Yeah, the title says it all. It's not enough that they are growing for the first time in a long time, but 250 years!! I hate to impose such a 'chill' upon global warming extremists/alarmists and their community of political con-jobbers. Their fear mongering, which has school children world wide needing counseling all over the world due to the indoctrination they have received at the hands of evil liars and deceivers, has got to stop. Yes, I read only the other day that millions of poor little kids are now scared to death about all the lies and hype crammed down their innocent throats. An unprovable theory taught as fact but the cat is getting out of the bag of late.
The article I link to below is founded on findings of the highly reliable ( and yes, very scientific ) US Geological survey, which is a US government funded body. It's data is gathered by scientists and cannot be refuted or denied. Here's the story: http://www.dailytech.com/Alask...ars/article13215.htm |

Please pleeeease go and get a better grounding in Geology and Meteorology Mortoma. There are glaciers growing in Siberia for Pete's sake lol, just not many of them. It's all about macro versus micro climates. Also long term trends are far easier to predict than short term yearly trends. One cold summer, wow hahah. ------------------------------------------------------------ "Of all lovers perhaps none is more unrequited than a liberal humanist. History makes fun of him. Yeah wow, because it's apparently the coldest one in 250 years. Now I'm no climatologist, but neither are you. But unlike you, I never act like an expert on everything. I think it's your age group possibly. I also thought I knew everything when young. Even in the article they say one summer does not make a trend and that's true, but it is significant that it's apparently the coldest summer in 250 years. That part you conveniently ignore. But the scientists are not ignoring anything as of yet, unlike armchair experts like you. They wisely decide instead to wait before proclaiming the earth is warming. At least the scientists that are not paid off by the politicians to lie and proclaim 'prove' where there is none. |

You don't see me posting this stuff like an armchair expert do you? I just like pointing out flawed arguments. I may be a smartass but I don't try to be an expert. ------------------------------------------------------------ "Of all lovers perhaps none is more unrequited than a liberal humanist. Yeah, the title says it all. Thats a pretty isolated event to base your comments on. Maybe you should come back when the title says 'Glaciers all over the world have been growing for the last 10 years' Cheers |

Hell Mortoma, I'm not particularly bothered about your opinion on Global Warming. What I'm bothered by is lazy attempts to question it, you can do way better than that dude. Try approaching it from a less political angle than you do and you may find yourself having better more balanced arguments to question the subject, it's when your not actively pursuing facts to fit your own opinion that you can find some wonderful revelations.
It is clear that you are interested in the subject matter, science does need people who question. People who look for other bits of the puzzle, you seem to take a fair bit of time out of your day to read some of this stuff. Why not go out and buy a textbook on Meteorology, or Climatology? Gain a real understanding on the subject and then your in a position to question and understand fully all of the latest journals. I don't have a real understanding of the subject anymore, I only had a bit in the first place and that was a few years ago. I just knew enough to point what I did out. Also, why don't you go and try looking for observed reasons as to why this summer has been cooler. I'm not going to link you to the journals as I think you should do it. That's all I'm going to say because I'm guessing this threads going to turn in to a continual stream of two sides saying "w00t look at this one source I dug up, SO THERE!!!!!" ------------------------------------------------------------ "Of all lovers perhaps none is more unrequited than a liberal humanist. You are a likable dude in some ways and not stupid in the least Aimail101, but you and I are quite of the argumentative persuasion. Being at loggerheads will not profit, nor will we likely chage each others mind on the subject. So perhaps it's best to chill on this for a while. I have no more time to argue about this at the moment, must go to bed. Go out and scare some school children tomorrow, with dire warnings of future flooding of coastal cites. You'll feel better and be better equipped to take me on again. Just kidding really!!

@ AIMail and Mortama:
It's hilarious that you guys are at each others throats, considering your avatars! We have Anti-Che vs. Anti-Cheney, pointing fingers! Seriously, though: All this talk about scaring children with lies and deceit sounds awfully subjective. No one in their right mind can honestly deny the effects of global warming; it's real. However, many either minimize or exaggerate the consequences of it. One side says "Oh, it's all make-believe" while the other says "Oh, my god! The earth will die!". The late George Carlin said it best, and I'm just paraphrasing here: The Earth has been through meteoric cataclysms and several periods of armegeddon over billions of years. But we think that a few plastic bottles and engine dust is going to destroy the earth forever?! No matter what we do to it, over a period of time, Earth will just recycle and cleanse itself. The earth ain't going anywhere....WE are! I think that's all it boils down to. We never cared about what was happening to the earth until it became apparent that our own existence might be at stake. We're just trying to save our own backsides, that's all... ------------------------------ "It breaks my heart, but I am almost certain that raaaid will get the Nobel Prize in physics before we get the Avenger in PF." -- Zeus-cat |

mortoma, you really need to educate yourself on this issue. Actual scientific research is not published in web articles. If you're as interested in the subject as you claim, attend a few classes at your local university rather relying upon politically and corporately motivated people to interpret data for you.
You seem very cloudy on some basic points, such as the fact that nobody in the scientific community has called it "global warming" for many, many years--that is born of decades old science. The simple fact of the matter is that the processes at play will actually make parts of the planet much colder. Furthermore, a shift in weather patterns over the course of one year (or even ten) does not really indicate anything. Climate is a long term process. I suppose I'll leave with a question. CO2 is a greenhouse gas. This is not conjecture and, if you'd like, you can even verify this on your own without using any data gathered by dirty liberal marxists ( There's also no debate that millions of tons of it is released into our atmosphere and that it has an atmospheric halflife that is not insignificant. Why exactly is it that some of you seem to think that it magically transforms into some benign substance when pumped into a closed circuit system (I.E., our ecosystem) on an industrial scale, particularly when more is pumped into the system than is filtered out? So great. A study has revealed that there was an a weather abnormality in a very small area of the planet for a geologically insignificant period of time. Clearly this means that anthropogenic climate change is a myth, and that there's nothing to worry about. Right? Because that's the argument that you seem to present every time the subject is discussed. |

Here you go, mortoma:
http://www.ted.com/talks/james...xtreme_ice_loss.html Not exactly exhaustively scientific, but rather than focusing on the 5% of the topic that is supported by your political views, why not explain the 95% that is not? Polar and alpine ice IS retreating, yet your focus is on an extremely anomalous area in which that does not apply. That's not scientific--it's dogmatic. |

If they have been shrinking for the past 250 years, what in the world were we as humanity doing back then to cause global warming? Nothing comes to mind.
Scientists give mankind way too much credit when they say that we can do things that will globally effect our climate. It's a bunch of nonsense really. -PC Performance Aficionado and proud forum member since 2001 |
