I saw this last night with a few friends, half the theater clapped at the end. There were several hardcore trek fans in the audience, and they were pleased, great movie, good representations of the TOS characters, nice balance of humor and action. One of the guys was worried they'd water down Kirk's character, and was happy that they kept all the key traits.
This is by far the best Trek film. -------------- HARDWARE -------------- Mobo: XFX N780-ISH9 - CPU: 2.9ghz Core2Duo 7500 - VIDEO CARD: nVidia 9800GT/512 - RAM: 4 GB DDR2 6400 - HOTAS: Thrustmaster COUGAR - PEDALS: CH Pro Pedals USB - OTHER INPUT: Track IR4 - OS: Vista Home Premium |

Saw the film. I`m quite amazed it wasn`t politically corrected to death! While Picard`s Next generation was ok for a while, soon I was barfing whenever they had to have a 10 year discussion on whether something had the right to go for a pee or not. I started hating the pc-ness, so this was a refreshing change.
*WARNING. Possible Spoiler* However, does this mean we are now following a different Star Trek reality? Looks like it. |

Agree about the PC bit. Continuing with the spoiler bit, yes that was the beauty of the plot device they used. They can now do an alternate history "free" of certain aspects of the canon. __________________ There she goes There she goes again Racing through my brain And I just can't contain This feeling that remains |

Took my 8-year old to see it yesterday. He loved it nearly as much as I did!
******* Spoiler *********** If I had any complaints, I would say that the whole Kirk-Uhura-Spock thing was a bit overdone compared to how much (little?) the other characters were developed/explained. Apparently Chekov and Sulu just popped onto the bridge one day...and why was Scotty stationed on that planet again? While the action and FX were well done, I also thought they were a bit overdone at times as well. This is nothing new; it seems like many recent sci-fi films, some action scenes have so much going on and swich from spot to spot so fast it's difficult to get a good grasp on exactly what is supposed to be happening. This movie will be on the DVD Christmas list, though! |

If I remember correctly, Scotty was placed on the planet because of hurting the Admiral's prized beagle in a unfortunate transporter accident.

The guy who played McCoy seemed to go overboard at times, but i think that was the point
******* Spoiler *********** I also got a kick outta Sulu's scenes, especially the folding Katana. At the end of the movie Chris Pine's mannerisms as he sat in the captains chair were SPOT ON, it was almost like seeing a young Shatner again in TOS. -------------- HARDWARE -------------- Mobo: XFX N780-ISH9 - CPU: 2.9ghz Core2Duo 7500 - VIDEO CARD: nVidia 9800GT/512 - RAM: 4 GB DDR2 6400 - HOTAS: Thrustmaster COUGAR - PEDALS: CH Pro Pedals USB - OTHER INPUT: Track IR4 - OS: Vista Home Premium |

I liked it also. although i was hoping for a bigger fight at the end, like wrath of khan. great casting.

[b]*SPOILER ALERT*[b/] Yea. The bit with Kirk and the monster and just happening (across a vast expanse of arctic tundra) to bump into spock who saves him and then Scotty appearing as well, was just too coincidental. I just kept thinking there could`ve been a slightly less `freak-lucky` way. |

Just seen this movie tonight. I'm a sci-fi fan but not a mega treky, and I always prefered the original series to the more modern spinoffs. I haven't seen a trek film all the way through since the one with the whale (4?).
I really like the new look and feel they have going on. Action with a capital A, great cast, decent script and awesome effects. Some of the external views of the Enterprise were pure Treky porn! Deffo worth a watch and one of the best big budget movies I've seen in years. |

I was going to see the movie today but there was a bank error that screwed me over (3-4 weeks to resolve ffs), oh well maybe next week.
PS The guy who plays Bones was in LOTR as Eomer too. |

Also he was in The Chronicles of Rid****, and The Bourne Supremacy. He always played a bad-***, now he is Bones. |

Excellent film, in no small way because they paid their respects to retro sci-fi with the costumes and styling, and also managed to get together a cast with perfect chemistry, it's that extra touch that brings everything to life, like classic star wars. I must say I thought Simon Pegg as Scotty overacted like hell, not quite Jar Jar Binks, but I still thought he was blatantly 'the comic relief guy'.

I agree, and I think everyone, save Spock and Kirk, overacted. Not too bad, but a little. I think that was inevitable though as they had small parts of renowned characters that had to be established in so little time. "See, I am Chekov, I can not pronounce w." It worked though. I think I will go see Terminator tonight. I am not expecting much but with the lead being English, it will probably be good. We will see. |
