Panzer Elite was produced by WingsSimulations with Psygnosis as the publisher. Psygnosis was sold to Sony. WingsSimulations was sold to JoWooD. JoWooD bought Panzer Elite back from Sony. Panzer Elite Special Edition was released. WingsSimulations was closed after the relase of Soldner. The Panzer Elite name was given to Zootfly and they produced Panzer Elite Action (before WingsSimulations was closed). Modders of Panzer Elite stuck with there loyalty to the original game released in 1999.

The history has been a pain for all of us.

And please recognize that I had nothing to do with Ostpak. I worked with PEDG in the creation of Brit44. Myself and a few others have continued to develop the PE game engine as we learn computer programming.

BobR and I have an agreement to be cordial and help each other when we have time for the common hobby 'PE' that we share. Other then that, our interest in PE lies 'along differing lines'.

Well just ordered Panzer Elite Special Edition... hope it's the right one that works with the Ostpak & PEDG addons. Was checking out the two sites and was amazed at the amount work that has been done at these sites. Some of these addons look like a game by themself's.

One question about these two addons [Ostpak & PEDG]... can they be run together or do you need to set-up separate copy's of the game to run these?

Finally taking the plunge huh woofie? Cool You had better ask the experts here about patch advice. I often screw the order of the downloads patches up and then get into all kinds of trouble.. Sad

when I do I do a fresh install of PE and then the 1.2 patch. Then I reload the game improvement patches.

Now that i think of it I hope they are watching this thread to advize us both which downloads to run and in what order..

I'm a slow learner you know.. Big Grin

what i do know is the game patches go into a "mods enabler " where you pick what mods to try at the time. The order that these mods should be enabled often screws me up though.. Sad

One thing I will say is first run the original game as is to get yourself aquainted with how the game runs and how to operate the tank and wingmen functions and then go for the patches when you know the basic game better. Wink2

You will get more expericance in survival of your tank and crew that way before you jump into the bigger challanges the mods offer.

remember this unlike other tank sims PE is about "combined arms tactics" Not just your single particular tank.

Pick your crew and your wingmens crews carefully because they will depend on you and you them with your lives.

Use your artillary to soften up your opponents. Also especially use the land features in the game to all total advantage,

The little booklet that comes with the game is worth it's weight in gold about actual tank tactics.

Read it before you go into combat! Cool

Tigers and Panthers..

Remember to always look for infantry so you can "button up" before you are shot by them while looking for enemy tanks.

Looking for tanks and At guns is the most important thing and require you to be outside the tank 80% of the time with binoculars but when attacking a defended infantry position or under enemy artillary fire you had better close the hatch!

The Panzer Elite Special edition is the correct version.
First you install the game like any other, then download the latest Patch1.2 available on the PEDG site.

To add in a mod you need to click on the 'Mod enabler', a program that adds a mod to PE and then can remove it, using an Enable switch. This Mod enabler comes with the game and is activated using a shortcut icon. When you download a mod and unzip it, its title will appear in the left hand window together with all available mods previously installed. Any mod you enabled is displayed in the right hand window.

There are a few different mods available for PE, all them incompatable. Hence you use the Mod enabler to try one or the other.
The popular ones are:
1: Panzer pack 2- favoured by Multiplayers online
2. Monty vs Rommel - Desert 41-42
3. Torch - Tunisia 42-43
4. Brit 44 - Normandy British scenarios
5. Ostpak - east front expansion and basic PE mod

In Januray 2008 I put together a new PE zip called Panzer Elite Three. This mod combines Ostpak, MVR, and Brit 44 into one package.
This amalgamation was largely made possible by the work done by Aldo with the PE code and released as PE X, plus as much of the available AFV graphic improvements as possible.

Note the PE3 mod is in its Beta stage and may not meet the standards of demanding consumers. However, it can be disenabled with the Mod enabler if it does not work satisfactory for you.

Lets clarify a few more things.

The pex engine was developed with parts of the Brit44 mod, and it is only recently we tried to incorporate it with the ostpak mod. We indentified the basic problems and before further testing was compleated, Bob incorporated all mods and pex into one install. ( a noble goal, but a move ahead of progress )

I know of 2 issues in PE3 that send the engine into nowhere land of the users virtual memory. Users will not see a crash unless this section of memory is in use by another program. When it does crash, there is no usable feadback. My only hope is to try and replicate the exact install and exact crash while using a debug version of the code. Considering that known bugs need to be attention also, I find it impracticle to give tech support for PE3.

Bob continues to promote a compelation that is impracticle for me to debug. Yes it works for most and shows what is possible. But lets face it, if it's not easy to use and stable the average user will experiance only frustration and will only return after 9 years of no other alternative.

I obviously do not have the managerial skills to explain the code statis to an experianced PE modder. I also have personal reservations against working along a non liniar beta.

I have respect for everything Bob has done and continues to try and do for PE. I simply want to temper any reader's expectations from this thread.

Wink I also want to scream at the top of my lungs how frustrated I am with Bob's efforts to push the engine past it's current capabilities. He must have been a F1 driver in a former life lol.

all I know is I appreciate both your efforts greatly and everyone elses efforts that have improved on the basic game. bow

You both deserve the PE "Knight's Cross"! Cool

Has it got some bugs? Yup but I will continue to play it anyway because I haven't found anything yet that offers as much raw fun and excitment as it does while teaching one in a very personal manner a whole lot about basic tank warfare tactics..

Buggy? Yes. Anything better right now? No. In future? Maybe. Heres hoping.
