I went to my brother's funeral today, and for reasons I'm still trying to grasp,it was the first time I've ever cried in public.
I've been at plenty of relative's funerals,and I was rock-solid.But for some reason I can't somehow grasp,I broke down.

From his obit.:Rodney Jack Owens Sr., 60, of Riesel, passed from this earth into the arms of his Lord and Savior Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009. Rodney was born May 8, 1949, to Carl "Pat" Owens and Ruth Jeanette "Jan" Jones Grant. As a young man, Rodney served in the Navy as well as the Army National Guard. He worked as a police officer and highway patrolman in several areas across the state before serving as the Chief of Police in Moody. He was the recipient of the First Master Peace Officer Certificate. He later worked for AAFES and was stationed in Hungary before retiring to a life of farming and raising cattle with his beloved wife, Brigette. R.I.P. my brother!!!

I am so sorry Mike and Lori. I don't even have the words, but please know this. At breakfast this morning I said a prayer for you and your family, as I always do, before I checked my mail today. You two are very important to me and it really hurts me to see you go through such a loss. Like you, I have only cried once in public and this was at my maternal grandmother's funeral. We were very close. I have lost several close friends, and for whatever reason, I was able to hold back the tears, but I cry for them plenty when I am alone. My wife even said that this was the only time she ever saw me so emotional.
I will try to call you today if that's OK.

Bradley

Thanks so much my friends(all of you who posted),your condolences mean alot, and are greatly appreciated.
He was a Class III FFL holder,so,I know he's standing with St. Peter at the gates to Heaven with his favorite BAR,and Tommy gun-holding back the demons that seem to be popping up so frequently today(that's as far as I'll go with that in order to remain apolitical).

As the obit. says,he was the first person in Texas to hold Master Peace Officer certification. He served 16 yr. in the Tx. D.P.S.(highway patrol-which was a path to being a Texas Ranger, which was his dream),and served a Chief of Police in 2 cities before retiring.
But,I'm sure old Jack Hays(a TX. Ranger in the Indian war days) has pinned him with the Ranger badge he so highly desired, and deserved.

He was also a Ranger in the National Guard,the day they did their 5 qualification para-jumps(3 from a C-130,1 from a Huey,and 1 from a C-141)
was 'family day',so we got to see that. The Jumpmasters were like bulldogs and made them run everywhere, one poor guy ran up literally missing an ear on one side because he was mis-dropped and came down in a thick forest, and a tree ripped his ear completely off,I was about 13 and that was a trip to see-the amazing thing is this guy got bandaged up and kept going.Eventhough people call them 'citizen soldiers',they're still tough,at least if they earn the Ranger patch.

Again,a sincere thanks to everyone here, and let's have a round of Kamikazes for the house,on me.

But on a lighter note.

If anyone's near Waco,TX,I'm trying to organize a Mobster's Ball for those into the 20's-30's prohibition mobster years.
The one in San Francisco looks like a blast, and I'm gonna try to recreate one here.
I intend on inviting local law enforcement(esp. the Texas Rangers, who have a headquarters here-since they brought down Bonnie and Clyde),and putting up/passing out flyers.
I've got people ready to put out flyers and bring friends as far as 100 mi. away.

I just need to find a restaurant with interior from that era preferably, arrange a band to play music of the era(with a little modern stuff thrown in,so people don't get burnt out on the old stuff)and tie up some other ends, and I'm ready to go.
I don't have any dates yet,but when I do I'll let y'all know.
So,start dusting off your vintage suits and/or dresses I'm determined to pull this off.
And I know it'll be cheaper than the San Fran. Mob Ball(80.00),I thinking I can do it for half that easy, which would include venue rental, band, hopefully food, and maybe a keg of brau.Other drinks would be on the individual,I'll be sure to have a bar available.

My condolences Esel, I only just logged in here and my time is limited of late, but I was saddened to here of your loss.

I have two brothers (that I know of) and I bubbled like a baby at my wife's uncles funeral despite having never met the man, and yet maitained my composure at my own aunts.

Emotions are unpredictable but its better to embrace them than fight them I find.

God speed

tHeBaLrOgRoCkS-Many thanks for your kind words of encouragement.

Does anyone have any good ideas for things I can do to make my Mobster's Ball(still unscheduled) better and more authentic, even if you're not in driving range,I'd appreciate it to make as much fun as possible.
I guess I'm trying to absorb myself in this,to take my mind all the chaos around me(my brother's death,my Father's been paralyzed for 18 yr.,and my wife's dad doesn't have long with us,as he's eaten up with cancer all over his body),I need something to pour my energies into, and occupy my mind.
So,please,if you've got any good ideas, either PM me or post them,as I'd appreciate the thoughts.

I still find myself ending up melancholy, due to the latest blow,so forgive my "sad" music.I hope you enjoy it even if it's not the happiest of tunage.
