I think it is a duff WiFi 'broadband' router (BT of course...). It keeps dropping the connection altogether.

Is your router the modem as well? If not, get a new router, might I recommend this one? It is inexpensive, is solidly made, and can run the custom DD-WRT firmware that allows it to do things a $300 router does! Just got one myself here's a good guide to installing the custom firmware, just be sure not to make the mistake I did, when installing the asus 2.0.0.8 firmware (required to allow flashing to DD-WRT) I accidentally downloaded and flashed the chinese version! Imagine my surprise when the router rebooted and BAM, traditional chinese!
