I'm not a trekky but that movie exceeded my expectations and not by just a little. Great movie if you grew up watching Star Trek on T.V. Much much better then that crap *** Wolverine.

Million dollar question.

Is it good enough to negate the effect of asking "do you want to see Star Trek" on a girl?

It might be...depends on the girl. If she was happy with going to see Transformers or something like that...then Star Trek won't be that far off from that.

Girls like it, but they don't love it. If they like handsome men or half naked green women they will atleast like some of it.

That's case there is nothing bad to say.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

What a great film.. from start to finish. Every loose end was wrapped up.. there were some surprises.. but no WTH moments at all... Good script, good acting, good story.. and I am a die hard Trekker... I am talking books, movies and all of them from TOS to Enterprise (which was the weakest in the series afaic.. but it still had it's place). This movie was so good.. on so many levels... If you are a Star Trek fan it is a must see.

The movie was GREAT though, I was very excited about it going in! and wasn't the slightest bit disappointed. Even my gf who has never seen anything Star Trek(and did not want to), enjoyed it thoroughly!
But I'd have to disagree just a little there. There were quite a few ridiculous plot holes! [Spoilers] Since when is it ok to just TOSS a Star Fleet officer out an escape pod and strand them on a random planet?? And after that he just happens to land on the same planet, and within 1 kilometer of old Spock(who shows up just in time)... come on Smile And then after a couple hours on the planet doing various things, they some how beam onto the enterprise which has been at warp the entire time... I could see why die hard trek fans had a harder time with this movie then the casual type(such as myself) Smile
I found the new "look" of everything ok! just not the continuity of it, why make the bridge and the halls considerably more futuristic, yet make the insides of the enterprise look like an oil refinery?? sleek and futuristic? or distillery! make up your mind.

The cast was awesome! couldnt have picked them better. Kirk was perfectly arrogant, Spock was great, Though Chekhov was a little "trying a bit to hard" with the accent!

You can definitely take your girl to this, all around great movie!

I was quite happy with it. No need to worry if you are an original series fan.

Frankly, I'm just glad to have Kirk back in the center seat.

I've had quite enough of milquetoast, PC, wimps like Picard.

Time to kick it and take names.

I'm already looking forward to the next one, I'm sure Klingons will be in it. Can't wait. Hopefully it will do well. As far as the ship being too clean in one section and full of pipes in the next, I found that O.K. as that is how most large ships are today, not a stretch to me.

Ask your girl if she likes Star Trek. Regardless of how she replies, "Yes" or "No", simply tell her that you are asking because her phasers are set to "stunning" Veryhappy

My dad and I may get out to see it as he was the one that got me interested enough to read the technical manuals they have out for Star Trek. I can appreciate it as things are consistent and they did a great job explaining how everything works, in theory or not.

Fun movie fact. The new guy who plays Checkov speaks both English and Russian natively so the accent, aside from the V becomes a W thing, is apparently not really put on too much.

Plus the V becomes a W thing is sort of classic to the character now ...and that one scene with him giving the announcement was hilarious Smile

I went to see it at the "IMAX" last night and I was not disappointed. I've been looking forward to this coming out for a loooonnng time and I'm not even a die hard fan.

I also agree it was nice to see a Captain that kicks butt instead of being all philosophical and logical (Picard has his place so no offence Trekkers)

Highly recommended to both Trek fans and newcomers to the franchise.

Brilliant!

I disagree... as for the plot... don't you see!! That was all a part of the whole "destiny" thing.. Who put Kirk there? Who rescued him? It was the same guy..? Not only that but the guy who ejected him there knew there was a Starfleet base nearby. It was not a "random" planet. You have to see the characterts themselves to [i]really really appreciate what was done in this film. This film does for Star Trek what Smallville does for Superman. And then some. That's why he had cold weather gear. gear. As for the "look" consider where they were... those were cooling tubes... for the dilithium core... and lastly don't forget... they would not have been able to beam aboard the Enterprise had it not been for that engineer guy.. Wink2 and the fact that the older guy already knew what was going on as far as the engineer guy's theories. Mr. Scott was always a genius.

To try to pigeon hole this into the established history will not work. Here is why.

George Kirk did not die in the original universe. From the moment Nero came back in time he changed everything that we previously knew.

FRAKKIN BRILLIANT!!!!

In the past films and even in the series.. they had something to show that history was NOT changed.. The launch WAS aborted

When I first got hired by my company back in the 80s (I do field service on printers.. back then it was copiers & copier duplicators) we had a dispatcher named Sonia who was Russian.. I was new to te territory.. and she went me on a call to 53 Vanderbilt Place in N.Y.C. Now this place is right next to Grand Central between 42nd & 43rd on the west side of the terminal... but she said "Wanderwilt Place" and e being new... spent @ an hour looking for Wanderwilt Place.. I stumbled upon Vanderbilt place.... totally by accident. Too Happy

Uhura should be curvy. My biggest complaint besides the excessive camera shake. Epilepsy and popcorn anyone? A bit overdone. Otherwise, great movie.

Even the scaly Ewok. Big Grin
