A ten minute clip from a documentry series shown on UK TV a number of years back. In the clip, Gen. Brian Horrocks gives an enthusiastic description of the first raid carried out by the SAS.

Indeed, Mr Smedley. That old Chinese curse 'May you live in interesting times' springs to mind.

Now here's a related thing....

I've just has a right royal ding-dong on my doorstep with a smarmy little oik demanding to compare my electricity tarrif with his company's.

Bearing in mind I'd promised myself that I was going to rip the throat out of the next utility salesman who knocked my door (I get several per week sometimes) he got off quite lightly...as I informed him while he scuttled down the path, his i.d card flapping in his wake.

At the start of our little debate, he really couldn't see the irony of trying to sell me Scottish electricity on the south Dorset coast and seemed flabbergasted when I told him that actually no, he wasn't going to read my meter. He even had the nerve to try and frighten me by invoking the 'law', as if his i.d. card granted him access to my bills and supply. I mentioned I might know more about the law than him and showed him my (expired) i.d. card (I still carry it in my wallet - go figure), telling him to p*ss off, and fixing him with my locally legendary Paddington death stare.

This little episode has made me grouchy for the rest of the day. Thank you so much Thatcher and Co for selling off my nation's assets and giving me the opportunity to put up with this cr@p. GRRRRRRRR!

I'm off to put some early Clash on at full whack before I go out and menace some chavs tonight. Angry

Dude, I don't think I understand a single word of what you just said.

's funny how not many of the wonderful 'advances' made by '79 - 97' incumbents actually never left anyone 'better off' in any real sense. Will anyone ever realise that free-market capitalism doesn't actually work in the long run?

Arrgh...3 times I've tried to watch that now and each time it gave me the old "something went wrong, try later." Conspiracy?

I don't think they worry about the long run Brando. The quick buck is king, sadly.
