Everybody loves chocolate. As children we would sell our souls, and some of us probably did, for a bar of our favourite flavour. As adults we learn that a well timed box of chocolates can go a long way in finding a place in that special ladies heart (younger readers take note Wink2). So I thought it might be interesting if, between us, we could compile a list of worthy chocolates.

My list is by no means comprehensive, so please feel free to add your favourite to the list. Perhaps some of us might like to adopt our favourite manufacturers logo as our sig? If only to illustrate the common bond that is the human love of all things chocolate Smile

Chocolate Of The World

America:

Hershey's

Website review:

Certainly the most famous American chocolate outside the U.S. As the link above shows, the range of chocolate available is absolutely staggering. Enough there to keep a chocoholic occupied for a lifetime. Britons among us may be interested to know that Hershey own a licence to produce Cadbury's chocolate in the U.S.

I found the website informative and easy to navigate. Recommended. 9/10

Britain:

Cadbury

Website review:

The range of chocolate does not compare to that of Hershey, but I cannot fault the quality of Cadbury's chocolate, especially my favourite flavour, Bournville. However, it should be remembered that some of our European friends don't think highly of British chocolate. Pity. Perhaps Cadbury should acquire a licence to produce Hershey chocolate in the U.K.?

I found the website rather disappointing considering Cadbury are the U.K.'s premier chocolate makers. Must try harder. 7/10

Holland:

Rademaker

Website review:

The Netherlands are famed for their processed food industry. Cold meats, cheese, chocolate and other milk products are abundant. Rademaker's range is not as wide as Hershey's, but as most of us know, when it comes to consumer choice no one beats America. That said, this Dutch product is very nicely packaged, and my experience of Dutch chocolate over the years suggests it would be well worth a try.

I found the website easy to navigate and colourful without being garish. Thumbs up. 8/10

Italy:

Gay Odin

Website review:

Truly a chocolate hunter's paradise. This small scale Italian manufacturer makes up in quality what they lack in quantity. Their products simply scream "BITE ME!". Their lovingly crafted confectionery shows the attention to aesthetics we have come to expect from the Italians.

I found the website classy and stylish. The larger manufacturers could learn a lot by paying it a visit. Bellissimo! 10/10

Switzerland:

Lindt

Website review:

Probably the most famous chocolate manufacturer in the world. Lindt has a reputation which is second to none. I can personally vouch for the quality of their produce, as I'm sure many of us can.

I found the website functional and informative, like a fine Swiss watch. Recommended. 9/10

Thanks for reading, and happy munching Thumbs Up

I'm a chocaholic and like the term implies, I'm not very picky. I'll eat the chocolate equivalent of varnish or sterno if it's the only thing available.

Hershey's standard milk or dark chocolate is what I usually eat but mostly b/c it's readily available. While I find it acceptable many "connoisseurs" find it vile. I love Dove chocolate here in the U.S. although I don't know if it's a US product. The Lindt Truffles are heaven on Earth IMO but the Dove is very close. I also like the Nestle bars that come in a red wrapper but they are hard to find without specifically hitting the candy aisle and I try and stick to the impulse displays to keep from becoming a big fat tub of goo.

AT LAST! I know what a Hershey bar looks like. Heard it so many times in US shows.

Not a major chocolate fan, but my daughter`s addicted to it. I can get her doing all the boring jobs by promising chocolate.

Nice lady, Monterey13, seriously. I`d clean up that chocolate for her... manually.

Maybe it's because you are so used to it? I reckon it would be the first thing I would buy if I ever visited America. It's viewed as an American icon in Europe. Foreign or unfamiliar chocolates always have an "exotic" appeal.

+1 on the Lindt Truffles Thumbs Up

I like dark chocolate of most brands the best. I eat Hershey's only when there is nothing else available.

If I pick up a candy bar, it is most likely going to be a Milky Way or Milky Way Midnight. Tongue

I of course love Hershey's.. It's certainly more American than "apple pie" to me. Much like others I'll eat any chocolate that is put in front of me. I don't think I've ever had "bad" chocolate. Much like pizza and sex... Even when it's bad it's still pretty good.

I loved driving by the Hershey's factory in Oakdale, California. Always meant to take the tour but never did Frown

Schwarz.13 has the answer.

I'd say that Green & Blacks blows away any other chocolate. Their drinking chocolate is superlative and has ruined me. I am unable drink anything else now, and cannot now be taken out to drink anychocolate in public, such is the fuss I make.

If only I could turn back time...

Chasing the halftracks across the sandflats, got a nice pine box,for that desert fox, machine guns blaring, and Arabs staring wondering why,the Westerners are there. It's the same old story, and it'll happen again."
