Thanks for that Tony it was interesting to spot all the household stuff that went into making that Star Wars inspired masterpiece .What WAS in there apart from the deodorant can lid (and some plastic wrap from a biscuit pack?)

I've been busy on a big project at work which has kept me far away from models and many other things but now it's complete and I have some free time again. I have started back up on my 1/32 Bf 109 F-4 Trop conversion. Maybee I can finish one model a year if I'm lucky. Roll Eyes Anyway on to the pics.

It's been a while since I last updated so I'll recap this project. This is a conversion of a Revell/Hasegawa 1/32 Bf 109 G-4 Trop backdated to a Bf 109 F-4 Trop.

Previous work:

Sawing off the nose of the G-4 was the first step.

Here is the new F-4 nose.

The F-4 had a retractable tail wheel while the G-4 did not. Some cutting and shaping was in order.

Here I've made the fuel door lids and latches from beer can aluminium and brass scrap. Also seen is the new F-4 windscreen frame. Some of this has been revised in the new work I've done.

Current progress.

Dozens of details from the G-4 have been filled in and the fuselage is now completely scribed and ready for cockpit construction. The F-4 was really spartin compared with the other 109's.

Here the G-4 elevator trim tabs have been trimmed down to match the tiny units on the F-4.

The oil cooler has been sectioned in this photo to match the thinner version of the F-4. I used gap filling CA for filler.

Here she is mocked up. Looks like an F-4 to me. Smile Still lots of work to do.

The resin and pe cockpit ready to be built.

Only thing in it is a deodorant cap with a bleach cap inside it, part of a toothpaste cap for little nozzle, 2 rivets, 2 mushroom bits are two bust Cessna panel screws.... back of the right wing tip looking like a RWR aerial is part of a plug pin cover off a household electrical plug. the "crinkly" sheet is the back of embossed tile plasticard, everything else is just plasticard, and various plastirods shaped or otherwise, with a bit of Halfords Aluminium mesh used to repair car wings... masterpiece no, just a furtive imagination and a bit rough and ready, even where drying it with a heatgun i curled some of the plastic on the top, so I painted it rusty to make it look like it was damaged. one day if i get my desks sorted I will do a proper one as have several ideas in me old head Smile

Just build up layers, base was 3 elongated boxes with the sides set in to give a space to run tubing down, centre one was curved at front and tubes extended to link front, drill holes in em to run stuff out of, most of it gets layered over so gets so buried, detail does not matter as you cannot see it all, just glimpses.....

I took pics of unfinished bottom to show how simple it really is to do... Add a really beaten up paint job with depth and it gives it a 3d life..... just let your imagination out of the box, I was trying to do a ship with all the skin panels removed for access and showing its age..

Hope it helps.

As for the rest of you, you're probably thinking WTF is he on about?????????

Glad to hear from you too mate! Hope things are going well. Any projects in the making? I've taken off a few days just to work on the 109 so I'll have some more pics to show soon. Might even sneak in a little IL-2 time. Cool
After I get this one completed I hope to start on either the big Ju 88 or a P-39 in Russian markings. Not decided on which one just yet.

Can't wait to see all those beauties! You can never have too many 109's I always say. Unless they happen to be on your six that is! Big Grin

And now a very small 109 update. The cockpit is now in various stages of paint and should be ready for assembly soon. I also got the resin wheels cleaned up and scribed. While I was at it I flattened the tires a bit too. Also the Revell trop filter was modified to fit the Aires supercharger scoop. Once the cockpit goes in I'll just need to do a little detailing in the wheel wells and she will be ready for paint.

The filter provided in the Aires kit is in the open position. I wanted it closed so I put a bit of metal tubing inside the Revell/Hase part and slid a piece of rubber tube on it. It acts like a cork in a bottle. This should make painting easier as I won't have to mask around it now.
