Sigh.....

I wish you hadn't done that. The question of Iraq is for another place and another time. I'm talking about something I and my family lived through and with. If you'd like to discuss Iraq with me, PM me and I'll share my thoughts, but please lets keep on topic.

I understand. My family and I lived through it too. We still do, every day. I will never see my son-in-law again.

You wont be seeing these boards for a few days either.

Indifferent

Iraq does not belong in this thread.

Just because the current administration used 9/11 as an excuse to launch that war does not warrant you tarnishing the memory of those who died on that day who are memorialized in this thread.

Two different issues.. inspite of what the loose change believers might say.

Considering that you lost a son in law you should know better or at the very least be considerate of the feelings of others who may not share your opinions on 9/11.

SHAME ON YOU

Upon your return if you want to start a thread about iraq and it doesnt get stupid fast so be it, but this thread is not the place.

I remember feeling helpless. That and an overwhelming desire to leave work and get my daughters from their elementary school and be with them. But I couldn't leave even though working seemed meaningless then. Family seemed even more important to me that day. I know that sounds selfish considering the events but it was on my mind as that uncertain day evolved.

I hope whatever God each of us worships looks out for those lost that day. Frown

I was in the ready room on the Enterprise getting prepared for a later flight. Somebody called down to the ready room and told us to turn on the TV. We were off the coast of Oman and on our way home after 5 months at sea, the last two of which were in the gulf. Within an hour we were turned around and pointing towards pakistan. Within a month we were bombing afghanistan.

Let's not forget those few innocent victims either, who came out alive from the towers, but bear the horrible scars of the burning jet fuel rain for life.

Going to ground zero and being allowed to go to the memorial that was off limits to the general public was one of the most humbling experiences I've ever had.

I was allowed because I was in uniform- Fleet Week NYC '04.

My son was only small at the time and I was enjoying a rest on the sofa while he took an afternoon nap. The program I was watching was interrupted with a news flash so it was immediately evident something serious was wrong but I never expected what I was about to see. At that point only the first plane had hit, but it wasn’t long before the second was in camera shot and we all watched the second hit and the events that followed. I know I was among the many billions around the world watching it all unfold through the hours that followed in shear disbelief.

Thoughts to those who lost loved ones that day but also as rnzoli said thoughts for those who may have survived the day but still have to deal with its effects either physical or emotional every day since.

R.I.P the deceased of 9/11
My thoughts are also with the people they left behind.

I was in college when it happened.
I remember coming home and my Dad opening the door saying something like "planes have hit New York and The Pentagon, the World Trade Centre is gone". I remember thinking that someone had sent over some bombers and they had dropped bombs on New York and on the Pentagon, when I saw what had actually happened I felt physically sick.
I remember that everyone was unusually quiet in college the day after, and most conversations were about what would happen in what was then the near future. There was a genuine sense of fear that we would all get conscripted and have to fight, it sounds like silly talk now but when you are 17 like myself and my mates were, the possibility seemed to be very real.

Long as I remember The rain been comin' down.
Clouds of myst'ry pourin' Confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, Tryin' to find the sun;
And I wonder, Still I wonder, Who'll stop the rain.
