I think if celebrities are saying we need government paid health care, they need to ante up and pay for it out of their overpaid salaries.

I'm really confused as to what this video is trying to get across. Is it for or against socialized health care?

Is it satire or are these people honestly for real?

I think HayateAce needs a hug. People who need health care might get health care! That would be horrible.

This is not the way to get people who need health care to get it. It's not the government's job to provide care to people or otherwise be their nanny. That isn't what Jefferson, Madison, Paine and the other founders had in mind when they started this country. It lowers the quality of health care, starts rationing and causes you to wait in line for weeks or months if you want to see the doctor. The government needs to keep their noses out.

You know what else they didn't have in mind? Economic imperialism and waging wars half a world away. They also wanted a clearly defined separation between church and state and wanted the supreme court to be apolitical.

I think it's funny when you people cite what the "founders" wanted when your dogma is centered around concepts that would appall them to the core. The day that I see you decry the recent actions of the Republican party and the Bush administration is the day that you earn the right to speak for them.

You don't pick and choose. That is the epitome of hypocrisy.

Well, obviously, when they founded the country, clocks were running a bit differently, aye?

What's "good" 200 yrs ago doesn't necessaryly be good today.

Mortoma, a practical example of how 'government provided' health care works. I am currently on prescription drugs, and needed a renewal of the prescription, It was about time I saw my GP again anyway, so I phoned the practice up a couple of days ago to arrange an appointment. I could probably have seen her the same day if I had phoned early enough, but there was no urgency so they suggested next Tuesday afternoon, which suited me fine. The doctor's surgery is part of a joint practice, in a new purpose-built building, about 15 minutes walk from where I live. When I arrive, I may have to wait maybe 15 minutes beyond the intended appointment time if I'm unlucky, but I will read one of the aviation magazines in reception while I wait, so this is no great issue for me.

My GP has always been helpful, sympathetic, and willing to explain things like side-effects of drugs so I can make an informed decision about treatment. Though no doubt if I could pay for it I might find a doctor in private practice who could provide equal care, I see no reason to think it would be any better.

I am fortunate enough to only ever needed out-patient care in hospitals, but from what my friends and family have experienced, the system is on the whole efficient at providing the medical care needed, given the resources allocated. Of course there are problems, as with any large organisation, but much of these seem currently due to the government trying to use 'private sector' management techniques inappropriately, in a misguided attempt to cut costs.

While it was not me, a coworker had to deal with nationalized health care in The Netherlands. He was sick and had a sore throat, and coughing. The local doctor prescribed him Xanax, a anxiety pill so he could get some sleep. The Dutch pay between 40 and 50% in taxes. Is this really something we need here?

I didn't read the full article, but why would celebrities have anything to say about health care in the first place?
When you have the income that the average celebrity has, health care is a non issue.
The health care issue is founded on the basis that not all Americans have access to it, which is really true anyway.
The only people really in trouble, as far as health care goes, right now are the Americans with no insurance who make enough money that they don't qualify for medical assistance, and cannot afford medical care.
Before my wife was a nurse, and after I was released from the Army, I was the only one covered under my VA medical insurance. Fortunately we are now all covered under her policy.
I know what it's like not to have insurance. It's not the end of the world, and we still took our children to the doctor when it was necessary, just not every time the child gets a cold. I can see the "health care for every one" being abused quite a bit.
I really don't want to wait weeks for an appointment after the health care system is flooded with people who all of a sudden need care.

So you're insisting they're paying those 50% for health-insurance only? Veryhappy
