I had a look at the Fox News article on proposed net neutrality rules that U_S gave, and noticed a link to another article: So-Called 'Death Panel' Measure Survives in House Health Bill.

I invite everyone to read this and decide whether the headline is justified by the information revealed in the article, or is better described as an outright lie, as nothing remotely resembling a 'death panel' appears to be proposed. Of course if you believe that everything the Obama administration proposes is part of some hidden conspiracy to impose state socialism and/or an Islamic theocracy then I suppose you can also see evidence for 'death panels'. It looks a hell of a lot more like propaganda to me...

well gee andy that just can't be. After all Fox does report some tiny slivers of actual news along with their constant stream of baloney. Apparently this makes them believable to some poor unenlightened souls that the rest is real.

I mean they are big supporters of the "birthers" Do we really know if that obama birth certificate is really real or a cleverly made up forgery. Shady Too Happy

I'm not big into politics, so im not sure this fits into your discussion.

I'm always hearing stories about people escaping a horrible political regime in some god forsaken country, and those people sometimes end up in the US seeking political asylum.

Has anyone ever left the US, and received political asylum in another country?

It doesn't seem very likely, and looking at history, i wonder what country wouldn't fear invasion for doing so.

Bill the government for me took a big nose dive into the slime pool when it started doing "renditions" on innocent souls.

In fact "renditions" on the whole by the USA make me vomit.

BC, I don't understand your desire to have the government protect us. I understand the need for law and order, but to say that business has gotten so powerful that our government has to save us, well, I just don't see it.

I am not talking about the government looking over our shoulders into every aspect of our lives... C'mon man.. Roll Eyes

What I am talking about is exactly what happened when regulations are removed. Before there were regulations in the meat packing industry what did we have? Before there were regulations in the labor laws.. what did we have? When banking regulations were relaxed.. what did we get? That's what I am talking about when I saw we need government.. You can say what you want to .. but as I said.. when it comes to people's safety unless there are rules.. money is going to win out every single time.. Many of the safety regulations that we now have only came about after lawsuits.. like the Pinto gas tank.. the Corvair.. etc.. Case in point.. look at what happened in the credit card industry.. Do you remember when, if you were at the limit of a credit card.. you couldn't use it.. period.. it was denied.. Now thanks to changes in the rules over the last few decades the credit card companies will just give you the credit anyway.. and charge you a fee for going over.. and you don't even have the option to say.. "Please change this so that if I don't have the balance.. just deny me the use of the card..." Nope.. can't do that... The credit card companies set the rules.. and they do it so they can make money off you.. and that is just that one industry.. Say I cant afford the pricier medicine made by Phizer.. and I want to get the generic cheaper drug... in many cases... Nope.. cant do that... Why? Because the pharmaceutical lobby has bribed members of the legislative branch to make it illegal to do so..

That's what I am talking about when I say we need the government to protect us from us... When you make statements.. like the above, insinuating that the idea that I am espousing is somehow wrong or bad for the country.. that is exactly the kind of stuff that Fux news pounds into people's heads.. while corporate America laughs all the way to the bank at our expense..

So to show there concern this administration wants to take more money from the people who cant afford it cause they have no job.

How will the rights of the people be reinforced.. without government.. big corporations have the power they have because government gave it to them.. and all I am saying is that there has to be some balance.. as for your statement on the administration failing the country because of the health care issue.. as opposed to jobs.. You do realize that all these unemployed people have no health care right..? You do realize that many Americans are just one serious illness away from poverty right? The notion that the current administration wants to "take over our healthcare" and "take more money from the people who cant afford it cause they have no job" is just another lie promoted by this network that many have bought hook line & sinker.

"The left" ... Too Happy Personally I think it is alarming that the popularity of Fux continues to rise.. considering the type of drivel that comes from there..

So I guess you think that because she is doing charity work.. she should go to Wally world .. and get some Nikes... This post typifies the type of idiocy that is the bread and butter of Fux news..

Liberals had a complete heyday with Sarah Palin when she sported some new threads to campaign in. After the campaign, Palin returned the clothing to the RNC. From this point, the clothing reportedly sat in bags at RNC headquarters and I do not know the current status.

However, libbies howled and howled, and attacked Sarah from every angle about the clothes.
The hypocrisy of the left is disgusting.

There you go again.. seeing the world in Fuxvision.. The issue with Palin and the clothes was not that she sported new clothes.. but that the RNC bought the new clothes for her that she was sporting... and here these folks try to compare that.. with Mrs. O wearing some designer clothes that she bought with her own money... Angry Blue Guy That is so typical of the kind of just plain stupid BS that pours from Fux daily like a 24 hour old faithful. As for the permanent campaign mode.. well it is interesting that many on Fux refuse to even say "President Obama" .. it is just "Obama" .. kinda rem, inds me of Bob Grant calling Mayor Dinkins "the washroom attendent" throughout his tenure as mayor.. Perhaps much of my dislike of Fox comes from the fact that I am from NY.. and I know what Murdochian "journalism" looks like .. just take a look at that rag not fit for biedcages.. the NY Post.. it is basically Fox in print.

A classic example if ever I saw one.. How end of life counseling can be taken as "death panels" and that notion promoted nightly be Fux is exactly the kind of inflammatory irresponsible, fear mongering that has now become their trademark.. and the really obscene part is .. much of the truth or real news that they may report gets lost behind all the posturing and "entertainment" of guys like Beck et al.. AS I stated.. My issue with this network is not that they have a different view about some issues.. but that they constantly.. CONSTANTLY just slam the current administration at every single turn.. and in many cases it is just not justified.. Yet while much of the chicanery of the previous administration was going on.. they were silent.. and there were many things that were not done right in the previous administration. Also.. while it is true that MSNBC is almost just as bad at the other end of the spectrum.. they get nowhere near as bad as Fox ...

As I have stated .. I am conservative in @80% of my views.. and some of what Fox promotes I do agree with.. but their methods are what leave me cold and shaking my head..

Honestly, while those rules *sound* good, it's the unintended consequences of regulation that may not be actually needed that sometimes litter our history. Maybe NN has it's place, as long as it is implemented wisely and with common sense, but those two words are often not associated with government.

Urufu, sometimes you're pretty disgusting. Disagree with the man, but don't disrespect him. Angry Blue Guy

First, let me apologize about McCain and the email. Firstly, I was not aware of that being the reason he did not send email because I have heard several times that used as an example of his lack of technological knowledge and knew no better. Now when I hear such things I ill make effort to correct it. Secondly, though made out of ignorance, my comment was not intended to be an insult in the first place, I meant that sincerely as a possible excuse for his otherwise obvious collusion with the telcos to screw the people.

As for the argument that net neutrality is regulation for a problem that does not exist, I beg to differ as the problem is very much here. Comcast was caught red handed interfering with torrent traffic. Now the way they did htis is they sent your pc a packet of info that FOOLED your pc into thinking the pc that was connected to you doing the transfer of files (legit or otherwise and there are plenty of legit uses of bittorent) ws asking to be disconnected. They impersonated the other pc and effectively blocked bittorent traffic. They lied and lied about doing this until it was proven beyond doubt they were indeed doing it and the FCC stepped in and dinged them. And this is not an isolated incident, it's just the one that got the most press.

..... It's actually very old news, Uther. This has gone on for decades in the inner cities. People learned to call the fire department because: (a) they were free; (b) they were normally very much faster in response time; (c) ambulance service legally had to be part of the response package.

Poor people are not stupid people by any means.

Do you have a source for the above BC? Neither myself, who takes a few pills a day to treat some nerve and a thyroid disorder or my parents, who each take about 45 pills a day, have ever had a problem getting generic versions of any drug if they are available.

No one is forced to have a credit card and those that can't manage the credit cards they do have are free to cut them up and never use them again. The issuer sets the rules because it's THEIR credit you are using. Why shouldn't they be able to set the rules? The card holder agreed to the rules (including the rule that said they could change the rules) when they signed up.

"Fixing" the above is EXACTLY what I'm afraid of when it comes to the government "protecting" the consumer b/c it sets a dangerous precedent. In this case, it's really a matter of protecting the consumer from themselves, not the credit card companies and I think that is just ridiculous. REAL protection from REAL injustices are fine but huge sweeping regulations to "protect" people from their own stupidity are NOT needed.

Just for the record, I have over $50k in credit card debt but I see no need, nor would I accept, a goverment "fix" for my situation. I got myself into it and it's my responsibility to get myself out.

I believe the OP's point is that it would be much more productive to put those people to work so they will have health insurance rather than create a huge government organization to govern health care for them. While I don't follow politics very closely it appears to me that Obama's administration has done practically nothing aside from debate health care. While I did not vote for him, I did hope that there would be some real change where it was most needed. More specifically, addressing the failures in market regulation that led to our current situation in the first place. I have been sorely disappointed.

One of the latest examples of Gubmint dabbling created one of the largest reasons for this entire mess:

"The federal government’s push to make housing more affordable played a huge part in pushing the U.S. financial system to the brink of disaster last year. That’s the conclusion of a report by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), ranking member on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The report, released in July, places the blame squarely on Federal Reserve policy and actions that led to relaxed lending standards, lower down payments, more subprime lending, and people getting home loans they couldn’t pay back."

I notice people trying to use local Fire Departments as some kind of lame bridge to government run healthcare.

Sorry, no sale.

Fire Departments are locally trained, run and funded by local taxpayers. Maybe some Kalifornian and NY FD's are on fed government life support, but not in my town. The STATE/CITY provides these services, not the fed.

None, but remember it's a GOVERNMENT cure, it's just a powergrab and a bailout for big cancer. Think of all the cancer jobs that would be lost, we can't hurt the economy any more than it already is....

Is there an established opinion from commentators on Fox, about the wisdom of government financing and overall control of Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, FBI, Dept of Homeland Security? Has anyone ever suggested that these could be better run along City/State lines?

No, they could only be better run if they were run by me and I'm pretty sure that everyone at Fox is aware of that fact.
