Is this getting out of hand, or what? This is similar to the earlier topic posted by erco415 about the cub scout getting railroaded by their school's 'zero tolerance policy'. What next, any kid being seen pointing and shaking their finger towards another kid will be booted out of school for assault?
Des Moines school suspends girl over empty gun shells I have a friend who lost his job as a history teacher with the Vallejo, Ca school district back in the 1990's because of this type of policy. He had a single rifle cartridge in one of those Israeli paratrooper bags. He used this bag for when he went to the range, and also used it to carry his school stuff for work. Anyway, he told me that there was a single cartridge that he forgot was in the loops in the inside cover of the flap on the bag, and a teacher saw it as she was walking by. The teacher reported seeing the cartridge, and a week later he got his walking papers. They lost a good teacher because he would have the class reenact historical events to make learning interesting, instead of droning on about the typical unknown names, dates and events that usually mean nothing to most kids. |

This policy is like the Three Strikes policy I mention in my thread on why California is broke. When you make rules and policies that don't allow people to use judgement in handling situations you get stupid outcomes like this. How can anyone believe spent shotgun shells dangerous?

I have a 76mm shell casing in my classroom, a .50 cal casing, and had a 7.62mm round with the powder poured out (primer intact - I took it back home.)

I....I'm speechless.....
And infuriated. If anything like this happens to my kids, there WILL be hell to pay at the school board. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flying online as NORAD_Shinjiro |

Those people are so damned stupid it makes me sick.
It reminds me of when I was in the seventh grade and was showing a friend of mine a penny that I had laid on a rail-road track on the way to school and it was smashed flat about an inch and a half wide and paper thin. It had been reduced to a flat smooth featerless disk of copper. My teacher saw it and sent me to the principal's office accused of de-facing government property. The principal looked at the smashed penny, just laughed and sent me back to class. |

..... IMHO, this is what we get when we remove common standards, common sense, and administrative discretion from the public arena and attempt to replace them with reams upon reams of ever more complicated rules and regulations. BLUTARSKI |

Agreed, remember, just cause I may defend some bureaucratic actions from what I consider to be false accusation, doesn't mean that in reality I wouldn't like to watch the whole bureaucracy burn. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flying online as NORAD_Shinjiro |
