You might have a great deal of fun with the mods. I was deeply into this item and the mods a few years ago. The snag---PE never ran OK with my computer---my graphics card was toxic to the software. The modders are, unfortunately, like most modders, completely solipsistic---took them about two years and after much teeth gnashing on the forum by the puzzled users for them to announce the existence of this "little" problem. Truth to tell, T-34 VS TIGER and the 1942 T-34 sim due to be released this year blow away PE, and, hopefully, will be far easier to install and use. What did if for me was a scenario in which two Tiger Is hit my flank in Tunisia. I had a line of about six pathetic M4s. The Kitties rumbled right over a low rise and were about 100 yards away right on my perishing flank. IRL this situation would have ended in about two minutes with six crackling M4s. I hurridly tried to shift my M4s to shoot the Pussers---they obliged and, for the most part, sat still! I was "gifted" with the time to completely redeploy my M4s behind cover! From there we blew up both of the Tigs with our pathetic short 75s firing at the front plates of the Cats. I posted a stunned commentary on this on the mods forum. Head modder's reply: user subjectivity! Frisbeed right into the trash bin. Computer cretins!!!!!!

Ya PE has it's shortcomings for sure but it has a whole lot to offer too. Especially for an old game! Lots of things they did right on it.

I am for sure going to check out these new games you mention. I love tank sims and just hope the developers get all the nice details right especially the interior graphics and proper gunnery systems.

Pss.. you guys throw away old games much to quick. That situation is almost exactly what I had with BOBWOV. I was going to do the very same thing!

I kept the game and am now very glad I did. It has been improved by leaps and bounds!

Looking foeward to trying those new tank games though.

When PE modded worked, it was good, but compared to STEEL FURY and T-34 VS TIGER, it was from need. Honestly, the modders were a bunch of self-admiring schnooks, and reading endless self-congratulatory posts from them to each other wore thin quick! Try the demos:

You also apparently didn't see I mention the dated graphics more then a few times. This is for your kind to avoid this post and go directly to the "Barbie Dream Machine" site which has much better graphics..

managed to load some wonderful new missions into the game last night that lovers of the game developed. One was a attack on a village in Russia in the snow. Our Platoon was making good progress till we met a Russian road block loaded with Russian soldiers and At guns. What a battle!

Don't have any picture of it because it was so brutal..

I will tell you fighting in Russia in the snow is brutal just as it was in real life!

These pictures look pretty good to me stalkervision, not bleeding edge but pretty good. I might check the game out, especially since T vs T isn't going to be released until April at the earliest.

Also, the early reviews at Sim HQ and Lighthouse of the Russian version aren't super positive. It sounds like it's going to need several patches to get the game up to snuff.

Anybody have any news on the Steel Fury release date?

Not to bad huh..? This is the "ostapack" mod with the Russian winter campaign modeled. It is a totally excellent mod. Lots of new missions! Lots and lots of real nice free improvements to the game have been made besides this too!

There is also a new graphics engine mod that apparenty makes the graphics even better. I have this mod running well so I am not going to tinker with that just yet..

Just make sure you follow the instructions in doing it. Buy the game. Patch it to version 1.2 (other higher versions don't work with ostapak!) and then download the basic ostpak mod. From there you won't believe what you can put on the game.
