 Dodge is bringing back its street legal track car after a 7 year absence and they mean business. The new Viper ACR is meaner than ever and as with any Viper, needs to be handled with care. In 1999 Dodge introduced the Dodge Viper ACR (American Club Racer) after noticing the success of the Neon ACR. The overall deisgn was basically the same as a normal Viper with a few key differences. They added about 10 horsepower by applying a K&N Air Filter and dropped 60 lbs by removing the audio components, air conditioning and fog lamps(which were replaced by brake cooling ducts). Dodge also threw in a few extra badges and decals so everyone would know you had an ACR. The 2008 Viper ACR will make its debut at the LA Auto Show next week. Under the hood will be the standard all aluminum 8.4 liter V10. It will produce close to 600 horsepower to the rear wheels and over 550 ft-lbs of torque. The package will also bring some aero-upgrades as well as suspension adjustments to cope with the 1.5g cornering is it said to produce. The main focus while building the new ACR was weight reduction, which comes mostly from the simple fact the 600 horsepower is enough.....for now. The were able to save a total of 40 lbs between upgraded tires and wheels, brakes and suspension components. Dodge will also offer a "hard-core" package which will remove another 40lbs, along with your audio components some sound dampening and you trunk liner. Production is said to start between April and June and the price is quoted at "less than $100,000." With a base coupe running in the $87,000 range, it might and up costing a few pennies shy of the 6 digit mark. Esel... Those Viper's are quite the vehicle... saw a new Challanger this past weekend and it's a very sharp looking ride. And with a Hemi under it should move along very nicely.

The GR-1 is a NICE looking ride;impressive specs too! Very nice.
 I haven't seen one 'in the flesh' yet,but the more I see that new Challenger in pics,the more I like it. The Camaro's having the opposite effect. I love to restore old machines. Many machines are scrapped because of broken castings, or parts cost more than a working machine is worth. I knew of several machines that could be had for little more than the time spent to recover them...If only I could produce iron castings. After some research, I found that iron could be easily melted in a cheaply built shaft-furnace called a "cupola". With this in mind, broken machines that had been junk, were now viable restoration projects. This old generator set was restored with home made castings. Esel... Never hear of a Thermador before. Sounds like a good idea... but like most of those gagets they sell on the TV. A waste of time and money.
 The Thermador used water-soaked fabric that was rotated into the unit's air stream to deliver cool air through the window opening  It is available in 6 through 14 cylinder versions, all are inline engines. These engines were designed primarily for very large container ships. Ship owners like a single engine/single propeller design and the new generation of larger container ships needed a bigger engine to propel them. The cylinder bore is just under 38" and the stroke is just over 98". Each cylinder displaces 111,143 cubic inches (1820 liters) and produces 7780 horsepower. Total displacement comes out to 1,556,002 cubic inches (25,480 liters) for the fourteen cylinder version. Some facts on the 14 cylinder version: Total engine weight: 2300 tons (The crankshaft alone weighs 300 tons.) Length: 89 feet Height: 44 feet Maximum power: 108,920 hp at 102 rpm Maximum torque: 5,608,312 lb/ft at 102rpm Fuel consumption at maximum power is 0.278 lbs per hp per hour (Brake Specific Fuel Consumption).
