Needed to build to Museum Quality a certain very rare 1/48th Scale Model WWII British Fighter, must be able to scratch build to high standards of accuracy...

If Modesty won't do it, how about asking Low_Flyer instead?
And when he's done, he can make a Windwhirler for me... |

Hi L_F
Just got me a certain Classic Airframes Westland Whirlwind off Ebay that I want built up, but it also needs some scratch building work to model certain detailing that I have found through my research for Magpies Whirly. This model will have to be altered to show this detailing, making it the most accurate yet and seeing as these kits are hard to find, I want it made right first time... Any ideas who I might ask? U.K. resident? Mr Buglord or Mr Carts do nice work. I'm not sure on the nationality of some of the other chaps.
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/foru...1013236/m/1381087797 I'm sure some talented chap will sing out soon. Now if it was a dirtied-up Russki tank you were after... ...but I'm afraid my heavy-handed technique and propensity for glue-fingerprints on perspex would let the side down in this particular case. L_F, just read what I posted last night, it sounds terrible...
I know the model has been reviewed a couple of times all ready and would like to think that it would be nice to see the build from start to finish, especially with the 'new' modifications... The kit I understand is not for the faint hearted, so I wouldn't even attempt to make it myself, but would rather pass it on to someone with the skill to do it justice... I've seen pics of that kit before (surprise!) - can't figure out why they make the seperate red roundel on the decal sheet, could understand if Whirly saw Far Eastern service. Just seems like making more work for its' own sake to me. Maybe someone could enlighten me.
Put a call out in the model planes thread, old chum - I'm sure you'll find directions if not a willing and able volunteer. I am toying with the idea of obtaining a few Airfix Whirlies and mass producing an instant collection that could sit amongst my Corgi Spits. Also sorely tempted to get a few plastic heavies to keep the Wellie company - diecast Lancs & Halifaxes are prohibitively expensive if you can find one - and the Airfix Stirling is the only game in town. As ever it's all down to time and available workspace. And my perspexophobia, if I'm honest. Out of interest, what colour scheme do you envisage for the 1/48? Straight out of the box over Dieppe, or a favourite alternative? Still aspiring the pewter Whirly - one fine day, when I've had a good day at the races. http://www.pewteraircraft.com/...RLWIND/Whirlwind.htm "I was working on this skin for a week, and you post a picture of a damn turd right in my thread!" |

Hi mate, a nest of Whirlies eh!
Shame James May didn't have a hankering for a 1/1 Scale Airfix Whirly instead of the Spitfire, now that would have been really something... I must admit I've looked at the pewter one myself, but always thought in the end I'd much prefer the Air Classics Whirly, it was a shame the 1/8th alluminium one didn't come off, curse of the Whirly again I suppose... I'd never noticed the roundel issue before, it might just be something as simple as it was easier to print them that way, didn't they change the thickness of the Yellow roundel at some point? The Airfix Stirling looks a beast of a model, to see and make, again I'm not starting model making again, the last model I made was Tamiya 1/8 - 1/6 WWII Zundapp or BMW... His mother said to mine once how her son had such a wonderful collection of models and how they were always so detailed... Oh happy days... Which would I like, the top one, it's camo looks a lot more menacing than the others I've seen... Here's the newest review... http://www.hyperscale.com/2009.../whirlwind48cg_1.htm This message has been edited.
