Would it be likely that I could see a difference in picture quality even though the specs are the same??
I was internet shopping through a well known company's web site and I was checking out the price/spec's on several different LCD monitors from several different manufactures. I know that one or two company's makes most of the worlds LCD displays and that they just sell them to computer company's who then bundle them into their own designs and hardware/firmware configurations... What I'm wondering is this... I'm looking at 5 different monitors from 5 "different" manufacturers that all seem to have the exact same specs (and more or less the same price). # Recommended Resolution: 1680 x 1050 # Viewing Angle: 160°(H) / 160°(V) # Pixel Pitch: 0.282mm # Display Colors: 16.7 Million # Brightness: 300 cd/m2 # Contrast Ratio: 1000:1 # Horizontal Refresh Rate: 31 - 83 KHz # Vertical Refresh Rate: 55 - 76 Hz Obviously I'm just reading these specs, but would I see a difference in the picture quality between these monitors??? The manufacturers are: Hanna-G, BenQ, KDS, ASUS and NEC... Would it be likely that I could see a difference in picture quality even though the specs are the same?? I'm just a Rock 'n' Roll footnote... |

Yes, it's certainly possible. Even if the LCD panels are made by the same company, there are other components inside the monitor that could greatly affect the picture. |

Is their something I should be "looking for" spec/feature wise(?)...or are some brands just better then others? I'm just a Rock 'n' Roll footnote... |

You should be looking at contrast ratio and response time. The higher the contrast ration and the lower the response time the better.
There are some really nice 22 inch lcds with 3000:1 contrast ratios and 2 m/s response times. You can get 22 inch LCDs with 10,000:1 to 20,000:1 contrast ratios if you spend the money. Personally I'd recommend Samsung or Dell. If you like good color representation I'd advise you to go higher than 1000:1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "If this isn't civilization, then why am I standing in a bomb crater?"
