I'm probably one of the silent majority in the UK that do not possess a soap-box and believe that my politics are between myself, my representatives and the ballot box.
Discussing the issues that concern me would soon descend into the usual UBI mess, which is why a flight sim forum is not the best forum for politics, to use an Americanism, period. |

Is this still happening? Complete waste of money! Would I be right in thinking that if these things ever float they will be the first carriers we ever built where the 'planes will cost more than the ships? Still we've spent over £80,000,000 in 'studies' to keep the defence procurement gravy train going. Good-oh! Meanwhile, in my home town, tonight something much more important will be taking place tonight; http://video.google.co.uk/vide...y+tar+barrels&hl=en# |

Its a shame we won't have any planes to put on these aircraft carriers, when we finally get them billions over budget.
Uk politicions are still moaning that they've been found out fiddling there expenses's. Thieves. Personally, i think politics in the uk is broken, you have a choice of lying crap, vs lying incompentance. choosing who to vote for at the next election, will be much the same as working out whether you are better off cutting off your leg, or your arm, with a spoon. U___1)Nazi Germany built all the best things and won teh war. B___2)The USA built all the best things and won teh war. I___3)Everyone else was cannon fodder |

News from the Antipodes - Our self serving politicians.
Mrs F_IV's Korean passport is due to expire soon. It is no longer permitted to mail your passport to the embassy in Canberra for renewal. One must attend in person. Fair enough, lets fly the 1000km or so and we'll make a day of it... My day off work is a Tuesday. A public holiday to celebrate the Melbourne Cup horse race. No other state in Australia shares this holiday. Or do they? A quick check on the internet reveals that our Canberra politicians have given themselves a holiday by pure "coincidence". They like to call it, Family and Community Day. More like, Desert Your Wife and Family and Fly to Melbourne to Get P*ssed at the Races Day. B'staads. *********************************************** "Nineteen years of age, eight years public education, three years military service. Intelligent, normally observant and answered all questions freely. He was arrogant and proud to be a pilot. Fellow prisoners in hospital consider him mentally unstable." |

The bill to dissolve the Canadian Gun Registry passed second reading yesterday and has now been sent to Committee for further review and possible amendment and then will go for final reading and approval by the Senate.
The police are strongly opposed to losing their Gun Registry. The proposed bill also wants all the records from the Registry destroyed. |

In smaller news, Australia and New Zealand have kicked out the Fijian diplomats in retaliation for Fiji's actions the day before (I think).
The dispute is part of what is now quite a long running friction between our govt's and Fiji's latest military ruler, General Bainimarama ( I think that's the right spelling) who is now into his 3rd or 4th year of his 'rule/dictatorship'. Anyone planning a holiday in Fiji, go to Samoa instead. That way you'll be helping an economy in need and undermining (albeit just a tiny bit) a regime that ousted a legally elected PM. I think that PM was the first after the previous military leader had stepped down, some years after taking over from another legally elected PM. Could be wrong on this as Fijian politics has never been my strongpoint. What do Poles, Czechs and Russian members make of the withdrawal of the missile defences? Actually, that's kind of American politics, isn't it? Doh! Self-ban! |

Politicians reject Kelly's plan to investigate misconduct complaints 05.11.09 MPs rejected a key part of Sir Christopher Kelly's clean-up of Parliament today by moving to curb investigations into their misconduct. The sleaze watchdog said yesterday that it should be easier for the public to trigger investigations into MPs without submitting a formal complaint. But the Commons standards and privileges committee ruled today that only in "exceptional circumstances" should the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner investigate allegations. The committee also cleared Tory frontbencher Alan Duncan of abusing his expenses to pay for a mortgage on his second home. The shadow prisons minister was not guilty of misusing taxpayers' money because he followed Commons rules, the committee said. The MPs - and Standards Commissioner John Lyon - were scathing of Labour MP John Mann for demanding an inquiry into Mr Duncan without submitting a formal complaint. The committee ruled: "Investigations of this kind cost public money. "We will agree to the Commissioner investigating allegations against members in the absence of a formal complaint only in exceptional circumstances." The MPs' verdict contrasts with Sir Christopher's report yesterday, which listed reforms to repair damage from the expenses scandal. His Committee on Standards in Public Life called for at least two lay members to join the standards committee and said: "The Standards Commissioner should be able to conduct investigations without waiting for a formal complaint." A minister became the first to publicly hit out at Sir Christopher's conclusions today. Work and Pensions Minister Helen Goodman said his reforms could hit prospective MPs with families. "We seem to have been looking at the expenses first and the consequences for who can and cannot afford to be a parliamentarian fall out of that," she told BBC Radio4's Today programme. Wives of MPs are to go to the High Court to fight a ban on being employed by their husbands. Many are furious that the Sir Christopher recommended banning MPs from employing relatives. About 20 met a lawyer from the Unite union last night. |
