Here is something that I made when I was 9-10 years old. The blade is tool steel, the grip is wound with copper wire, the knuckle bow is brass. The scabbard is copper sheet, covered with notebook paper that was inked with Sharpie, if I remember correctly. The scabbard fittings and chape are sheet copper. The entire scabbard was dipped in lacquer to prevent the whole thing from falling apart over time. Profile

Anyway, I thought that you guys might like to see this:

Not too bad at all. Looks pretty good given the materials made to use it.

Very "Pre-SCAdian" I think Wink

Time for a spammy wip update... I do a great deal of my modeling on the road, which means that big kits don't get worked on (the largest was the Airfix B-29) and I end up having kits ready for paint pile up at home. Still, without further ado:

In Paint:
The Airfix Westland Whirlwind, a nice fitting little kit, a bit lacking in some areas such as bomb racks, but still. I've got the sky band and the gray on the belly so far

Hasegawa Me109G6, another nice little kit. It's ready to be glossed and decalled. I'm debating whether or not to redo the dunklegrun. It turned out more olive than I thought it would, but it may just be the result of using old paint.

Hasegawa MiG27 I'm not sure if this is the exact right Russian Underside Blue, but if it's the WW2 shade, my excuse is that there was all this paint left in the warehouse... Still trying to figure out the shades for the topside brown and dark green

Hasegawa F8, going to do the Marine scheme on this one. I don't care much for spraying gloss, I have a hard time telling coverage and if I'm spraying too heavy. Much rather shoot flat and gloss later. Too, I think the flat offers a better base to weather on, judging from photos I have. The tail cone and a few other areas and then it's ready to gloss.

Ready for Paint:

The Hase F4E needs it's canopy, but otherwise it and the Airfix Me163 are ready to be painted. The Airfix was another sweet little kit. It seems that they either are or they're putty sponges. I'll drill out the cannon ports. The F4 required a bit more effort to clean up the seams, the worst being around the intakes and where the wing meets the forward fuselage underneath. Not bad for an old kit.

Building:

I'm doing the same Monogram P-51 that Crimea River is doing. Going to paint her as 'Detroit Miss'. CR's work on the wheel wells is inspiring to say the least. Here's my modification, which I think approaches 100% accuracy:

This is the first airliner I've done, a 1/300 Zhengdefu (how do you pronounce that?!) 747-400. It's little more than a display model, but it went together nice and has been a lot of fun. If I can find the decals, it will be a Northwest Airlines bird. Otherwise I'll do the United scheme it came with.

The second airliner I've ever done is this Academy 1/144 B-377. Funny kit. Fit is good in some areas, horrid in others. You can see here the trademark erco gear up mod in progress. It will also be a Northwest bird.

My Monogram Panzerspahwagen, 8rad. Coming very close to being the first 1/35 armor kit I'll have ever finished. Fit's been pretty good. The engine compartment is complete conjecture. It'll be done in a Afrika Korp scheme, which I'm going to try and do in such a way to have the sand peeling/worn off exposing the gray underneath. A question for you old hands: Should I add all the little bits and details now, or wait until nearly the end?

Some of the shots aren't that clear, I'm experimenting with using my phone's camera in an attempt to streamline posting pics.

Close the gear doors - now why didn't I think of that! Veryhappy

Looks like you've got quite a bit of painting ahead of you Erco. Do you buy your paint in quarts?

As for the fidley bits, I typically leave these off as my clumsy handling during paint and weatering usually ends of with these things busted off anyway.

Good luck!

Wow you have a lot of concurrent builds!

If I have three going on at the same time I feel spread too thin!

By modeling on the road you mean in hotels/motels? You must have a nice compact and well organized toolkit to be cranking them out like that while on the road.

I'm constantly running upstairs/downstairs for that grade of sandpaper, or the Q-tip, or the toothpick, or the rubbing alcohol, or the blu-tac, or the.....

lads, whats the nicest 1/32 Spitfire MkXIV on the market? Preferably with the malcom hood as opposed to the bubble canopy.

I don't know that there is one. Pacific Coast Models makes a 1/32 Mk. IX that you can convert with this kit into a Mk. XIV.

I see you have been busy Erco! Clap

That Valiant is beautiful Carts! All that work has certainly paid off. bow bow bow

Any progress on the Corsair Buglord?

Well I suffered a setback on my 190 project due to a goof I made with Future. I've now stripped off all the paint and I'm back to square one. Googly I think I'm going to put it aside for a bit and work on my 109G to F conversion. Maybee I can actually finish something then.

A speck of dirt on your windscreen could turn into an enemy fighter in the time it took to look round and back again. A little smear on your goggles might hide the plane that was coming in to kill you.
