Esel... It's good to hear your doing better... and keep those leg's raised. That will help out with the fluid.

That Skirosky Flying Boat was a real beauty... it was hard to get snap shots because of it's size. It must have been quite the ride in one of those Flying Boats in those day's.

Esel... It's Cash & Carry only... although we are planning a drive-up window soon. Big Grin

Has your Doc fitted you out with some TED socks yet? Sometimes a little hard too get use to at first... but they'll help out a lot in the long run.

In June 1916 the prototype, N500, went to Naval 'A' Fighting Squadron at Fumes in France for service trials. The Triplane was a success from the start and was ordered by both the R.F.C. and R.N.A.S. It was destined to be flown operationally by naval units only; the R.F.C.. who had already received a present of the first sixty R.N.A.S. Spad S.7s. decided in February 1917 to accept the remaining sixty in exchange for the Sopwith Triplanes on order for the Corps.

No. 1 (Naval) Squadron, 'Naval One', went into action with the type in April 1917. in support of the hard-pressed R.F.C. The hitherto very successful Albatros D-III was completely outclassed, and Id Flieg. the German Inspectorate of Flying Troops, received a severe shock. The 'Tripehound' tould out-climb and out-turn the Albatros, and was 15 m.p.h faster. Naval Eight and Naval Ten, equipped in April and May. also made their presence felt. Proof of the Triplane's worth was soon to hand. In April 1917 Flight Commander R. S. Dallas and Flight Sub-Lieutenant T. G. Culling attacked a formation of fourteen German aircraft. After forty-five minutes they had shot down three of the enemy and driven the remainder into retreat.

Woofie-Your thoughts of TED's was going to be the next step, could still be.

While I was anemic,I stopped taking my blood pressure medicine(one of which, was part diuretic),Only a little blood=little blood pressure.

Now that my hemoglobin is returning to normal(getting close),and my albumen level is normal(effects the blood vessel's osmotic pressure-for instance, when I was ultra-low on albumen-was allowing blood to flow across the vessel walls, hence, the spontaneous internal bleeding.

The doc feels with normal albumen, and 2 different diuretics, give it a few days;it did seem a little better today.

Thanks for your concern,M8

Great Sopwith stuff, thanks for sharing.Great Fifth Army Mother's Day V-mail too.

wayno7777... Good to hear from you... glad you enjoyed the snap shots.

Although it was an older design than the Model 299 which eventually emerged as the B-17 and carried an earlier military designation, the XB-15 made its first flight two years later. The XB-15 (serial number 35-277) made its first flight on October 15, 1937 with Eddie Allen at the controls. At the time of its appearance, it was the largest and heaviest aircraft yet to be built in the United States.

The XB-15 proved to be seriously underpowered with the R-1830 radials. Because of its low performance as compared to later aircraft, the XB-15 was never ordered into production, and the prototype was the only example to be built.

Following the completion of the tests, the XB-15 was turned over to the 2nd Bomb Group in August of 1938. In spite of the fact that the aircraft was seriously underpowered for its size, it did manage to set several world records for weight carrying, including a 71,167-pound payload lifted to 8200 feet on July 30, 1939 and a payload of 4409 pounds carried over a distance of 3107 miles at 166 mph.

In 1943, the sole XB-15 was converted into a cargo carrier by adding cargo doors and a hoist. The aircraft was redesignated XC-105. The gross weight increased to 92,000 pounds. The XC-105 was scrapped at Kelly Field, Texas shortly before the end of the war.

Two service test models of the XB-15 were ordered under the designation Y1B-20. In an attempt to provide more power, these planes were to have been powered by 1400 hp Pratt & Whitney R-2180 radials. However, they were cancelled before anything could be built.
