It seems to me that there are two possible explanations for this video:
(a) It is a fake. This would not be particularly surprising, there are a lot of badly-made spoof videos about. (b) It is genuine. If this is so, I think it says as much about the state of the US education system as it does about attitudes to religion: '..how come you look African?...'. After hearing that I decided that if it was for real, the young woman was so lacking in basic knowledge of the world that her views on anything were of no real interest to me. I stopped watching. |

As a product of the US education system, I don't find that terribly surprising. I remember people in school that couldn't find Canada on a map and didn't know that the US was originally a British colony. For people to not know that India is in Asia is really not much of a stretch. I wish that weren't the case, but there are truly people that are that ignorant. |

I don't know, the bit in the title called "don't let the devil win" is disturbing. So is the rest of the video actually. Perhaps she thinks they all chuck spears at each other as well. ------------------------------------------------------------ "Of all lovers perhaps none is more unrequited than a liberal humanist. Same thoughts here. As there was no way I could actually slap them, I stopped watching after a couple of minutes too. *********************************************** "Nineteen years of age, eight years public education, three years military service. Intelligent, normally observant and answered all questions freely. He was arrogant and proud to be a pilot. Fellow prisoners in hospital consider him mentally unstable." |

I tend not to talk about my faith. Its a private thing, and I would never feel the need to try to 'convert' someone.
Needless to say you are all doomed! |

For some reason I get a server error when attempting to open that link. That aside I completly agree about catholic church involvement. But then again I see the catholic church more like a political mover instead of a religious one anyways. edit: checked that link. All I can post in response is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STlYN5KCiWg |

While I will talk about my religion to anyone who is curious I agree about conversion. In my religion the closest thing we have to "sin" is to pervert someones free will, which evangelism falls well into that category. Of course be available to teach the curious, otherwise no religion would be able to grow or at least sustain itself, but to go out and actively try to convince others of what their spiritual path should be, it's disgusting to me. While I have my personal issues with some aspects of mainstream christianity (and by that I mean the typical kind you would find in most churches, which is not to be confused with any REAL spiritual followers of christ if you get my meaning), the biggest issue I have is the large number of people who follow it out of sheer ignorance of other options! A great deal of people (not by any means all, of course there are also a great number of people who have strong faith in christ for the right reasons) are christians by default, meaning that they were raised that way or that that's all that was ever presented to them. It makes me sad to think of all the people who may be missing out on a truly fulfilling spiritual life (not meaning MY path of course, I would never be that arrogant despite how I may seem on these boards sometimes, lol) simply because they don't know that there are other paths that may be more suited to them and they end up missing out because they've been told all their lives by everyone around them that there is only one true path and that everything else is of the devil. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flying online as NORAD_Shinjiro |

Wow, just had a chance to watch that and loved it. That is the number one reason why I could never get into organized religion, I never bought into the idea of having some guy sitting between me and the divine interpreting for me, and the whole thing set up to keep those guys in buisness.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flying online as NORAD_Shinjiro |

She has a right to proselytize if she wants to. There's nothing disturbing about it. The main character may be pushy but she has the right to be that way too if she wants. She has the right to feel strongly about whatever she wants to.
She never literally forced anything on anyone. Just used very heated persuasion. And in the end the Indian girl did not convert anyway. What's wrong with what a little healthy debate? Do I agree with the method?? Not really, a Christian should convert by example and being the way Christ was. Christ was not like that if you read the bible. |

It wasn't a debate. It was a judgmental display of ignorance. That goes without saying. The vast, vast majority of Christians in the US act nothing like Christ. For example, if one reads the Bible, one can't help but realize that Jesus was essentially a socialist, yet American Christians are utterly opposed to that very Christ-like behavior. As such, it's not at all surprising that most proselytizing is not in line with the proper example. |
