Steam can be good, but you never really own the game do you?
I bought Red Orchestra from Steam, and after I reinstalled Windoze, it's gone forever, right?

No you still own it on Steam. You can just re-download it, or you could use the backup feature in Steam to make a disk. Steams been brilliant for me! Scratch a disk and you can just make a new one.
