudder pedals were registering backwards, but this is a known issue and the solution is in the FAQ's on the RoF forums. I get good frame rates with the graphics options cranked up to high. I do turn the post effects off though just because turning them on seems to cancel out the AA/AF settings.

The graphics and sound are excellent. The AAA bursts sound really cool. The lighting/shadow effects on your plane are very good. If you pull negative G's the engine will sputter and stall, although not quite as abruptly as in IL-2. Also the tracer rounds ricochet off solid objects; this confused me at first, I couldn't figure out why my bullets were bouncing off the enemy plane.

For complex engine management you have fuel mixture and radiator adjustments. The Fokker has auto fuel mixture, but for the Spad you really need to have the mixture set right to get optimal performance. Temperature is important to monitor as well since running high RPM's at too high or low of a temp can reportedly cause damage.


The only real gripe I have so far is that it just comes with the Spad 13 and Fokker D.VII as flyable; there are Nieuports and Albatros's as AI planes though. If the flyable add-on planes are reasonably priced this isn't such a big issue, but it remains to be seen what they'll charge.

Thank God someone agrees with me. So many people are like children unable to resist a piece of candy. And because of it, we might end up with all gaming companies adopting this type of horrid strategy if too many are enticed with this candy. I say be a man and take a stand against this. Don't buy into it!!!
