Ps Did you remember this "anniversary" yourself or did someone at GR.net remind you? Just curious...hehe

I'll echo those sentiments.

Ever since the first GR went into my xbox, I've been hooked. From a minor diversion to the point where Mrs Bluefox had to sit me down and read the riot act - 4 am every night with a 7:00 am get up for work for a year was a bit much, I have to admit.

What a game. Actually more. I got broadband to get live so I could play it on line. What a rush the first time you played against humans!

I got a flat screen so I could make it bigger, I got a 360 to make it look better and get ready for GRAW. I joined a clan to make it more enjoyable and get on with like minded people.

Mrs Bluefox likes to take the piss sometimes and tell people I'm a gamer. At my age! I just smile because I know I'm not. I'm a GR player - other games are just a diversion for amusement and get an hour or two a month. GR is a way of life.

Congratulations also from my side! Smile

It's funny because two days ago I've been playing that game again - testing some visuals enhancements. Smile

Today I woke up and made some shoes with extended soles for a strange North Korean midget with an attitude. I made one sole shorter than the other one, thought it would be funny at the time. Apparently it made him angry and he invaded South Korea. Oh well.

For lunch I was talking to George Bush about my trip to New Zealand and how i noticed a bad chemical spell in the toilets over there. I think he misundestood me because later that day he was at the UN looking for sanctions against New Zeland because of hidden chemical weapons. A case of chinese whispers if you ask me.

Anyway on to dinner time. Decided to grab a bite to eat with my old friend Chavez. Colorful guy. I bet him that he couldn't finish a 64oz steak. Well he took the bet up and credit were credit is due. He managed to eat 90% of it before he had the heartattack. Next thing I know China, Russia and America are invading Venezuela in the interests of World stability.

That night I didnt notice my girlfriend had gotten her hair done. It really was like World War III.

Weird but hey worth a shot.

If I have my time zones right, that's only a couple of hours away now.

Well, here's what I did today - I reminisced about a few of the missions I've joined the Ghost's on.

It started late in 2001 (real world time heh), that was when I first led the Ghost's - although at that time I sometimes wondered who was leading who, as these guys knew how to handle themselves - if only our more recent recruits showed the same common sense under fire! Anyway, that was a heck of a mission - capture some guy called Papashvili. Found him hanging about in some caves, we soon had him under control though. It was on the very next mission that we first got our hands on the OICW, what fun we had with that baby. If I remember correctly that was out first night sortie too - recovering a downed pilot. Those were the first of hundreds of missions, but the first 15 eventually led us to moscow - that was cold - too cold.

After that we headed for a warmer climate - desert missions mostly - starting with a beach landing. That was fun, fighting our way up the slopes and then trying to take the radio tower. I think it was after that mission things got a bit more civil around the area - probably something to do with our new addition - Lindy Cohen. Her first mission with us was to rescue a group of workers in a refinery - some nasty CQB in there. We did 6 more missions in desert camo before heading of for some Island fun.

The first mission was on a plantation, man those farmers knew how to shoot though. That campaign ended up in a hilly area, where we had to find Priego, that was a heck of a mission.

If I count right, that was 31 missions we were sent on back in the day - officially. After that we took on a shed load of unofficial missions. There was rumour of uncle sam getting back to us with another official call up in April 2005, but it was pulled at the last minute. The guys were not amused. Luckily for us, word was out and we had work offers coming out of our boots.

We went to all sorts of places, we were even sending Postcards From Peru at one point - although those missions were no holiday. Then it was the opposite extreme, some of the guys even got Frostbite. We were even getting supplied with custom gear, and weapons - it was hard to keep up with it all. In mid 2005 there was word of a whole new era for Ghost Recon, we got pumped about that, we stayed cool though, sat back and had some cola, Classic GR cola, we all Grin'd about that - especially when we heard "Warfighter" being banded about.

In Aug 2005 we went for some Special Detachment duties, that was one of many co-operative ventures we undertook, they were BAD sometimes, but always stealthy, Stealth Recon, that's what we called some of them. We met a tonne of guys on those missions, great days - but No Easy Days.

Early in 2006 we kept waiting for a new batch of missions orders to come in, Advanced Warfighter missions, as usual there were delays, but eventually we were back in action. New places to go, new people to uhm, meet. That was a couple of years ago now, I remember when we started getting all the new gear, some of the guys were going all hardcore on us and ripping off all the new tech the boffins had come up with - cross comm my a**. It had it's uses though, saved my bacon a few times.

Mid 2007 another batch of AW missions came down from command, more of the same - easy pickings for us now. After we cleaned those up a lot of the guys went back to take on some older, outstanding contracts, and then before we knew it we were getting more custom contractor work. There's a whole group of guys away right now on a specialist sniper campaign right now. That's what's great about the Ghosts, the custom jobs just keep coming in, and every one is better than the last.

work to do.

ALL IN A DAY'S Work

History:
Tbilisi, is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Mtkvari (Kura) River. Tbilisi is sometimes called Tiflis (or Tifflis), which is its Medieval non-native name. The city covers an area of 726 km² (280.3 square miles) and has 1,093,000 inhabitants.
Founded in the 5th century AD by Vakhtang Gorgasali, the Georgian King of Kartli (Iberia), and made into a capital in the 6th century, Tbilisi is a significant industrial, social, and cultural center. The city is also emerging as an important transit route for global energy and trade projects. Located strategically at the crossroads between Europe and Asia and lying along the historic Silk Road routes, Tbilisi has often been the point of contention between various rivaling powers and empires. The history of the city can be seen by its architecture, where the Haussmannized Rustaveli avenue and downtown are blended with the narrower streets of the medieval Narikala district.
The demographics of the city is diverse and historically it has been home to peoples from different cultures, religions and ethnicities. Despite being overwhelmingly Orthodox Christian, Tbilisi is one of the few places in the world where a synagogue and a mosque are located next to each other, in the ancient Bath district several hundred meters from the Metekhi Church. In recent times, Tbilisi has become known for the peaceful Rose Revolution, which took place around Freedom Square and nearby locations after the contested parliamentary elections of 2003 led to the resignation of the Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze.

Intel:
Militants have taken control of Freedom Square and a number of hostages in an attempt to force the government to stop a number of trade projects from continuing. They also have made requests that global power routed via Tbilisi be prevented. The government believes this is an attempt to create power shortages in global areas allowing other militants to move into these areas and commence operations to take control on a global scale undetected.

Orders:
Move into and around the area of Freedom Square gather Intel and await further instructions. You have a small squad to assist you 3 men.

Stage one of Operation Freedom Square:
After a short trip in a troop transport vehicle we arrive in the outer areas of Freedom square we complete some last minute equipment checks and commence our stealth Intel gathering exercise. Upon moving towards the Square we note taller buildings that need to cleared before we can get close enough to gather the Intel needed. I order 2 men into the first building and order them to clear it to the top level whilst we wait and keep an eye on the lower area so the militants don’t sneak up behind them. Once the building is cleared and we receive the all cleared Captain Signal I order the remaining troop to remain and hold the lower position so I can join the team at the higher position.
Once I reach the forward scouts at the top of the building we can clearly see a large group of hostages located in the far south east corner of the Square with 7 militants surrounding them with AK47’s . We note a number of other positions other militants could hiding so i decided to move south to a new position to gather further Intel.
We move back down and out of the building and head directly south of the south east position, as we are moving along we start to hear voices and our patrol stops to listen and await my instructions. Using hand signals I order 1 scout left and one scout right of the position the voices are coming from. Within several minutes I receive the hand signal from my scouts “Intel gathered” I order them to fall back on me so we can move to a safe distance to discuss the Intel. My scouts report the building located to the south seems to be in control by the militants and seems to be there operation head quarters. They counted 9 men in the building and some radio equipment and maps on a desk inside.
So now we have locate the hostages surrounded by 7 militants with AK47’s the operation head quarters and a further 9 militants with communications established. A total of 16 militants so far.
I decided we should back track and move around towards the south west area of the square to gather Intel from a different strategic point.
Upon reaching the south west point we look for further militants in the buildings both lower and upper areas of the square also covering areas we had already cleared. We noted 2 snipers one on the top of the command centre they are occupying and one above the hostages. No other militants could be observed.
I give the orders to my team to fall back to a safe area so Intel could be reported back.
Once reaching our safe area we radio in the Intel and await further instructions.

New Orders received:
Captain your orders are to move your men into position and take out the militants and save the hostages. We are giving you air support.

I then give orders to my troops, 2 men are to move to the rear of the southeast corner and await the signal to smoke the hostage area and move in to take out the 7 militants surrounding them. I then order my other troop to move close to the building established as their operations centre and ready himself to throw grenades into the building via the windows. I note to all my team this is the signal for the 2 smoker men to throw smoke and move in. Air support is ordered to take out sniper one covering the hostages from the south east building whilst the third troop and I clear the operations center and the sniper from its roof top. I order the 2 smoker troops to continue smoking the area of the hostages until they get all clear from us on top of the operations centre.
I then give the orders to move into position and commence Operation save and recover Hostages. Once all men are in position and Air support has maneuvered into position undetected I give the order to commence.
My grenadier throws grenade 1 2 and 3 into the building and Air Support leaps into action along with the smokers. The firefight in the south east corner went off like clock work with surprise being the key. The operation centre, including the sniper on the roof top have been cleared. The radio report from Air Support has cleared the sniper target on the South East building top. I then give the all clear signal to my men and thank Air Support. I then order all troops to regroup with the hostages.

New orders arrive:
Captain move your men and hostages to the rally point for extraction. Job we done soldiers. I respond with, All in a day’s work Sir
We move to the extraction point and load all hostages into awaiting troop carriers.
Operation Completed Time for a beer.

Today I flew back to my favorite place to be.... Montana! I wanted to hit the streams for some fly fishing.

Everything started out great. Weather was perfect, conditions were great on the water, and you can't beat the scenery. Anyways, after I had caught my third 32" rainbow trout of the day I look across the stream and there is a grizzly bear eyeing my fish. He starts crossing the stream and I head for the nearest tree. In about .06 seconds I had finally made it to the top of the tree. The bear came to the base of the tree and started shacking the tree as hard as he could to knock me out of it, but I clung on for dear life. After a bit the bear went back off into the woods. I stayed up in the tree for awhile just to be sure he was gone, and right as I was making my way down the tree the grizzly emerges from the trees. This time he brought a friend with him. The two grizzly bears start shaking the tree with all their might and I'm finding myself getting sea sick. Finally the two relent and again head off back into the trees. This time a got down from the tree as fast as I could and headed straight for the car. I look behind me at the tree line and once again I see the bears emerge but this time they brought along a beaver....
