Thanks buglord, I wasn't aware of the Tamiya filler. I think I'll give that a try, I never got on with Milliput's two-part epoxy resin.

Edit: and thanks Billy_BigBoy Thumbs Up

I use Squadron putty.

Rather than rewrite the whole article, here's a great tip from ARC.

I can vouch - use this method pretty regularly - only thing is you definitely need an open window.

I like Milliput as well, but the no-sanding method is pretty seductive.

I use the Squadron Green Putty, the white doesn't dry as hard and I feel that I get a smoother surface than with the white. The testors putty is terrible, at least with my technique.

Hello guys, long time no see.

Some great stuff has been posted in my absence. Carts' Valiant on page 2 is stunning. Nick's Constellation with the moving props is another eye catcher. I love the paintjob on Billy's SH60B. The E and U boats on page 5 are wunderbar and Buglord's Corsair is top notch.

I still don't have a camera, so I can't post any of my own figures, but in order to get the thread back onto page 1 I'll spam it with some photos I've nicked from elsewhere.

Remember the unpainted version of this one from a few months back? Here she is tarted up. The photo isn't the best but you get the idea...

I thought this one was very well done...

A fantasy figure, but excellent lighting on the armour...

A few to finish off with. The film was terrible but the paintjob is great...

Managed to get my hands on 3 BF109g-14s from 21st Century toys, had to get them e-bay as my local home bargains didn't appear to get any Mad
So,instead of £1.99 i had to pay £4.99,still i am mildly impressed, they look very like a simple version of the hasegawa 109s and in some areas are identical, with a bit of "fettling" they should make acceptable models, and all 3 for less than the price of 1 Hasegawa kit!

The Tamiya Basic is good stuff. Its got a fine grain that is really handy for fine detail. One great advantage is it's fast drying time and the ability to dilute it with thinners. If you mix it into a slurry to a consistency a bit like slip clay, you can 'paint on' details. Figure modellers would find it particularly useful.

Below is a thing I'm making at the moment. The .80mm drill bit gives it scale. About 25mm from head to foot. The final piece will be in precious metal, but this is just the pattern that I'll use to make it from. It was made by spreading car bog over a silver wire frame. and roughly carved out. The details are all added in tamiya grey afterwards with a brush. The jewellers I work with don't quite know what to make of that technique. They still insist of carving everything out of wax. Veryhappy

Happy 4th all! And now a little update on my 1/32 109F conversion. Major surgery is now complete on the nose conversion with the exception of the oil cooler scoop. I've got the scoop cut down I just need to mold it in.

I've added lots of scratch details from brass and drink can aluminum. Hatches and latches etc... You can see the all brass canopy framing as well. This is just tacked on to check for fit. The windows must be made from clear plastic sheet. Be afraid! Be VERY afraid! Eek Don't be surprised if revert to the kit part for the rear glass. Here it is all mocked up before the tear down for cockpit construction.

The dust gasket is made from plastic card. I think I'm going to thin it back though.

You can see all my scratch made bits here. I have 101 uses for drink can aluminium! I'm thinking about skinning a whole model in this stuff.

This panel covers the ugly sink mark that all of these kits have in this spot. There was no way I could have scribed that panel back in after filling the sink mark so I just made a new one. It's a bit wrinkly but all aircraft had some stress marks anyway. Veryhappy

And last the Eagle Editions spinner. I hollowed out the blast tube and drilled the prop bosses. I then cut the Aires prop blades to just slide in. This will make setting the prop pitch a breeze and they don't even need glue.

A speck of dirt on your windscreen could turn into an enemy fighter in the time it took to look round and back again. A little smear on your goggles might hide the plane that was coming in to kill you.

after 4 months of building work I am getting back to appproaching normal so dug out my stuff and started on this 1/48 tamiya zero - beautiful kit , just falls together

I made a mess of the instrument decals , should have used the eduard pe set, so some are hand painted but in normal conditions difficult to spot

light filler is tippex - very little needed

Beautiful work there Jagdtgeswader2! The F-series has always been the best looking of the 109's. I look forward to seeing how it turns out!

Wish I'd known, I sorted some out for people on Britmodeller, did about 10 or 12 of them in total for a fiver, that includes postage and Paypal fees, made 3p per kit on the deal.

Still got myself 5 Stuka 7 109 7 205 and 5 zeros left, though some are semi promised.

BTW check out TK Max too they are selling Revells 1/72 Atlantic for £9.00 the 1/96th Aplollo Columbia Eagle etc for £4.00 and the 1/8th Astronaut for £6.00 and the big 1/32 Apollo and detailed command module for £18, they have the big lander, but my store is out and the huge 4 foot odd saturn 5 for £20 additionally they were selling the detailed open Dalek and Shaun the Sheep and is landrover too...

This was posted on Britmodeller so answers a few questions as to the Hi quality.

Hi guys,

I am happy to see these kits filtering into the UK market at long last.

The 21st Century Toys 1/32nd scale model kits are like my babies. I oversaw development of the original pre painted and preassembled aircraft in that series, and sold the boss on the idea of releasing them as model kits. Decals were drawn by a well known and well respected decal artist, and the printing is by Microscale, so these decals are world class. The pilot figures were mastered by the amazing figure sculptor Mike Good. These are some of the finest pilot figures ever put into a model box.

IIRC correctly there were 5 kits in the initial series:

Bf-109F-2/F-4
Ju-87B Stuka
Macchi C-202 Folgore
F4u-1A/D Corsair
A6M2 Zero Type 11/21

Followed by the next wave, which consisted of

Bf-109G-14
Macchi C.205 Veltro
A6M3 Zero Type 22

There were more kits in the works, but alas, it was not to be. I was let go, along with half the company back in July of last year. The last I heard, they were still in business, but with a tiny staff. No new products have been released in over a year. A few months back a huge amount of stock was clearanced through a online webstore called Monkey Depot. What the future holds for them is unclear. I wish them well... really... you believe me don't you?

The fact that they are selling at such unbelievably low prices makes me a little sad, but I'd recommend you stock up now. The decal run was finite and there are no more coming that I know of.

I am proud of this series of simple kits. The Zero leaves a little to be desired in the accuracy department, but the rest are quite nice, with the Corsair and 109G-14 being really good for the price, IMHO. Lynn Ritger, noted 109 guru, was given his stamp of approval to the 109s and has actually built one or two himself. In fact, all of the box art images are Photoshop composites that I created myself...

Get em while they're hot, gentlemen!

Happy modelling! Roy
