Nothing spectacular coming from Italy...

The "region governor" has been accused of going with Transex. and paying them... But that's not the point, really. It's his own business and his own life..

What is MAD and CRAZY about this is that some Carabinieri (policemen) allegedly filmed the lot and asked the Governor for some 1000s of Euros as to NOT reveal the scandal...

This country is going down in the drain day after day. YAY!

Cheers!

In Italy, is Berlusconi finally going to get nailed to a wall? I can't believe how he gets away with all his stuff.

Does anyone in Italy actually support him or think him credible?

@DKoor - are people keen to be part of the EU? I would imagine so, but not everyone is.
Is the ispute with Slovenia quite tense or low-key? Living here in Japan, I know that the numerous territorial disputes Japan has with EVERY SINGLE NEIGHBOUR can sometimes get quite heated (I believe gunshots were exchanged with SOUTH Korean patrol boats 5 or so years ago), particularly when they go through a bout of visiting WW2 shrines and making inflammatory right-wing comments, as seems to be required periodically.

British PM is rattled.Just been on tv to talk at us about Afghanistan.
Think the 75% against soldiers being there polls are starting to worry him.I think he's screwed either way,if we stay a lot more soldiers will be coming home in boxes. If we leave the taliban claim victory.

I rarely see someone openly saying that they WANT to be in the EU, it's more like they either don't, or they don't care about the issue. Me, I'mm all for it, though I don't expect anything special from it.

If I could be, I would. That visa would be superb - living in the UK, France, etc, etc, etc.

Didn't some Italian court just sentence a bunch of CIA types to prison for kidnapping a mulah in Italy and giving him to Egypt where he was tortured?

Yeah... but the Italian justice system is a joke so...
As for Berlusconi: well , the matter is complex, especially as seen from an outsider. It's the complete lack of any quality in our political class "men and women" that is outstanding.
Wink

Cheers!

My biggest interest in UK politics at the moment (other than the pointless wars we are trapped in) is to see who will have the b@lls to prosecute the politicians caught with their fingers in the till.

If a normal citizen had been fiddling their expenses in the manner seen to date then they would have been arrested and prosecuted.

Watching Jacqui Smith squirming with discomfort and embarrassment on the BBC's "Question time" last week as members of the public fired some corking questions at her about her expenses fiddling really made my day.

I also came away with a new found respect for Elfyn Llwyd MP who spoke real sense and wants Blair impeached for his conduct over the Iraq war almost as much as I do.

If the EU parliament (a body and idealogy that no true Englishman should ever embrace) vote Blair as the undemocratically elected "Fuhrer" of Europe then the little faith I have left in the world will die completely.

The English Channel exists for a bloody good reason.

I was dismayed, but not surprised, to note this week both Brown and Cameron revealing that they're glued to 'The X factor' every episode, being big fans. Says more about them and the state of this nation than I ever could.

The sooner more power is wielded by a proportionately represented European Parliament that curbs or preferably dismantles the archaic and self-serving institutions that have ruined this nation the better. So says this particular true Englishman.

Speaking of the X Factor me olde mucker I have been presented with a conumdrum.

Here's the scene. Saturday night in the pub. Lots of blokes avoiding the X Factor, wives at home, in a word 'tranquility.'

Enter the conundrum.

24 female Irish apprentice teachers visiting the area and who do not have access to a TV. (for some reason they are all drop dead gorgeous, must be that monkey writing Shakespeare again) and who would like to come to the pub if we'd only be so kind as to...you know what I'm going to say don't you...put X Factor on the TV. Now the TV'll be out because of the Wales New Zealand game so what to do?

A pub full of gorgeous women never ever did hurt trade not one bit. But the X Factor? I believe this may well be what is known as 'the slippery slope.'

Damn you Simon Cowell.
