Yep, maybe an older show though:

These guys are the best concert I have ever seen, seen them twice. 2112 in Portland OR in 1980 I think, and Permanant waves in Fresno Ca, sometime in the early 80s. They play the songs almost exactly like it is on the album, and not so loud your ears ring after the show.

Damn straight. His bass playing continues to inspire me. I've been listening to the new live album quite a bit lately, excellent throughout.

It was a really funny show. If you missed it, they usually repeat it throughout the next day, so it will be on this evening, and then most likely on the Comedy Central website as well.

Awesome new album. Best one since 'Power Windows', I think. It's a good mix of old and new styles. Great lyrics too - they still have the knack for getting into social issues. I've been a fan since 'Signals.'

A new colleague of mine knows Alex Lifeson quite well - his mom and Alex's mom are friends. He has a picture of himself being held by Alex when he was little, and spent lots of time at their studio listening to them work.

That was seriously funny. There are some serious Rush nerds working on the Report.

Interrupting the drum solos on "Tom Sawyer" was priceless.

Yeah, and they didnt stop because they are into thier song and it has a structure that can't be interupted so easily, so they keep on going.

I was a Rush nerd for a long time. I had a friend who could play temples of syrinx on the drums, very good, and I can play it on the guitar. It was alot of fun for us when our band would take a break at a gig and us two would just go at it with some of that song.
Rush is a band we could only play if it was an instrumental, forget trying to sing like Geddy Lee.

I'm a big time Rush geek, but not so much that my world revolves around them (I know a few like that!). They are certainly my favorite band, current and all time. I thought the new album was fantastic. Sadly, I didn't get a chance to see them when they came around in May.

We thought about covering a Rush song in my current band, with YYZ and Finding My Way as possible contenders. About 13 years ago I was in a band that covered La Villa Strangiato, which is a crazy song to get right. We played it live once, and thankfully we didn't screw it up. It went over real well with the crowd. I even had a keyboard for the "dream section" guitar solo. I think the hardest part of the song for me was the bass solo. I couldn't get it just right, so I improvised most of it.

Thats some good stuff, takes alot of time to get those songs down.
A good one to learn is Jacobs ladder, its doable, but one time I tried to learn Spirit of Radio and it was impossible for me to get that opening riff just right. I don't know how many rush songs I know on the guitar.

We learned Jacob’s Ladder as well, complete with the keyboard, but never played it live. That was a fun song to play. We tried Freewill at one point, and we did Overture and Temples of Syrinx from 2112 as well. That was all with the band that did La Villa.

I’m thinking about asking to cover a Rush song for our next gig, whenever that may be.
