What do you think, LF? (Can I also draw the attention of readers to my earlier 'Boeing 71-B' drawing here) |

It is a pluasible design. It would spin out though at low speeds.

Looks like something that would be in Crimson Skies.

Hum, methinks the CG will be too far forward. I'm going to have to turn the engines round, move them back a bit, and fit pusher props.
It also needs more side area aft of the CG, so I'll extend the fuselage back a few feet, and enlarge the fin. Only trouble is, it will look less like its illustrious ancestor. The test pilot is insisting on an ejector seat, and I think he may have a point - those props could give him a nasty whack if he was to jump.... |

It looks the most pluasible right now, considering that you think that it is front heavy, well, the engines and wing are in the back, with the engines going forward; it looks correct now. Give me the lengh and witdth and the wieght and the aspect ratio and whatever els you have an I will calculate the CoG. The only thing it needs improvment on is the pilot needs a ladder to get to his cockpit, the forward stabilzers would be better swept, and the tailfin needs to be extended. The forward stabilizers shoiuld also have vertical fins at teh ends. I draw aircraft designs all day at school, then when I get home I make scale models out of whatever. I have made designs like this before. Being British is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, then grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way home, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV. |

Actually, judging by the its looks, I'd say it has a low aspect ratio. Not as low as...lets say a concord.

I'm not really sure where the CG should be in a canard, but I'd guess that it would be around the mainplane leading edge with a layout like this.
In case anyone thinks this is utterly bonkers, I refer them to the Miles Libellula: |

Let's not say "a concord". Or if you mean something else but the plane "Concorde" (yes, a Capital C, and an e at the end), ignore this comment. Second, that wing is definitely not a low-aspect ratio wing. An easy way to calculate aspect ration is: wingspan^2 / wing area = aspect ratio which gives the Whirlwind (or Whindwirl..windwhilrerer.. whatever) a ratio of 8.18, which is pretty high for a WWII fighter. Some planes, e.g. F6F (5.50), P-47 (5.53), Tempest (5.57), A6M (5.63-6.43), Fw 190 (6.04), etc. had a much lower aspect ratio. Only WWII fighter with a higher aspect ratio than Whirly might be the P-38, with 8.26. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Redguys Air Racing Team Member A4 www.simairracing.com "The fastest pilots of the online world..." |
